I think the SSD capacity also plays a role on how fast the project can be deliveredbrbrThe higher capacity the better, because M chips also use the SSD to store temp memory Comment from : VideoEventJakarta |
I don't think you're considering the life cycle of a mac I myself have a 2013 Macbook Air, still running smoothly, so in my opinion it's definitely worth getting memory 1 level above what you need today, because you could be owning this machine for over 10 years, and Apple doesn't exactly make it easy for users to upgrade their machines Comment from : F Duarte |

You said its the memory is as fast as most PC's the memory bandwidth is 200GB/s on M2 pro while DDR5 maxes out at 64GB/s Comment from : Andre Messado |
I definitely choose more RAM to avoid constant swapping to the SSD which can decrease the lifetime of the SSD For me, also looking into to the future, I‘d not buy anything less than 32 GB Comment from : Swiss Pixel Hunter |
My all in one aluminum desktop Mac came with 4 gigs of ram back in college Digital audio editing Comment from : Heebahobba |
14" 16-32 gig My big problem about purchasing more for the future is Will the labtop last that long Will Apple support the sytem for that long or force you to upgrade I purchased a big brand PC six years ago running Win 1o Already not upgradable to Win 11 & Microsoft says they are not supporting Win 10 anymore Just received my supposed last update & I get a small window pop up asking me to enter my pin when I log on to the internet using Microsoft Edge browser & can't even get a response from Microsoft about it (is it Microsoft asking for my pin or???) because I run Win 10 So I hit the cancel button & run as is I'm not entering my sign on pin again unless someone from Microsoft talks to me Heck, I'll go off grid & just go to the library if need be Comment from : Thomas Tuorto |
You totally ignored swap memory and effect on ssd Comment from : ajphototrekker |

Memory chips are cheap A F, no reason to make a laptop with 8 gb of ram in 2023 And there was no reason for 8gb of ram even 4-6 years ago Apple is $caming people, 8gb of ram is 27$, and 256gb ssd are 20$, there is no place in a modern PC for bargain bin parts Comment from : Hh Kk |
Unified memory is a S C A M😂 before that you had 8gb of ram and minimum of 2 gb of video memory, 10gb total, but now you have 8gb total - ridiculous And modern GPUs have 8-16-24 gb of video memory Comment from : Hh Kk |

Thank you for the video I'm looking everywhere and can't really find a good reference or answer When running windows parallel , do you need 64gb of ram? assuming 32gb divided by half would leave only 16gb left for the Mac side Comment from : Michael Ta |
RAM is not Random Access Memory RAM is Read Apple Magazine Everybody knows it Comment from : Edward Lorenz |
as far as im concerned theres never a situation you should have less than 16 gigs with the ram swap issue that people have been having with it using up their SSD's just having a browser, your email, and discord open uses just under 8gb that leaves you no space for some workflow or something never get the 8gb skew unless all you do is like use the internet only or something, and if thats all you are doing why are you spending over 1000 dollars on a laptop in the first place Comment from : wickedtoast |
Youtubers when talking about CPU intensive tasks: Video Editing and PhotoshopbrbrI laugh at this when I hear it, sometimes it's cringe This sort of statements comes from their narrow view of what people use computers for Comment from : Apocalypse DOTA |

Hey Arthur, question on Movavi performance on Mac M1 Movavi is Intel-only Will it work fine? Comment from : Testing Coder |
Its easy If you want to use your newest macbook / mac for the next 10years, choose at least 16 gb In the next 10 years 8gb ram might not enough to support daily worklouds But if you plan to sell it in 5 years You could buy the 8gb ram one And buy a new 16gb ram (minimal) version in the next 5 years Comment from : Eto Story |
I only buy a new Mac every 5 years or so I always get more than I think I’ll need as a result Comment from : Croaker 47 |

As a statistician who works with large social science datasets and sometimes uses two statistics programs at the same time, my M1 air needed all 16 Gb of memory Very occasionally, I ran out Comment from : Janet Rosenbaum |
Apple have very cleverly priced all of their hardware to extract the maximum 'Apple tax' for RAM and storage upgrades 16GB is still the sweet spot - PC gamers will want more but you have a lot more choices with a PC you build yourself Comment from : Arthur Watts |
my spec is M1 pro, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB, never skipped a beat once i do music production Comment from : BielakBeats |

I promise you every one who watches this video what ram is Comment from : Oxide |
My number one piece of advice if you’re planning on spending a lot of money on a new laptop or desktop is, buy the device you need 5 years from now and not the device you need today Technology is advancing very quickly and it’s possible that in 5 years the same programs you’re running now could call for more hardware With windows PCs it’s not that big of deal as you can easily upgrade them, but macs are a different story and I’d recommend future proofing your purchase Comment from : Aaron Fisher |
32+ for java developing Comment from : Владимир |

what if I export once a week, mostly at 1080p, will move to 4k when I am paid for it but also will probably pay someone to do so I guess from this video, 8GB of RAM is more than enough? Comment from : Marlene Lands |
Of course 32GB will be the best for video editing and heavier workloadbrBut Apple is smart and give you the option to buy a unit with 32GB just adding a 1TB SSD and the Max chipsetbrAll of this are of course way overpriced due to commercial/marketing reasonbrThis is one of the aspect I don't like about Apple and it's stopping me to buy my first Macbook everbrI come from 30 years of PCs and I know how easy and cheaper could be upgrading RAM or SSDbrIt's just the way Apple milks their customers unfortunately Comment from : TheMash |

Greatest video on this channel so far! Just what I needed to know with the best analogies and practical demos, this video really goes to show the meaning of RAMs in modern day Macs (and PCs by extension) Keep up the simplified yet detailed good work Comment from : Spirit Guy |
8 for browsing netflix and light games/video editing, 16+ for heavier tasks, such as video editing and games etc etc, futureproofing is foolish as you overspend and end up finding the cpu not enough 7+ years anyway - 8 should last you fine unless suddenly 16 becomes the basic level of ram Comment from : Josh 106 |
In 2021 I purchased a 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro I went with 16GB because I’m wasn’t doing crazy complex tasks, but I did have to run a VM in Parallels for the first time because Bootcamp wasn’t an option I also used a docker container to install Azure Data Studio This resulted in my RAM being overloaded and now I’m upgrading to an M2 Max MacBook Pro less than 2 years later I really wish people would have considered things like VMs when making RAM recommendations Comment from : Jerome Scott |
Nowadays each browser tab takes 400mb- 1gb ram Comment from : solidfuel86 |
