I was forced to job hop as the companies I worked in would not promote me or teach me anything new after staying there for longIf the first time I was naive the second time I got burnt badly and now my idea is that loyalty is good till you do not get promoted after 2 years and you end up staying there sad and frustratedAfter 18-2 years is promotion or change job Comment from : Roberto Chericoni |
people often job hop to level up in their career, and most people don't job hop to make an extra $5000, the spread is significantly larger Comment from : jdbdidoek |

why not? Do companies think twice before firing or layoff people? Comment from : Melvis Vaz |
It’s not job hopping if your leveling up the move each time you leave Too many lateral moves gives potential employers the idea your indecisive 2040 increase with valued skill set is key to strategy Options are: Management fast-track to corporate Executive or get minimum increases as IC for 40 yrs Most ppl are in the second category and will become stagnant in career with budget cuts and viewed as non-value added employee Make all the money 💰 now how you can & while you can before you become irrelevant Loyalty is a myth Perception is your reality Jobs are like relationships now in which both parties need unified long-term vision on the table before marriage is on the table Bottom-line : Companies will compensate you on how they see you period Comment from : Eddie Johnson |

My best friends dad was just layed off after being with the same company for 28 years They said his role was "closed" and he needed to leave by the end of the week eye opening Learning not to be loyal to companies as they are not loyal to you Comment from : Phoenix |
I don't agree! It’s a real life of out there not a utopia! My company left the market after the war in my country started; so I had find a new job in a new country The job before that was very controversial project which was regulated by law and eventually closed So loved both positions, but but had to “job hopping “ a bit Comment from : Nataliya Fedevych |

If you are a professional job hopper, maybe, just maybe some of those jobs never existed ? Comment from : Jon Doe |
The thing is, most employees will not get promoted 2, 3, 4 or 5 times by working at one company You'll get lucky to get promoted once or twice in a 5 to 10 year spand at that company Most of us don't want to wait 5-10 years to see a major hourly or salary increase! Comment from : Manny Cadosa |
I wish I could send you my resume smh 🤦🏾♀️ Comment from : Ruby Joan |
I work in non profit and job hopping is necessary to move up and to negotiate higher salary There is no loyalty anymore Comment from : beth hawkins |
Many reasons I feel like would be toxic work environment No one wants to be treated like crap for any amount of money Im one of those people I left a job paying $2300hr 12 hours a day to working for a job paying $2000hr 8 hours a day Comment from : Kelin Johnson |
You keep saying "focus on your career" but the goal of every career is to make money If hopping jobs instead of waiting 8 years for an internal promotion makes you more money you should Comment from : # |
This is why I think HR personnel don’t get respected as smart individuals All they do is a major in the minor How about focusing on who is the most qualified or have the desired skill sets and not trying to bring subjective intuition as to why a person has changed jobs Like I hate inviting HR persons to my interviews because the thing they focus on are so stupid smh Comment from : Tahjmahal |
sounds like "stay in a bad marriage so society won't judge you" Comment from : Sukhpreet Kaur |
I’ve been with my current company for almost 10 years and just got a $15k raise this year I am finishing my degree this year (which they helped pay for) and I am planning to shift careers to one that is in the same industry but in a different area, but a lot of the advanced specialization and skills that I have learned here will be directly transferable brbrIf I had been job hopping for the last decade I wouldn’t be in the position I am now to make intentional, calculated moves into a more fulfilling career that’s far better suited to my passions and aligned with my values As cringy as people think it is for people to say this- I am genuinely grateful for opportunities this job and company have given me, but none of it would have been possible if I were jumping around to grab a few more bucks at every chance Comment from : Amy |
It depends if the other expenses like relocation, seeing the house will compensate Comment from : Saco Cheio |
After 6 years without any promotion I think that i have to change organisation Comment from : Raven ! |
I always thought you had some wisdom, but this is just pure bs Comment from : trying my best |
