as someone who had a handful of the v basic toy vtech computers in the early 00s, the pc endeavour one wouldve been a blast to fiddle around with at least for the word processor so i wouldnt have to keep begging for time on the family computer to write my little first grade stories lmaooo Comment from : Fortuna Major |
For years I wondered about this one computer look-alike that I had as a kid Just by watching this and seeing some of how these toys were styled, I remember having one of these from the late 80s In just a few minutes I finally figured out what I had It was the Vtech Smart Start Speller Thank you, @NostalgiaNerd!! Comment from : Charleigh Copley |

I used to have the PreComputer 1000 but didn't have the manual, so not knowing any of the commands, the programming mode was absolutely useless to me I think the only good thing about the toy to me was my first time with a full-size keyboard Comment from : Will Man |
I'd rather have the "laptop" design over the tablet, which damages the kids vision and neck due to bad posturing Comment from : Azisk Garion |
my two kids have had loads v tech gadgets growing up and everyone they have loved me i think they are rubbish kids love them i thin they are awsome Simple fact like the minority gamers saying switch is rubbish my kids will play that every day over my ps5 or series x Comment from : The Mad Moderator |
I feel like so many of these things are basically demeaning to kids I mean when I was like 6 or 7 my dad got the first iMac when it came out , and I was already teaching myself a lot on there, we had a family friend who was into hacking and pirating and stuff … thank goodness my parents were cool enoughor inattentive enough sometimes, to let me just zone into that early computer learning and exploring the software, and eventually hardware taking them apart and putting back together!brI feel like it’d be a disservice to a kid to give them something like this I mean now it’s a whole different story though because your other option is giving them access to an always-on, always listening and watching and social media creepiness and…ugh Man I grew up at just the right time for what I experienced! Lol Comment from : Jordan Howell |
Fun to think that when our kids reach out age, they're going to be nostalgic about the "simple" tech we have now and wonder if their kids will appreciate just how much has changed in 30 years Hell we as 90s kids don't really appreciate the tech before us Imagine a time before we went to the moon or even a transistor I'm 34, my parents were born in '56 They were just little when the transistor was invented Go back to our grandparents and they couldn't imagine a world without heavier than air travel and wouldn't grasp the technological breakthroughs to make that happenbrbrI had a vtech precomputer prestige and that's where I learnt BASIC I remember being in a doctor waiting room and pulling it out All the adults looked at my mom like she was crazy because they thought it was an actual factual multi-thousand dollar laptop Lol nope, I'm secretly typing swear words and giggling about it on my 2" screen Comment from : Christopher Thompson |

Good grief, these are hilarious! I vaguely remember them as the toy laptops that nobody took seriously In contrast, by the mid-90s, people were using Commodore 64s for doorstops For a few dollars you could give your kid a more fulfilling computer experience playing with BASIC and LOGO -- with much better sound and graphics -- if he was actually interested in computers and didn't just want "his own laptop" -- JC Comment from : Basic Bites |

Am I the only one that wants someone to gut one of these and do something? Because the shells look neat Comment from : Andrew Singleton |
These look interesting, but I was an older kid during the 90's and I used the real thing at school, so when I was 12 or 13 I got my first real PC at home It ended up being a victim of my constant trial and error experimenting, but at least it recovered fast and I became good at fixing Windows problems because of it Computers rarely misbehave when I'm around 😅 Comment from : CHRISMENENDEZ |
Viewer Interaction! Comment from : APalladium |
I always hoped in some misguided and truly Well, misguided way that perhaps I could use one of those as a word processor Where the kid could save a homework essay that they worked on all week and print it They would appreciate the "keyboarding"it would print and look just fine with wild mwrgingmsv as the first truly computerized homework!
