Thank you so much for such a useful video! :)
br
brFrom a physics perspective, it's so funny how one can squeeze standing waves and change their resonant frequencies
br
brAs a piano and mandolin player, I have to admit that the logic behind these instruments is also kind of mind-twisting It's like you're using binary codes to reach the correct pitch
br
brSo funny! Comment from : Juansher Jejelava |

Back when it wasn't unusual to find a record store with a deep classical catalog, I found a CD with some recorder music by JS Bach I thought, "Bach wrote music for those pieces of crap we had in the second grade?" No, Bach wrote music for instruments that were crafted as carefully as a violin or an oboe Comment from : JayTemple |
|

Hi Sarah, Im also a beginner and this is the first time that I was able to appreciate playing it My recorder is so old dating back 1990's Yamaha brand soprano type, I remember playing it 4 or 5 times merely practicing the fingering of notes but I,m really so disappointed simply because there was nobody guiding me And so this recorder was forgotten and abandoned for a long time After watching you for the first time I was surprised to know that this little thing is not that hard to play and could mean a lot of fun So I ransacked my old luggage and found my recorder still in good shape And so I started playing together with you Thank you Sarah for this amazing video Comment from : jamieg722 |

Precious teacher Sarah, my experience with the recorder is a very unhappy one! When I went into pension, I started studying recorder by myself at the age 71 years old, now I am 82 years old Now about 11 Years I have beenstudying very very hard on recorder but the result is a very very bad one?! Nobody could help me Here where I live nobody plays recorder I asked so many times breath instrument players to help me, they told me to play with the diaphragm but I never could understand it! So many times, desperate I wanted to destroy all my recorders but I couldn't because I had worked so very hard and I had lost so much of time A year ago I started to listen to Your lessons and my play is very much better now but it is very difficult for me to forget the old way I was used to and it always hindered me ThankYou for Your precious lessons Comment from : adrian qereshniku |

Oh gosh! I was playing it wrong this whole time like a flute I was wondering why the last hole is so far and that too made on the right, how I am going to reach that with the pinky finger of my left hand Now, I know to place the left hand above the right hand And now my whole world of note recognition is different But, I am able to play the folk song you taught at the end of this video Thanks for such a helpful and easy-to-learn and practice tutorial for recorder musical instrument Also, I brought a new Yamaha one from amazon today and I am playing it since morning Hopefully, I will record the recorder soon in my songs in the future Comment from : Chanakya Shukla |
|
Would painting (or stickers, decoration generally) a plastic recorder change its sound? Assuming I mask off the holes of course Comment from : Alex McD |
|
Hi Sarah ! I'm starting with a Yamaha YRS-24B bec flute (flute à bec) Recorder ? what a silly namebrAfter having seen couple of videos of yours, I wonder why you haven't addressed the fact that some flutes (mine at least) don't have the holes aligned with the bec opening ! The hole row is tilted about 40-45° clockwise ! Why is that ? Comment from : Benoit Gérin-Lajoie |
|

After randomly coming across your channel, I was inspired to give the recorder a go I have no previous musical experience, but after a couple of weeks with a Yamaha Ecodear alto and a copy of The New Recorder Tutor by Stephen F Goodyear (book 3) which I snagged on ebay for a couple of quid, I can now play a handful of tunes and I've picked up the basics of reading music I've found the method book really easy to work through, though the tunes in it are kinda dull, but hey ho, they got me started Comment from : Cockleshell Zero |
|

I am now 36 years old and started to play the (alto) recorder just today I come from 23 years of extreme metal and wanted to broaden my musical horizon and I think the recorder is really awesome Your videos are great, you explain very good, you're reassuring, I like your notion of "just fiddle around, learn your instrument" That's what I tell my guitar students But damn, that song for a first one is hard :D I nearly passed out after the first try Comment from : Grimheart |
