No, it's not the measure of value added to the lives of other people It's a measure of how much or how many other people valued that service, product or labor It's a popularity contest, not a moral measure Jeezus Every job I ever lost was because of someone or multiple people not liking me My teachers didn't like me so I didn't get the support I needed Women didn't usually like me too much, so I only had a few girlfriends The Kardashians, who objectively detract from the value of other people, are worth millions? Billions? We choose our leaders off of popularity Sometimes on the most shallow standards imaginable So I mean, life is just one big popularity contest I hate popularity contests and now you're gonna come on here and tell me there's an objective morality to this shitshow? Get outta here

I personally think that there’s no inherent ethics in capitalism because it’s an economic system not an ethical or spiritual system and that’s what makes it great as an economic system because it’s not a totalizing ideology
Comment from : Simon Petrikov 39

Trading in stocks serves a crucial function in helping to adjust the valuations of companies to their true productivity faster, and in helping companies grow and investbrbrAnd the sad truth is that some people are a net negative on society, and help toward them should be trying to make them contributors instead of just enabling thatbrbrBecoming rich without ethical merit centrally comes from getting rich by the political means, violating the rights of others, like selling weapons to a government funded by taxationbrbrTariffs only hurt the domestic population and the foreigners they would do business with at the behest of a connected crony: a textbook definition of that unethical political meansbrbrMore subjectively you could say it isn't ethical to be a tobacco producer despite it being something people want to buy due to the negative effects of tobaccobrbrThe incentive problem is part of why Communism fails, but the central reason is the socialist calculation problem: without market prices in the means of production and the products there is no rational way to organize an economy

I'd like to see a video done by you on taxes Personally, I think income and property taxes are unethical This comes from the viewpoint of a small scale farmer We've had the farm in the family for generations, and if it weren't for property tax, we would never need a "day job", because the farm would feed us and pay for itself

The reason why Communists say that "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" is because the ones telling people that are making bank and try to obfuscate the fact that the successful one the like the "Breadtubers" who bring in six figure salaries is that they do not really perform work for others, most of what they provide is snake oil and somehow through them, their audience by listening to them and there is no real value that they add to the viewers' life outside of some blase social commentary Even the more insightful and entertaining among them like Hbomberguy really pad their content out or are simply edgy to add shock value to what they make outside of some fairly mundane talking points They talk about exploitation but at least when it comes to the capitalists owning and operating factories, they actual produce useful products

Just had a thought Is the surplus labor theory why we now have marxists claiming that by them destroying city blocks they are fixing society? They view their violence & destruction as laborthus “value”

n8sfolly
I agree with all of what you presented here You did miss a central issue, at least one I see, but I am no expert I think what fundamentally leads to issues is that wealth can be passed on to someone who has not, and has no desire to, affect the lives of others through their own labor or efforts This can give people the impression that money, and it's inherent power, is patriarchal Wealth disparity appears to increase over time, and lead to a class system I imagine that this would be due to the access to power that wealth generates, so that over time the wealthy can change more rules to benefit those with wealth over those without What do you think could be a solution to the long term trends we have seen?
Comment from : n8sfolly

Something New
I would argue that trading stocks does in fact, add value to the economy (if done correctly) Like, without stock trades, one would be stuck holding stocks that they got from either founding or funding or working for a company and they wouldn't be able to sell unless the company was willing/able to buy it back, which isn't always the case Public stock trading, or even internal private stock trading within a company, inherently makes stock more liquid and frees the company from needed enough cash on hand to be able to cash out their employees/founders/funders shares It also is a distributive service like any other trade, someone values something more, I value it less, so I trade it to them for cash which I can either put back into the market with something I do value or put it into my life Structural additions to the economy are really hard to see, but if one is added or removed it is bpalpably/b felt by everyone