I feel like employers just use the job hopping BS as an excuse just to not to hire you Because I applied to this one job and I had experience for five plus years And they told me that they won't move forward with me because they say i was job hopping but during the interview they never mentioned my experience or my resume so I told them how the fuck would you just assume that I will only stay at the job for a short term you don't know that And if that was the case that they assume I was supposed to job hopping I would have told them the reasons why I left those jobs idiots Comment from : mgm boy |
I’ve been in HR for over 20 years I increased my salary at least $20,000 every time I got a new job Comment from : T D |
what if all the jobs you hop are dead end? Comment from : mike |
How many years do you consider mid career? Comment from : Eric Liu |
Been laid off 3 times because the (startup) company went under, so it appears like job hopping but its really not Do you think its ok? Is this something I should mention? Like: oh those short lived positions, here is what happend? Btw, all those bosses I had would happily recommend me, I have great relationship with them Comment from : NL |
So in 2021, I got laid off from a job I had for less than 3 months and it took me 6 months to land a new job I have worked at my current job for a little over a year How long would I have to stay at my current job to not have that gap in my resume be a problem? Comment from : FCXmaster |
I’ve noticed in 2022 the traditional work pattern/style no longer works for a lot of employees Work environments have become more toxic, “At Will” work only promotes underlying fear employees will lose their job at anytime so that doesn’t promote loyalty the company is looking for Comment from : Elevated Positive Vibes |
2 years? Try 3months I’ve doubled my income over 1 year Comment from : Osiris Ofthesouth |
Changing jobs for the sake of change is a losing strategy Changing jobs for more pay and better benefits is smart If you are an outstanding performer in your field, you will be lured away multiple times in your career before age 30 However, your options narrow quickly after age 40, and the enticements must be greater after your salary hits six figures Job-hopping is expected for young, ambitious stars, but it looks bad on the resume of a senior executive With each job change, you risk being perceived as unstable or "a bad fit" Always change jobs for a valid reason, and use your best judgment However, some companies have a policy that limits pay andor promotions regardless of stellar performances (the policy rewards mediocrity), in which case you have no choice if you want to advance Comment from : Gary K Nedrow |
Millions of people in the US don't want to be some type of manager, so job hopping is perfect for those not interested in being in a position of leadership Comment from : Izamal Cadosa |
Gotta disagree with you on this one You’ll almost NEVER get a raise if you stay put with your employer, unless if you move up the management chain, but that’s very unlikely This is a capitalist society, the goal is to make more money right? Sometimes you need to do what’s necessary even if others don’t like it Besides you can just lie on your resume about past employers, make it look like your never job hopped once, employers don’t check past employers As long as you have the skills to do the job you’ll do great! Comment from : Mario Meza |
Career has noting to do with Job hopping,brOwn your career, some company get boring after 2 years and becomes hard to growbrbrJust be calculative Comment from : David Alli-Johnson |
Job hopping is absolutely the way to go You just have to do it correctly brbrYour definition of job upgrading is exactly what many software engineers think of job hopping asbrbrGreat content! I’ve watched more than a hundred of your videos already Comment from : Icy Violin |
I think I’d rather just maximize compensation and focus on retiring early, I have no desire to move up to a management role Comment from : James Sarlo |
"I want someone dedicated in this role but I want to pay him the less money possible" Comment from : SitRep News |
Companies don’t know how to take care of their middle managers Most Senior Managers have unrealistic expectations and actually value the Hourly employees more than middle management but claim that they need you 😂😂 there’s such a major contradiction Also, companies don’t promote from within anymore Every company I’ve worked with, looks to hire externally for roles that should be given to the next in line Comment from : Tobias The Derp |
What a load of crap Being stuck in one job for 10 years is what will stunt your growth You'll get two years experience, you'll just experience the second year nine times Comment from : kdhlkjhdlk |
ORstart your own Business!!brMuch better chance of having a decent salary than jumping through so many hoops just to get a measly extra few dollars I learned this the hard way after 2 lay offs brVirtually all my neighbors that are "well off/Upscale" have their own businesses as well Comment from : LadyOrion2012 |
