"decibels don't rise linearly" you have an OK suspicion, but that's not really how that works decibels matter more at higher bass freqs because of the Fletcher-Munson curve, look it up that's what creates that psychoaccoustic perception (and it's perception, because it's only our ears that perceive this change in how much a single dB matters, it's not hard-baked in physics)

I don t have experience with spl meter, but when i installed in big box with 1 subwoofer 12 inch, I imstalled another one , since low volume you geel differnce more upper freq response and more low end freq response as per my expierence

Nobody ever said a 15" sub is louder than a 12" sub The larger the sub, the lower the frequency of sound it is able to deliver A larger sub may actually sound quieter, because the human ear cannot hear ultra low frequencies However, ultimately the loudness will be determined by the wattage

1 10" in a 12 cubic inch box will punch harder and be cleaner than 1 12" in a 12 cubic inch box I have 2 15's and 2 10's in my Black Beauty (90 Dodge Daytona ES 30l v6 5 speed) She's super loud and hits very clean

Run the largest sub you can Thats all you need to say An 18 would be better but the enclosure sizes start getting very big 25cuft for a 12, 35 for a 15, 55 for an 18 I dont even look at 21s because i dont have the room You can run a smaller enclosure and eaualize the low range to compensate You can run a smaller sub jn a larger enclosure for more response but you sacrifice power handling

lows were just brutal with 15 sub, didn't work really really low like 12 tho because the weight of it's components For example jeezy's put on lowest bass line didn't do much with 15 when with 12 that's just brutal too So i think i prefer 2 12's

Cone area is king 2 15s is going to be louder than 2 12s but if you’re trying to stuff as many woofers in as you can a 12” that’s ideal air space is 18 compared to a 15” 30 you can fit more 12s than 15s Eight 15s in 24cubes or 12 12” in less space and 24” of more cone area