So you believe that it should be acceptable to work for more than 40 hours a week for gradually reducing wages and gradually increasing costs of products?brEach generation is poorer than the last and the divide between classes is widening further with each passing year so that the poor will stay poor and the rich will stay rich, and crossing that divide is not something you can achieve working a 9-5brTo get rich, you must already be rich To get richer is to make labourers work for many hours at inhumanely low rates, because as long as everyone pays workers low rates they have no choice but to accept a bad deal to survive, since nobody wants to spend most of their waking moments working for a job they don't care about for barely enough money to survive because that's demeaningbrLook at amazon and Jeff Bezos - he is the richest man to have ever lived because amazon dodges taxes entirely (labourers working for amazon independantly pay more money in tax than the company they work for), the workers are paid the bare minimum and they're so scared to take breaks (to which they are supposed to be entitled) that they just don't and have been known to pee in bottles out of fear of going for a bathroom breakbrHaving vast amounts of money does not relate to good morals, it relates to having no morals at allbrbrOh, and using things like the USSR as examples of socialism isn't worthwhile, as the USSR suffered from capitalist greed im higher ranks and they ran a totalitarian reigeme and any totalitarian reigeme is doomed to failbrLate stage capitalism is causing people to choose death over bankrupting their family to basic medical needs To be forced into renting your entire life because the rich hold the housing market so can charge whatever they like for you to just live For wages to stay the same but demands of labour to constantly increase to the point where we're producing a higher production output at cost of ourselves yet getting nothing in return except the threat that reducing to where we were would result in loss of employmentbrSo, tell me again how you believe money is something moral?

Capitalism is the only system that works and is non-coercive, thats why I will support it But it has massive ugly sides You will never get rich by playing the game fair (always lobby, always tax evade, always look for goverment grants, always try to play the system, nobody will get rich by working hard in the coal mine) Also the free market while is free regulating its also incredibly stupid Value is relative and thats why some people values are just worse, you dont talk about people tastes because some people have bad taste, lets be honest People are free to use their money as they want and thats why they use it wrong half the time Get a team of marketing specialists and manipulate everything to shit if you can (in good pr words its called maximising profits and customer satisfaction, yeah, by exploiting metadata and psychological laws) Freedom is good, but most people will use their freedom in an evil (or just much less than optimal) way and we have absolutely no way of stopping that I guess its the absurd of freedom and capitalism, lol
Comment from : The Saival

Sk0lzky
"Relative to the market" market value technically doesn't exist since market itself doesn't value anything, and people this concept represents change how they value things constantly so it's impossible to make a proper approximation of an average one What we refer to as "market value" is rather an estimated price of a product for which it is/can be sold on the marketbrbrPS Your video and examples are a bit oversimplified (eg there are factors other than hard work deciding if your business is successful) but on the basic level yeah, it's pretty much how this shit works brbrPPS There is an argument for immorality of money especially in modern fiscal system which requires tons of work and resources to produce and sustain money, allows insane manipulations and produces comparably low value itself (I mean money itself does create a lot of value but in the way it works right now the time, possibilities, and comfort it provides is not as high as the aggregate cost of its production and keeping the system safe and operational)
Comment from : Sk0lzky

Rayleigh Slivers
I agree that money represents how much a person contributed to the society But i still believes that the system can be exploited and it is exploited by having a monopoly on things Its a free market, anyone can become a competitors however if one has a monopoly on that product, one can simply buy them out and continue there bad service And with no competitors left, normal people have to rely on that business alone hence the believe "two people exchanging labour for money is exploitative" the other person is a company
Comment from : Rayleigh Slivers

Satchmo Omega
Because value is determined by markets, and markets are generally controlled by elite players it can't be a characterised of some abstraction of "making people's lives better" Most transactions in the modern world have an extreme power difference between the two parties and value is determined by what the more powerful party can get away with Say for example all the land owners in a city decided to raise the rent on their properties That would mean that their tenants would have to spend a greater proportion of their income on rent and thereby "removing" value from their own work Or a an industrial process that puts carcinogens into the surrounding area, it "removes" value from the land and people living around it The owner could clean up the process, but why would they if it costs them value? You could say that this is "value vampirism"brbrbrCapitalism is neither inherently moral nor immoral, what matters is the morality of the party with the power Often power is inversely correlated with morality Shit rises to the top It's why we get things like the Subprime Mortgage Crisis of the late 2000s Unfortunately power is also inversely correlated with facing consequences when your actions have cause great harm to individuals and society We desperately need mechanisms for holding the elites accountable, whether it is government or grassroots But that is really hard to do even in a free democracybrbrbrYour narrative of "rich people are rich because they made people's lives" better is naive at best, and malignant at worst

Thank you, this hit the nail on the headbrI also like to point out that money is a bplaceholder/b for value, which is why "the love of money is the root of all evil" - as opposed to money itself As a religious person, our goals are to worship or chase the value, not the placeholder which loses its value under any system that neglects the importance of adding value to each others' livesbrbrThis is the same reason giving money to homeless guys on the street is fundamentally better for society than paying the same amount in taxes

Trading stocks provides a service Long story short, it smoothes out prices keeping markets fluid The big money is never made by trading, since the market is almost a zero sum game The big bucks in trading are made by trading other people's money for a fee You never take a risk and lie to people to their face about their prospects to get more ppl "investing" People need to know about how they can realistically earn a profit on the stock market and simply stating "you can get rich by trading in stocks" is statistically wrong

