I'm already seeing a lot of comments that the heat is from the blades being hot from the motor These motors are designed to have as little friction as possible but there is some heat generated by the bearings in the blade But don't worry, a better experiment was done than this with a spinning paddle wheel with no motor and the results were the same The Joule paddle wheel experiment! Did the water warm up from the motor? Comment from : oddron 86 |

Friction from the motor and blades adds heat too Bladeless circulator would give more real results I think Comment from : Cuneyt Meran |
Now i know how to boil water if i don't have other options Comment from : Strategist AOW3 |
At first I wasn't sure if it was going to boil, but since the square shape of the blender causes more splashing and friction than a circular one I've learned it's definitely possible I wonder if it would still work with a circular one though Comment from : boiled koolaid |
I did not imagine this would work at all Interesting! Comment from : bj0rn |
How long did the mixing take? Comment from : MrWang420 |

Yeah but that's not mixing Heat that's electrical engine overworking heat you see what I'm saying? bryou know that the motor got hot and warmed it upbrit was not mixing heat AKA friction of blades on water Comment from : James Yaun |

Thanks to Michael Bolton for the suggestion Comment from : Jek |

Well youre not supposed to put boiling liquids in a blender because they can rapidly aerate and explode the all over the place, but I think if you boiled the water by blending youre probably ok lolbrbrHow long did this take vs a water kettle to boil the same amount? Comment from : Jek |
I've seen pool variable speed pumps heat the water to be scalding hot in just a matter of minutes The impeller in them reaches 3450 RPM The water was so hot it made the PVC deform Take that for what you will Comment from : Peter Kallend |
Tired after a minute of mixing?brDon't try baking without an automatic mixer!br(Some times you gotta mix batter for a few minutes while it thickens it's a workout!) Comment from : Dancing Equilibrium |

how much heat transfer from motor through spindle Comment from : John Christie |
The motor heat warmed it from the base of the blender Comment from : Slang |
Really amazing experiment! But the mixer blades and the motor heat up too and the thermal energy transfers to water from the blades Maybe it would reduce the extraneous variables such as this one, to design a setup, in which the water is in a metal sphere and the sphere is rotating non-axially in a vacuum :D Comment from : Berrak Karun |
I feel bad for that blender tho Comment from : ARandomHouseInWoods |

try stirring water that is already boiling :) Comment from : thesnare100 |

There is an appliance company WOLF that makes a commercial type blender with a soup mode In the soup mode it uses the blades to agitate the liquid soup to produce enough heat to make it boil Being soup it is thicker than water and will boil a lot faster than having water alone with no contents mixed in The liquid is heated up simply from the friction of the blades moving at the very high RPM and motor torque There are a number of high end blenders available that have enough motor power and speed to be able to boil liquids from the spinning of their blades brbrThe high end WOLF bender has a peak 24 HP motor (near 1700 Watt motor) In this mode the blade tips spin at over 210 mph There is no heating element involved, or any heat radiated from the blades themselves The liquid is heated simply from the high speed friction involved Comment from : JerryFacts |

The man who boiled water by stirring it , wow Comment from : A little bit of everything official |
The heat was coming from the friction of the blade I'm sure water does heat up while being mixed, but you can clearly see when it's boiling that the bubbles are coming from the blade Comment from : Jeffresh |

will it blend? thats the question Comment from : sweeetburn |

Some of the heat could be coming from the mechanical friction of the blendtech, no? Comment from : Stewart Mackay |
Would have been even cooler if you managed to boil it with human power! Maybe like a stationary bike hooked up to a gear reduction drive to a whisk Like, does a human have enough energy to boil water, even with all of the mechanical advantage you could get? I'm guessing probably not Comment from : Bu Jin |

3:13 but when you blend anything, it would become hot It gets some heat from the machine as well right?brbrbrYou can try with frozen fruits and some fruit juice (less water content) Comment from : Raja Ram |
Comment from : yeetman64 |
This is nonsense! This would have been impossible in my original universeThis Action Lab video didn't exist The water is used for cooling where I come from The water absorbs heat, not produce it Don't you have radiators over here? Comment from : MeanTuber |
That temperature rising can be for the blender's bearings gettin hot Comment from : amin2307 |
Cool how the sped up footage of blender sounds like water boiling! Comment from : Nima Master |
You can not cut water but u can kill it Comment from : VelvetRed |
Interesting, i do see the logic behind thid experiment however I would love for you to retry the experiment but dont use a blender, all i keep thinking wile you were blending the water was the motor shaft of the blender is it connected metal to metal with the blades of the blender? If so could it be that alot of that heat came from condencing the blade? Dont get me wrong i still belive water can boil when you mix it fast enough, but this one here it just seem like the condencing of the motor shaft help it ALOT Comment from : Moon Night |
I dont think this experiment was silly, i think it was well done Maybe not perfect, but well done none the less And i dont think the heat transfer from the motor to the blades was significant because if it was an ordinary blender would do the same thingbrbrAnd how do the blades connect to the motor? A gear underneath? And is this gear plastic? This may not conduct heat as well as the metal further negating the impact Comment from : Marvelous Software |
you want to have more stable level of water, for vertical movement of water is movement throw air, which cools, but horizontal movement is friction of water against water which make it hot, like hand if moving not against hand but air - cools, so do water Comment from : sidjoo sin |
Another example of this effect is the heating of hydraulics on heavy machinerybrAlot of the power from prime mover is converted to heat by pumpbrHave also seen heavy equipment yard made a steam cleaner from a pump Comment from : Grant Huckstep |
Have seen this effect many times on engine dynometerbrBench dyno and rolling road with water brakebrBasically a pump to load the motor Comment from : Grant Huckstep |
no because the tranfser of heat from the metal parts act as is heating the water and if the water vapour cant escape it heats up brbrdo the same expeiment using a wooden spoon or something less heat conductive to mix the water 👍🤣🤣 Comment from : Scott Essex |
Excellent Comment from : Apratim Mandal roll 6 class7 VIDYA |
I'm a middle school teacher and our students are learning that temperature really is a measure of the speed of the molecules Would this be an example of the molecules speeding up to create the temperature or is it purely this idea of water friction? Comment from : Chris Pautler |
No way Comment from : eamonia |
