Coming to this comment section for advice brWould buying an old $800 car just to get to work and stuff be a bad investment when I’ve got like over 2k in debt Comment from : Tondone |

I'm not against investing in stocks, in fact it's one of my preferred methods of additional incomebrBut consistently selling people on the idea that if they invest in the S&P 500 that they'll make 10 per year indefinitely is very misleading in my opinion It was only a few years ago that the annual average return was only 7-8, but now because of covid and the FED printing some 45 trillion USD everything is inflated to hell and being misrepresented In the following decades we are more likely to see stagnant growth in index funds averaging only 2-3 returns annually vs's the 10+ we have been seeing from the last 3-4yrs brIn short, I'm saying the index funds would not be providing the returns they have without the manipulation and meddling by the FED, and that the returns that people are bragging about index funds netting is only because of the last few years of sharp appreciation (void of real growth) Comment from : Solistica |
The actual perfect age to talk to Caleb, no mess yet, no debts but also no plan Just open to everything and being able to raise one financial good american at a time Caleb should be teaching this to 16 year olds at school Comment from : Rebecca Scholte |

So is that a girl or?? Comment from : PleaseExitThePool |

I completely understand this persons plight Ulcerative colitis can flare pretty bad when under stress But acting would stress me the f out as well, hopefully it doesn’t stress them out Comment from : ASMR ANONYMOUS GAMING |

What a great episode, what a great way to explain compound growth, and how thrilling to be able to share this with someone just starting out! I wish I had this sort of financial education in high school! While I’m in a really great financial situation today, I think about how it would be even better had I saved a bit more a bit earlier, opened a Roth in high school, etcbrbrSo excited for them and for anyone young watching this! Comment from : Brian Adams |
Why is an 18 year old getting audited I mean sure fix the habits but this is just not interesting They hardly left the nest Comment from : Derek Williams |
He has a good head on his shoulders at least The paying rent to the family is rough Comment from : Dylan Field |
The gender issues that young ppl are struggling with, make me sad Comment from : TR AD |
Why does she think acting is less stressful or more accommodating of poop issues than work is? Comment from : nineteenfortyeight |
Thaaaaaank you for a layman's "compound growth" explanation! Comment from : Jonah Reid |
I think it's less that people that are into acting are more likely to sign up It's more that people that are in to acting are more likely to be awful with money Comment from : Ycombine |
Sorry to sound very "asian" but why do young americans aim so low when it comes to careers? Everyone wants art or even if its something like teaching, it's school I get the passion element but why not acknowledge yhe trade off between risk and setting yourself up to a very tough financial future? There are just as much interesting and exciting fields that require harder initial education and work but gets relatively the same long term effort for a more stable and comfortable life Aim higher to land somewhere lower But as calen said, i feel like a dick saying this Comment from : DN |
She's in trouble in a lot of ways it seems! Comment from : Ainsley Harriott |
I've yet to ever meet a young woman who admits to aspiring to be an actress that i felt was being genuine with me If they think they act well enough to get paid for it they definitely think they can deceive me by putting up a facade Comment from : Zack Turner |
Rooting for you Toby! 👏👏👏 br+ Grants and scholarships as much as you can (ask your job too about it, not just what you can find online)br+ Get a high yield savings account if you're gonna have a savings account anywaysbr+ Invest a teeny bit now and increase as you get more money br+ AA/AS is a great way to start or get back into college (and if you want to go any higher, you can always transfer) - plus, once you're in college, you can join any of the acting/arts related extracurricularsbr+ If you get a job that provides a 401K - always get the match! Comment from : ElleonOnline |
“I hate when that kind of crap just gets in the way of life” - CalebbrbrNo truer words spoken to someone with Ulcerative Colitis Lol As a sufferer of Crohn’s, I feel the same way when “crap” gets in the way of life 🤣 Comment from : Jenni |
As someone who studied film and worked in film briefly, it breaks my heart to see so many people that come on here with similar dreams who just aren't yet aware of how nearly impossible it is to make that work It's trying to entire a career field that's flooded with a billion people who all think to they're capable of doing it, but in reality they're just taking up space Comment from : Drew |
what kind of girl is named Toby Comment from : J |
My father-in-law gave my kid a bucket of Colgate stock We've watched it rise & fall in value but husband felt disrespectful if we changed it He's about to turn 18, it's $20k & I'm going to transfer it to an S&P account never to be touched So grateful he has this start since I had him at 40 & lost several years of retirement at a late age Comment from : Christine Leifer |
I don't know if they will see this, especially because it's 2 months old I would suggest they look into medical stuff with kids rather than teaching With a love of kids, physics, good at math and history for chronic illness medical like child life (hospital care), or physical therapy are both amazing careers They have the compassion, empathy needed as well as the educational skills Working with kids is inherently using arts and creativity as well as a bit of performance art no matter what field it's in I have a chronic illness myself and working in medical arenas with kids and I think Toby would be a great fit 😊 Comment from : Dawn P |
Why another actor on the show?brI think it is because young people with a dream eg acting, writing, influencer, You Tuber, etc, etc, go into it without a plan to support themselves financially, and therefore get into trouble with debtbrThe 5 P's - Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance Comment from : Kadachiman |
I am an art teacher and my husband is a music teacher, they are DESPERATE for special areas educators!!! brDo it! Comment from : Grace Helfrich-Godat |

