The part about a friend immate trying to get Merle to escape with him from san Quinton is not true I watched a interview where Merle said he wanted to escape with the guy and the guy wouldn't let himtelling him that he was young and had a future in music The inmate friend went with out Merle after 2 week's on the run he got into a shoot out with CSTshot and killed a trooper Was sentenced to death And was put to death one year after Merle was released from prison inspiring merle to write and record Sing Me Back Home

The Triumphant Life of Merle Haggard would be more accurate He found THE woman for him late in life, but he died happy and well respected He dug out of the debt from the mismanagement of funds in the 70s, and left his family comfortable, however he did have a crazy amount of tragedy in his life RIP

My husband loved the sound of this man and considered "I'VE ALWAYS BEEN CRAZY" as his own song and I see from this that Merle died only a little later in 2016 as my sweet husband of almost 49 years
