OMG! I was a teacher for over 26 years and during that time several counselors came to our school(and left) I have seen only 1 good guidance counselor during that time

When I came out to my parents, they didn't know how to deal with it We all agreed that I should go to therapy I thought we meant like real therapist Nope Homophobic church therapist Of course, my parents didn't do it on purpose, but it really sucked Instead of helping me deal with it, she tried to talk me out of it "Boys and girls fit together like a puzzle piece, girls and girls don't" (actual quote) It was basically a private Sunday school After the first session, the only thing we did were activities about how much Jesus loves me I told her some stuff about how I'd known I was gay for about a year and other things that I'd trusted her with Come to find out, she'd told my parents everything I quit after three or four sessions This was about threeish years ago and I never found another therapist My friend, who's also bi (I was lesbian when I came out, but I've liked a boy since), is basically my gay counselor, and I'm his lol

My guidance counselor was supposed to help me with my over-eating disorder and all she did was pull me out of class to talk to me about unrelated things 💖 I stopped going, and I eat less now, but she still sucks Still on the mend from the disorder too ❤️‍🩹

I’ve had a similar experience my brother died when I was in second grade and my school doesn’t have a guidance counselor so I was relying on my friends and teachers to comfort me and I always felt like nobody understood what was actually going on in my life

my mom died last year and after 3 months my dad told me i was holding myself back from moving forward, that i was the reason i had depression i am happy to say that he no longer thinks like that (his mom has also passed so he obv knows the grieving process but still messed up to say it was probably bc he only grieved for a couple weeks before he had to go back to work)

Some people are just pieces of shit When I was 16, one of my brothers died on the morning of my other brother's wedding My brother's bride was upset at me for not being outwardly happy at the wedding Well, excuse me for grieving the loss of my other brother I've never been able to mask my emotions and put on a straight face Like, it JUST fucking happened and you want me to suck it up and get over it?? Death is not something you can just move on from The loss of a loved one never truly goes away Some days are harder than others, and every one grieves differently Grief doesn’t just go away like magic either You just learn to make room for it in your heart Telling anyone to just move on like that, especially to a grieving child is horrifying to me The grieving process has no time limit, why the f*** did your counselor think that was in any way ok to say?
