i would extend my hand three quarters of the way making the shooter think i am fully extended and as she rises to shoot i rise that extra bit more and block her!

There’s a small issue with this tactic though, yes it could surprise the shooter and throw them off but if you have a more focused shooter they aren’t likely to get baffled Plus by stepping to the side you give them a clear view of the ring making their shot more accurate

I would never coach my defender to step to the side Note the second the defender steps to the side, the shooter has full view of the goal, hence she doesn't miss If she is going to step to the side,, the surprise would be to try and time a jump and tip as she steps to the side In this action , I would kore encourage my defender to put her second hand up over the ball and try and stay upright climb tall! Just my opinion
