I pay off my credit card every week and document every transaction on a basic checkbook app on my phone I have labeled "accounts" that reflect my budget for the week on the expense tracker so I see that number go down with every purchase Comment from : created4tomorrow |

Hi there I'm a new subscriber and I have decided to take coffee from home and a full water bottle That way I don't have to stop at a store on the way to my social events From Kingston Ontario Canada Comment from : Lola Simmons |

I have noticed recently especially with smaller establishments such as mom-and-pop places, that they are charging an additional fee if you use a debit or credit card This up- charge can be $300 to $500 That can add up quickly Cash is King!! Comment from : Debbie Murphy |

Awesome straight up truth! Thank you! Comment from : Jill Ridler |

Your advice is always on point! Too bad they don't hire someone as knowledgeable to teach this younger generation I had to learn how to be careful with my money the hard way as a young adult I'm still learning and trying to control my impulses Comment from : Vanessa R Morales |

Oh my gosh I feel so called out! 😂 I track all my checking account spending and think I’m doing so well without even paying attention to my frivolous cc spending! If I tracked that the way I do my checking I would be so ashamed in myself and reality hits hard! Thank you for this wake-up … I’m surrounded by stuff I don’t need now (emotional spender) It’s time for a change Thank you! Comment from : jlstiles_artist |

Excellent video It's always helpful to be reminded of these things I don't buy things I don't need and I stay within budget when I do spend, however, your video is encouraging because it confirms that one is on the right track Look forward to Friday's video Your videos are always worth watching God bless you both ❤ Comment from : Yvonne Hill |

Great share We personally use credit cards and debit cards primarily, but we enter everything manually into our budget and pay the balances in the same month to avoid interest 👍 Comment from : The Long Run with Joel and Christy |

I haven't had a credit card since my middle 20's Learned my lesson Not saying I still didn't buy non-essentials, but not as much because I was aware Thanks for giving these pointers Emmy & Paul! Glenda Comment from : G S Thompson |

Honestly, I don’t watch videos that tend to be less than 15 minutes For me, the video goes on in the background with me mainly listening than watching, while I’m working on a task I don’t have the time/attention commitment to look for something to watch after just a few minutes and something is already over I know you mentioned about the different video formatting and release style, and how that works for you And maybe as a viewer, I’m a minority, but I don’t watch these short videos I don’t look at youtube shorts either Just wanted to provide feedback from your viewer base Comment from : Florence Wood |
Most of the large credit card companies offer a feature where you can receive a text message each and every time anything is charged to your credit card I do this to stay on top of any fraudulent transactions, but it could be an eye opener for people who tend to spend too freely on non-essentials It's especially helpful if you have things on "subscription" that you may tend to forget about Comment from : Sherri Cunningham |
I actually use credit card intentionally to track my spending (along with tracking all spending in Every Dollar) If I use cash there’s no trail and I spend more that way… 😮 I guess it depends on where your source/reason for impulse buying stems from Seeing it in the credit card statement and in Every Dollar tracking makes me look at it more directly Thx for your videos! Been there years ago Figured it out and paid it of better pay more than minimum or Look Out Don't have one now Either save for what is needed or don't buy it It's even tighter now driving to my daughter to drive her to chemo Have lots of oh that would be nice but nope not getting it Did have to buy new shoes last week But that is a necessity Comment from : Patricia Sweet |
My tip if you spend too much because you are not on a tight budget is to open a higher interest bank account that rewards with higher interest if you don't withdraw for the month Put in money you would normally spend on rubbish each month for example $400 Dont touch it until you retire or save it for something fantastic like a round the world trip for the future This way you have less disposable income to fritter awayI have been doing this for the last sixteen years and will give it to my children when its time for a house deposit Comment from : Barbara Bruce |
i will always disagree with those who like the cash system I would either lose the cash, have it stolen, misplace it, or think I had more than I did With the credit card tally, I am always concerned about the total, so I check the bank at least once a week, and the credit card statement any time I have a question about why the total is rising too quickly I get credit card alerts to my phone I think people who can do Math in their head (approximate) do better with the credit cards, because they can pay them off every month, and earn perks Plus, try to rent a car without a credit card history I have an older friend who never had or used a credit card, made great money, retired, and was DENIED a rental car He had to get a credit card to rent the car Comment from : COFFEE CUP CONVERSATIONS |
I worked for over 40 years n did without so when retirement came I now have a steady stream of income and can live comfortably But once a saver, always a saver So I still watch my spending and make sure there is always $$ for that rainy day! Comment from : JANICE K |
A budget is useless if you never track your spendingbrbrYou have to know what you have coming in,and going outbrIf it's an irregular income, base it on the lowest amount of money you know you get Comment from : Rochelle Thundercloud |
Very truebrYes, I did get myself a treat ,a bag of potato chips, for $3 at aldibrbrNow,if I want something, I will ask ahead of time,so it goes into the budgetbrbrIf it's not in the budget,it has to waitbrOnly exceptions are necessary itemsbrCat foodbrLitterbrTrash bagsbrCleaning suppliesbrPersonal carebrGroceries,as long as it's not fancybrAll non essentials wait Comment from : Rochelle Thundercloud |

