So what's your choice, Truck or SUV? Comment from : Last Line Of Defense |
I haven’t chosen yet, iM trying figure out what makes sense At this point I’m leaning toward making my own thing with a truck for me and my kiddos Thanks for the food for thought, So much more things to consider than I initially thought Comment from : Dave |

You should learn some technicalities brWhat is true 4wd and awd? The most trucks have part-time 4wd, when it is activated both your driveshafts rotate at the same angle speed, in all other cases trucks are actually RWD vehicles, it is cheap classic design You use Land Cruiser 80 as the example of an SUV It has the full-time 4wd t-case with differential 4wd is activated by default and it allows the driveshafts to rotate at different angle speed, it is necessary for making turns on dry pavement without stressing your drivetrain, however you can lock that differential and your driveshafts will rotate with the equal angle speed as part-time 4wd 4wd system of Land Cruiser with full-time t-case and locking differentials in both axles is the best overallbrAWD with automatically on-demand electronically activated coupling is a trait of crossovers, like Chevy Equinox Comment from : Aby Kaby |

I have a pickup however I am switching to a SUV (a used police ford explorer) reason simple security and seating tows a trailer etc for shtf Comment from : sub dawg |

Have a TJ right now and I just purchased a 76 Chevy K10 single cab and I'm wanting to get into overlanding been considering using the TJ for it but I really think the old truck with two gas tanks might serve the purpose better Comment from : RedneckWithAJeep |
I currently own a 1994 land cruiser How good is that for overlanding? Comment from : William Otto |
I wouldn't depend on a newer Land Rover for anything Owned two Comment from : someparts |
Good video, but it's clearly geared toward casual trail drivers If you're talking tougher trails no doubt an SUV like a 4runner, Lexus GX, or Jeep beats it Trucks are longer, do not articulate near as well because again they have a bed and are essentially two separate parts vs an SUV is one solid cab Comment from : Aaron gg |
I choose suv is better for overlanding 👍 Comment from : Those Between Winter |
2007 Toyota 4Runner V8 Keeps my dogs and gear (and sometimes me) out of the weather If I need to haul more, I’ll bring the trailer I had the truck and loved it, but that thing would FILL UP with dust whenever I would get in that fine silt What a mess Comment from : Driftless 1 |

11:50 AWD is best for pavement and works absolutely wonderful on that scenario 4WD or 4x4 (same thing for the most part) is best for Off-Road 4x4 engaged on pavement is horrible AWD outside the Pavement is not a huge advantage unless it has been thought out for it like with the current Ford Maverick, Subaru, Ford Bronco Sport or the most capable versions of Toyota Rav4 at most brBTW, Your video was great, although I was trying to find something a bit more focused towards daily driving, city, highway and the ocasional dirt trail that requires AWD or 4WD when wet (like logging trails with a steep climb)brI am currently trying to decide between a Seat Formentor (CUV or Crossover), Ford Maverick AWD and Toyota Tacoma Sport 4x4 It is for my dad, He has some health problems and my main concern is the height of the vehicle for him to get in But Pickups pay no tax in Mexico while any other vehicle pays a fair ammount brAny thoughts/advise would be great Comment from : 69 Sound |
YOu can also get a 270 Awning with tent walls, as a "hang-out area" - Thanks for the video I am new to Overlanding and finding the right vehicle for me This video was really helpful :) Comment from : Mariesa Friday |

My first vehicle was a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and it was a dream Ol’ Hank and I hade some pretty fun adventures in the hills of Crook County WY brI loved my FJ80 Land Cruiser, but she was getting to old for my budget to keep up with maintenance brI’ve loved my 2005 4Runner but it is now also getting old and losing power I tried a Tundra for about 2 weeks and quickly sold it Too big and not the adventure vehicle I hoped it would be brI have decided to build a 4Runner and have some fun building it to meet our family adventure needs Stop me if I am making a mistake! :)brOh and do I really need CarPlay? #Hummer me personally it was my dream car and I saved up for it and I did some over landing and it's all geared up I love it but I'm thinking of trading it or buying a Hummer h 3 truck because the car I'm currently using is a Hummer h3 and I have a lot of extra accessories that are very well but personally I like the SUV because you can just jump up and down the car and you don't have to go to the freezing weather or to the raining or a desert storm like I was recently in just more convenient in my opinion Comment from : Ghost Ooo |

I have a 2000 ford Excursion v10 limited 4X4 with 430s with rear LSD it is the BIGGEST SUV ever made so you have so much more room Super duty under neath no other SUV was only based on a heavy duty platform So the only problem that could happen is the truck being too wide So I have to say best 6k I've ever spent Better than any other SUV idc what you say 🤷 Comment from : Martins Garage |

Awesome video Thanks The only thing I really wish I could find in a truck set-up is direct access to the cab I know it's picky, but as a prepper with an imagination, I love the idea of being able to go from my tent/bed straight to my driver's seat without having to expose myself to potential threats outside I'd rather not have to customize it myself, but We'll see Comment from : Ransom Baggins |

Your right on , it really depends on what your going to do the most Have had a 4Runner , Tacoma , Tundra and Sequoia We do a lot of off grid camping ( over landing) 4 wheeling into places that get us away from the crowds I also tow a 28ft travel trailer, or drift boat a lot also My vehicle of choice had been a Tundra with a camper shell and tent camper on top very versatile goes most anywhere a dedicated four wheel drive will go if not to narrow But since I have owned my sequoia it has become my favorite does everything the Tundra did including hauling firewood lumber etcseats all fold down , rear window goes down lots of room in and out 4 wheel drive with locking diff Independent rear suspension So in our case this works for all out needs and has great versatility Although you don’t always need FWD if you really want to get away it very handy brHappy Trails Comment from : Mike Kuczynski |
I bought a Ford ranger new in 2019 for over landing, found out later that they don't make the parts for it in the USA very much, Europe Australia sure all over the place In the US it's kind of Toyota or nothing and that sucks finding that out after the fact Comment from : Mycroft99 |