Capitalism isn't exploitative, GOVERMENT is incompitent Commies point out how wages never grew but the cost of things did Yes, because nobody is stopping the inflation of costs- economies all over the world are running on debt, and are too busy to focus on a economic plan to pull themselves out of the mess we're in
Comment from : Tac_Reso

IWillBecomeImmortalOrDieTrying
so as i understand it: the morality of money is in the recognition of labour done, not the morality of the labour itself for example its a moral good to pay someone to be committing crimes for you even if the service being paid for is immoral the act of paying for you labour is moral not necessarily the labour itself thats what i got out of this video anyway

I think that what a lot of people have an issue with is the heredity of money, if capitalism was purely merit based and lower class people were given the exact same starting position as the rich, I think a lot of commies would have less complaints, except for the ones that are the pure embodiment of laziness

6:05 my grandfather had a stake in Gold Hill Oregon Guess where it got its name this alluvial stream filled with gold, and now due to environmental factors you can't mine for it I spent six hours one day as a five-year-old boy freezing my butt off in this alluvial stream panning for gold with my grandfather back in 1980 or so, and when I got all the gold that I collected he weighed it, and said I made about $14 These were tiny little flecks that shine in the Sun so magnificently I can't describe it, and my grandpa said you made about $14 I have kept that vial of gold ever since and just staring into those oddly-shaped flecks of alluvial gold is the most beautiful thing you'll ever see, and also it gave me the fever The fever is real! The moment you look at natural gold something changes in you Maybe Zecharia Sitchin is right, and the Anunnaki genetically engineered us to love gold

It's always amazing to me when leftist minded people will tell me that I'm voting against my own interest if I vote for a conservative As though the end goal of voting is to make sure your grab the most shit for yourself instead of building the best government that would benefit the most people, even if those people aren't you They don't seem to understand the morality of voting for the country you want to live in rather than voting for the one that would make life easiest for you personally

iAMsuperBlast
The first thing I thought of when imagining exploitive ways to gain money Essentially gaining money without doing any good is con artists Tricking people into thinking they are gaining something by spending their labor but actually don't get anything and in fact lose outbrbrAnd that line of thought has me wondering why some things are illegal Or rather why the government decides something is bad And it's bad because it has been decided that something will cause more harm to society than good Think illicit drugs for example Sure selling them is providing a service And people who buy them think they are gaining something of value but in fact they are gaining something that will eventually destroy them Causing them to be unproductive to society and ultimately do more harm than good Thus it is illegalbrbrNow I get the feeling things are quite a bit more complicated than that, but it makes sense to me

Esvent of a0th
I'm all in favor of capitalism, however, that doesn't necessarily mean:brbr1 A fiat currency system that robs everyone via inflationbr2 A big government controlled system where you are a Social Security Number, and must present that number to do this and that, according to US Code § 666br3 A global labor market that destroys the value of our own labor, compared to cheaper labor overseas from a different people with different lawsbr4 Corporatocracy regulations that make it very difficult for anyone to compete in the market with pre-established mega-corporationsbr5 Taxes are higher now than they were when the founding fathers revolted against England, some of it goes to foreign countries like Israel, some of it goes to illegal immigrants, and the bulk of it goes to a military that will NEVER defend against the domestic enemies we have in our country right now, despite the oath they took (because they take orders from domestic enemies when they infiltrate our government)brbr…and so onbrbrHow about we try an actual free market capitalist system for a change Remove all the evil globalist shit, go back to how the founding fathers intended things to be run (with modern age morality, no slaves and such), and maybe capitalism might not seem so evil

In theory the concept makes sense But, I think we have reached an era where capitalism has created an investment class that is largely unattainable by the average citizen There is no labor created This has been described as the financialization of the economy The very few instances mentioned of high profit return on labor are small instances, not the norm, or even comparible to financial return on capital investment

The fact he equates a practical profession to a vapid one such as teachers and actors, seriously, and in the way he does it NobrHe says the actor is more rich because they influence more people than the teacher That implies they both impact people equally, in the same way; which is absurd Famous people are more wealthy because we PERCEIVE them that way Also, speaking of the good/bad actors and how they are punished financially if they don't "influence" enoughbrLets try using that with teachers? Cause last I checked good and bad teachers got paid equally And in fact the good teachers are punished more, since they usually end up spending more of their own money to get their students extra resources Its pretty fucked Yet this guy talks like its some simple easy to compare thingbrbrbrIts not