I’ve been sick, had surgery and have spent 2 separate days in the ER the last 3 weeks and have just realizedbrwe’ve had takeout many times and am in the process of tossing a lot of food that ought to have been frozen I wonder if you could come up with a strategy for someone in this situation? As far as credit cards go, I’ve paid mine off and refuse to use them anymore The terrible stress they caused wasn’t worth it Comment from : ColleenPsychicMedium |
Thank you for the reminder brMy dad & mom used to have those mini notebooks (handheld) to keep track of their spending Really wish they sat us down to go through bills & how much the 4 walls should be make of the net income Found out later in life that should be only 25 Comment from : Martha Mette |
I have used credit cards only since the pandemic hit because many stores refused paper money! However, I pay my cards off every month (or, I don't buy something if I thought I couldn't do this) The cards I use earn me points which can be used to purchase groceries That is my incentive for continuing to use these cards Thank you, Emmy, for another great video and tips! Blessings from Ontario, Canada! ❣ Comment from : Anne Manley |

Excellent points in this video! About a year ago, I decided I would only pay cash for items or use a gift card when purchasing online Even though it wasn't a tremendously high amount, I wanted to eliminate all previous credit card debt Now, I am almost debt-free and so thankful I decided to do that Comment from : Laura Kuehlke |
My husband and I pay every thing by credit card, but we pay it all off at the end of the month We also earn money every month Comment from : Edith Johnson |
Debit card seems a little better to use bc the money leaves the checking account right way I use it as a credit card and never have to use my password that way Comment from : M M |
Oh boy did I need to hear this today ! Just received my cc bill and did the red line exercise and holy smokes did I realize how many non essential purchases I made this month! Time to get back in control thank you for your tips Blessings Comment from : Gina Szwedko |
They tried to get me to open a charge card with them and I said hell no Been there before and do not want to ever go there again Comment from : Peggy Austin |
Did that just this week My refrigerator died and my stove had to be replaced because it was so old they could not get the parts for it anymore So I got a new frig and stove and I am making monthly payments with in my budget Comment from : Peggy Austin |

We pay everything possible with our credit card and pay the bill in full at the end of the month I check our balance online and know before I charge anything how much I can spend I have to use an expense tracker to keep in budget Thanks for sharing and take care Comment from : Linda F |
She is so right I was thinking of this the other day when I seen a Halloween store open up I told my husband when we were kids you dressed up in what you could put together and the costumes consisted of cat, witch, ghost, bum, gypsy, or monster So much is spent on costumes nowadays and other non-essentials It is always nice to get a reminder to use that pause botton Comment from : Rachel |
Hello there, I got into a bad habit of buying stuff online with husband's credit card (he was aware & didn't object) I thought "oh I'll sort that when the bill comes" When the bill arrives it's always a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul and I regret having to pay every time!! Comment from : Mrs H |
I have never had a credit card and where I can prefer to pay cash for a few reasons: I take out a set amount of "pocket money" for the week for things I may need in the week such as a pint of milk or some fresh fruit and that pocket money has to last all week, if it runs out it runs out Also when I hand over a £20 or a £10 (I'm from England in the UK and we work in pounds sterling) I look at that £20 or £10 and think about what I had to do to earn that £10 or £20 which makes me think more about whether I am buying is really necessary or whether it is an impulse buy It hasn't completely stopped impulse buying but it makes me think a lot more Thank you Emmy and Paul for your amazing content Comment from : Libby Bowyer |

There not their Misspelling Comment from : Celeste Gamache |

Great value ❤❤❤ 😊😊😊 Paul and Emmy Comment from : Wanda Hall |
When money was super tight for me, I carried a 3" x 5" card in my wallet with my paper money Every time I spent anything, I wrote it down and subtracted it like a checkbook register from my available cash It became obvious very quickly what my nonessential purchases were and I was able to make adjustments right away Comment from : Linda Budzik |