What if jobs you take on are contract positions for 12 months 18 or 24 months periods each time? Comment from : CATZ MEDIA |
My first job in this state Raise after a year 18 cents an hour I said Im leaving gave me 4 dollars raise 🤦 Comment from : Cycling Martial arts with Music |
I have worked in the seasonal industry of school bus driving and summer camps in the last ten years I also tried a career change and no matter how many times I put part time or seasonal in front of the job title on my resume, people think that I am a job hopper Sometimes, you take the work that you find and relish in the fact that you are called back each season You have qualities that the employer wants back each year As a job seeker, you need to emphasize that Comment from : Artist Tom |
Corporate don't value employees Don't ever be royal to them Comment from : Eunnie T |

Another out of touch “recruiter”… Comment from : Gigi B |

Also from life after layoff: Why a steady job is bad for your career Comment from : arcsaber11 |
What if my company is experiencing shrinkage and I want to hop because I know they will probably not be able to keep up with our raises and promotions? A layoff has already happened Comment from : MollyTheUkulele |
I made several career moves some years ago, all within two years Worst thing I ever did I can't get a job in that career field anymore Comment from : Christopher Green |
This does not hold for tech companies Comment from : knoef82 |
It depends on the industry I'm in manufacturing and aside from the pay increase I am also getting skills from these various jobs that I would never get at one shop So I'm making myself more valuable by staying on the leading edge of technologies and techniques for manufacturing because I'm always on the look out for a shop that can teach me the next big skill Now my strategy is that I intend to be an entrepreneur so I need to be an expert at every aspect of this industry I intend to be a leader in I do understand your point as well and that's probably more prevalent in the office type settings than in skilled trades Comment from : The Mad Machinist |
I've got a bump of 240 in my salary with a pretty decent signing package in 6 months, changed from a Junior position to a mid-level position and honestly the salary I had to begin with wasn't low and bad at all What I can say is look for opportunities outside your comfort zone and outside of your physical zone as well, sometimes remote jobs will offer a much better payment option Always be applyingbrPlay the corporate game and get out of corporate as soon as possible It's only beneficial for the companies Comment from : Beastcuits |
I would say that it depends on the career field that you are in I happen to be an IT guy if you're not quitting your job every two to three years so you can gain experience in other fields you'll never go up and you'll be pigeonholed into one specific type of job I got too comfortable in my current position and I'm looking at positions paying people with my skillset 15,000 more than I'm getting paid right now I'm job hunting now after 10 years Comment from : Bair Freedom |
I like job hopping because I get bored at the same job Comment from : lillian p |
The job hopper is really someone that is unstable and doesn't know what they want to do in their career I mean I wouldn't even consider them if I was a recuiter because they will do the same thing to us in a six mounths to a year You should only switch jobs that frequencly is a toxic work enviroment Comment from : Victor Rivers |
What is your opinion on leaving jobs due to not liking the boss or coworkers? Comment from : Eli Arbaiza |
I'm 55 now and my biggest regret is how long I stayed with each company Hop away! Those 1 to 2 raises just don't get you anywhere Comment from : Jim Maag |
Way back in day you could get a job and stay with the company twenty years but that is not the reality anymore There is not job stability like it was twenty or thirty years ago Companies today have high turnover rates and toxic work environments and low business morale Companies need to improve their work culture management and have employees stick around by treating them better Comment from : Christina Morales |
I've been in the job market for 19 years, never made more than what I am now I've only job hopped when it became obvious that me having autism was stopping my growth at the company or perhaps even reversing itor I was irreplaceable in my position, like with my previous employer Comment from : TGOTR |
Yeah if you hit the ceiling on the individual contributor path fast that’s when you settle into a job for a bit until other companies start to pay higher for the same skillset Comment from : T TIME |
This is true not only for hiring managers etc but for your co-workers Since everyone uses linkedin when I look at new team members to see what their background is to see where they might fit on our team and I see them hopping every yearI consider them to be already on the way out so I will not help or mentor them since they are already gone, waste of my and the companies time Comment from : callmebigpapa |
