As a teacher of US History and Econ, I love your videos and regularly use them to review Teaching sometimes has to be performance art to reach the students I don't know how it is in your public high schools, but I average 32 students per class Like making activities student centered, but there's not enough of me to go around, and so many of my students have little background in US history because they came to the US recently and have never studied it before Still, I love the kids and the job, but assessment tests required by the district (Yeah, we did create the writing prompts), make me feel like I'm spending too much time checking off completed for the district After 28 years, I hate to see the direction education is going and am considering retiring at the end of this year Hard to work for administrators that I have little respect for Changing the subject: Has anyone told you that you are of a similar genetic makeup as one of the funniest men on the planet, local boy Greg Proops? I totally agree with the message of the video, but one thing I've noticed as a student is that a lot of the hands on projects actually reduce my excitement and confidence because they require artistic elements like drawing or making an impressive looking slideshow If someone is naturally artistic, than these projects are fantastic for them and they'll spend a ton of time and learn a lot But for someone like me, all the tedious work involved actually hinders the creative process because it's not the way I want to express my creativity When I had to do a comic, for example, it made me feel less connected to the work because I spent most of the time trying to make something passably aesthetic product, and I wouldn't ever get an A+ because I'm not artistic enough to make something from my head which will "wow" the teacher It would be so much more exciting for me if I could type a speech or a funny research paper that wouldn't be so tedious and stressful
