The fact that it sold at auction for $15,000 means, no private buyer would pay $15k at a store Furthermore no private buyer would buy an unknown person popping up at a forum or ebay lol br brGet it graded takes two to three months, what dealer is going to pay $15k none, $12k none as well as that is likely what a dealer can charge after holding on to it for few months to a years br brDealer will need to make 15, to pay for over heads lease, electricity and sales commisions to staff and want about $2000 profits too br brBack down to $8000 to $8500

It's only worth $15k if there is a buyer out there willing to pay that amount so I am not sure if he really got 'screwed' for accepting $8k Uber rare coins like that can be quite illiquid and it can take a while to find an enthusiast willing to pay the exact estimated value On the other hand some items constantly fetch more than their estimated value I would be interested to see someone bring in an original low numbered copy of The White Album by The Beatles The ones numbered below 100 almost always fetched more than the estimated value

At most it's going to take 100 dollars to get this coin graded and put in a capsule by ngc or pcgs If it's comes back improperly cleaned you just take it out and sell it as the coin alone The sucker buying it won't know the difference The dude who sold it got gypped, should've walked away