It's a bet, So do I want more money in my first 15 yrs than my peers? Yes, coz I have my youth where I need to enjoy food, booze, vacations, travel etc with the energy and recovery that natural testerone brings atleast till 35brbrBut I also don't want to stagnate at 35-40 and be paid less than my peers and miss out on leadership roles, coz I would want more money for my kids, medicines, mortgages etc So it's a double edged sword, you got to trade off on something and can't have both brbrI'd choose the latter, as life is very long and complicated and not short as you think it is in your youth Comment from : livestrong296 |
This is a 20th Century mindset Job hopping is pretty much encouraged by companies and really none care if you worked at least a year somewhere The idea of long employment with one company is gone Workers have figured out that companies screw their employees over with lack of promotions, raises, and quality of work/life balance I have been lucky to work from home the past 10 years, and now other people realize how great it is Just not commuting is a raise in and of itself Unless you get 10 or better raises each year, always look for new opportunities outside of your company But, make sure to consider the benefits package overall Some places offer higher salaries but poorer medical/401k options Comment from : David Cripe |
I was at my current company for 7 years with minimal increases Recently moved to a company and my salary increased $30k I wish I had done it sooner Comment from : chinese302 |
How would this appeal to the young people in the job market wanting to level up but aren’t given the opportunity to do we take on all these routes of volunteering, looking for chances that will boost our value (esp since post-secondary doesn’t guarantee us a job after school) Comment from : Chavon James |
I didn’t switch mostly for the money but I did leave food service for retail and out of a toxic environment to a better one It was a bit more per hour but it was the industry switch and a quality environment onebrIt depends on the industry some like restaurants close or do have high turnover Comment from : A Man A Cat and his Dog |
Good thing I plan to retire at 35 Comment from : coco man |
I don't believe at all that this is a "black on white" topic This means it's not something like "it is okay to move to another job every X years" There are a lot of subjective factors included If you are having big problems on your current company and you already tried to address it, you are more than welcome to look for another job You are not supposed to work in a place that impacts your mental health (or your financial situation) just because you have to reach the "minimum time" And if another company asks why, you can always give a good reason for it Comment from : Breno Schneider |
You should do a video on finding time to interview when you have a full time job Comment from : Kennedawg |
I think you do okay job on these videos, but they just leave me so incredibly depressed Why do I have to engage with this insane awful system to just be able to exist uaaarghhqfzxklgwq Comment from : Fipajz |
It's gig economy and there's no loyalty from employee or employer anymore it's ballshit After a certain age of 50 employers don't want us It's not about income Hiring managers need to get educated and focus on the person and skills but that's too hard isn't it Comment from : chocolatejellybean |
Maybe a few hiring managers need to ask themselves why this strategy worksbr br1 Why are you paying the new hire with 5 years experience more than you are paying the guy you hired fresh out of school 5 years ago?br2 When you are looking to hire someone to supervise the two people in #1, why are you hiring an outsider rather than the guy who was loyal for 5 years? Comment from : Daniel Schein |
I love your channel and all the information and advice you give! Thank you! ❤️ Comment from : staceyleigh7818 |
What do you do if you job hopped for 6 - 8 years and now stuck in rut to even get a job in my career path? Comment from : jomigirock |
Maybe people wouldn't "job jump" if they were compensated fairly in the first place Comment from : Fran |
This is very relative This assumes you can ‘control’ your career stability Either by choice or by force, the first 15 years of my career have been in five different roles and three different industries Although there’s a common technical denominator in all of them, the diversity of knowledge and skills has helped me adapt to new roles, particularly when I was forced to leave one and never by fault of my own Be careful with trying too hard to have a ‘stable’ career because you might end up without the tools and skills to adapt to new roles, particularly if you’re forced to Comment from : alarriag1 |
