I enjoyed this video but noticed that a large number of your hints (many of which I have followed with successful results throughout my life) are focused on fairly active, home owning, driving or family households br As a retired, 70 year old woman, it is not surprising that my circle of friends and acquaintances is diminishing but of those of us left, most are city dwelling, non-driving, single living, small rental apartment dwellers for whom a lot of your hints simply are not applicable br A follow up video of suggestions for those of my demographic living alone (not as likely to do as much baking or food prep), in small (not much storage for bulk), urban (no car necessary), rental (restricted from too much DIY or gardening) apartments would be really interesting br Possibly ideas like sharing bulk deals amongst neighbours or friends if possible, taxi sharing to grocery shop (if too far or heavy to carry or use public transit), saving on certain banking charges, learning more about senior discount deals, and checking out community support programs for seniors on fixed incomes would be the kind of thing that would be useful to a lot of people in my situation br Just a thought since you seem to have a knack for presenting a clear, quick and concise list of suggestions Comment from : Hermitess |

The best frugal tip I know is to adjust your expectations You can go into debt for an expensive dream home or you can buy small within your means If you decide that having enough is as good as a feast, you’ll not be disappointedbrbrLearn to do for yourself You would be surprised what you can learn to do from books and YouTube videos Hubby and I Bought a run-down, 2/1 old house 10 years ago for cheap and fixed it up over time by doing most of the work DIY Anything that we couldn’t do, we paid for by saving and one at a time I’m currently renovating a laundry room into a hybrid laundry room/closet/bathroom Thus far, have DIY the demo, leveled the foundation, laid the tile, built the closet using as much leftover materials as possible, and painted The next projects are to install a composting toilet (better for the environment, less water use, saving a TON of money not having to deal with sewage plumbing,) build a small sink (rescued an antique 1890s table that will be refinished,) and install a bathtub Doing all of this DIY Decorations are items that I’ve found from secondhand shops, yard sales, etc this is what we’ve done in every room in the house; found creative ways to improve our home without going into debt The house is currently worth about 10x what we paid for it brbrWould I have liked a move-in ready house over living with drywall dust everywhere, no A/C or heat, nothing but a tiny mud shower for bathing, and no kitchen until we could afford to build what was needed? Of course! Who wouldn’t want a gorgeous, roomy kitchen and a dream bathroom with a sauna? Hubby and I decided that our dream was not to be stuck in crushing debt in favor of living a more simple, self-sustained life Comment from : Wyledgirl30 |

Great set of ideas, except I would add one more: swap out your car(s) for public transportation or walk/bike short distances If you live in an old fashioned town or city as we do, you can do just fine without a car Will Rogers famously said, "We are the first nation in the history of the world to go to the poorhouse in an automobile" Comment from : Constance Benson |

Another thing - a yard does not need to be mowed exactly every seven days ! A couple days past that " rule " over a summer saves time , gas money & can actually help the grass establish firm roots & possibly choke out a few weeds over time We live in the country so no HOA to measure our " lawn " & fine us ! I recently did a garage & barn ( small one car size building ) purge - gave a friend many good condition tools , etc in exchange for replacing a house faucet ( had the original box + yrs old receipt w/ lifetime guarantee so it was free ) & he also removed dying shrubs & helped w/ the " clean out " in exchange for other items A neighbor for whom I did free dog sitting insisted on my using his hedge clippers rather than buying my own - nice ! Share , borrow , fair bartering - help your friends ! 🥰 Comment from : Cynthia Johnston |

We live in a third world country We live offgrid No tv We grow our own veggies We homeschool, bake our own bread, I sew our clothing (it's vastly cheaper here), make our soap, brew our own beer, never eat out (that's so funny!), cook from scratch (I don't even know what you do if you don't cook from scratch?), no bills, I do everyone's hair (by the way we have 12 children - bio, fostered, adopted, and 3 adults we care for), no such thing as a dishwasher (so funny that everyone talks about dishwashers), hang our washing on the line to dry (why would you not?) etc etc I can't believe that people don't do all these 50 things Crazy the difference in different countries Comment from : Sharon |