i want to see more like this!! i think it's really useful to see how you recommend preventing a tragic financial situation instead of just picking up the pieces (though of course those are helpful too) Comment from : ninjagob4b3 |
Hopefully she jumps on the Roth Perfect opportunity to start early Comment from : ToeMosS _Vlogs |
I’m not fucking with the whole crushing people’s dreams thing, but in general it was decent advice Comment from : GingerMamba |
Hey, if they like physics, being a physics teacher is a very desirable teacher position But plenty of bigger school districts, especially in Texas do tend have several teachers for the arts brbrTeaching certification, I'd recommend maybe doing alt certification I know for science you can be 7-12 certified or 4-8 certified in, iirc So there's some flexibility there Comment from : Kylie Eliz |
Caleb you are so obviously doing something right, I started watching around 40k and now I’m watching this video from a month ago and you are saying you are close to 250k subs- and here you are a month later with almost 500k! So crazy!! Keep up the good work, the content is amazing Comment from : Edney |
I am so jealous of Tobey I wish someone had sat me down and explained these things to me at 18 The opportunity is there- hopefully it's taken! Comment from : James B |

Seems like lots of young people plan to spin their wheels on a fairytale career until they have no choice but to settle for something shitty in the real world Comment from : Nathan |
As someone who has had horrible UC since the age of 14 (31 now), it bothers me when anyone uses it as an excuse to not work harder and pursue things If you don't want to go to college, don't go to college, that's fine but, don't fall back on "well there were days I couldn't do _____"brbrThat being said, they seem like they're putting themself in the right spot br As always, great video Comment from : Griffnation |
Young adults need this show to get them started on the right feet and minimize the financial mistakes or not-so-good decisions Comment from : Tom |
Toby? They? This thing, this creature deserves to be poor since they don't live in reality Comment from : Trigger Time TV |
Your show is going to get really crazy when people fuck their lives just to get on their show Comment from : Max No Lift |
im so glad i enjoy my job and want to continue with it as a career now, at 18, rather than in 10 years and regret not making the tough choices i’ve made thus far Comment from : 2wnstar |
Oof, ulcerative colitis is rough I hope they're doing well! Sending good vibes Comment from : Nae |
I couldn't imagine charging my 18 yo kids or niece/nephew rent when they are trying to figure everything out Give them time, expect and help them make the right choice and move in right direction My kids are still young, but as soon as they get into highschool the financial education is coming in hot and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure they aren't spinning their wheels financially until their mid to late 20s like I did Comment from : no one |
Move to Canada get ur teacher license and get a position in canadas far north remote communities like yukon north west territories ect as the are in need of qualified people in all jobs but as a teacher u can get a starting salary of $130,000 plus other benefits from the gov u get for working in the north as no one wants to most have families and it's minus 30 in winter ect Comment from : JRE Podcast Clips |
This person is a genius I was fortunate in that I was also in a technical track but like most people I didn't really stop to think about the debt I was accruing until I was out of school It was crippling This person was way more aware of their situation than I was at their age and I applaud them Keep true to yourself, be genuine always Good luck Comment from : Colin Bunting |
please dont do what I did and take 120 grand out on art school :d Comment from : inkstickart |
I've had the college/career conversation with 15 year old I told him "find what you love to do" is BS Spoiler alert: 99 of people wouldn't do their job if they didn't get paid The goal should be to find a career that you LIKE If you don't dread going to work that's a win The job is a how you make money that gives you the opportunities to do what gives you true joy Comment from : Catherine Goodrich |
Her financial situation could be worse Comment from : Alex Colegate |
I was always told to follow the money and learn to love whatever career you fall into Seems to be true so far Comment from : Piero Bernini |
Lol why do these actors have no personality Comment from : Oeyoeyoo |
I think our youth just doesn’t understand having to make sacrifices in life in order to actually survive and thrive later on Social media plays a big role in my opinion everyone wants to have the best of everything to look cool or however they want people to perceive them Comment from : luis valencia |
We believe in you Toby! You got this! Explore your options and keep up with your health, don’t let anyone tell you or make you feel it’s not real, my wife has something similar and has struggled but is doing much better Comment from : Brady |
You don't know what you don't know I wish I had made different financial decisions her age :( However, I feel hopeful for her and she seems so receptive to your advice I wish her financial future well Comment from : Charli M |
I wish I was on the show when I was 18 I'm in great standing now, but when I started making money, I had no idea what to do with it! Comment from : Nadia Nieves |
One thing to note is that if you are not a dependent anymore, your fafsa will be based off of your own taxes This means that you will qualify for more financial aid since it is based on your own income and be able to go to college for cheaper, if not free There are also scholarships and many programs available to help students financially Comment from : Alexis Jacobs |
My high-school art teacher wasn't an artist He loved art though He would give us a vague prompt and let us run with it But also in the Austin area Toby could work for a childcare for 20$ hourly easily with no experience Just needs to shop around but they're hella desperate for teachers It would be a steady schedule with weekends off for side whatever Comment from : Mouseymouse |
Toby is in such an awesome spot! Maybe Toby could teach physics to kids to combine two areas of slight experience 🤷♂️ I hope Toby finds that drive to hustle NOW and to iron down personal development to be in such a good spot by 25 You got this, Toby! Comment from : Gerardo Morales |
Imagine paying rent to your own family what a sh*tty family Comment from : lol |

I hope Toby considers voice acting gigs The $ is good and Toby has a great voice Comment from : R Penmark |
I'm a teacher in a large urban district in another state Something for this young person to consider is teaching math or science at the middle level and doing an acting club or arts club after school for extra stipend Still leaves room for acting And most public schools have good healthcare and time off that will help with the health issues Another bonus is taking advantage of public service loan forgiveness for working in low income school Comment from : Budget and Balance |
