Why gold that is lower in the periodic table is less reactive than its group-mate, copper? Comment from : Kaveh |
Should a technology for mining gold from deep within the earth or the outer space become available, the very many governments would probably sabotage it Comment from : j7ndominica0 |
The CC mistakes are hilarious Comment from : DestroyerOfWombs |
7:34 yay me Comment from : ThePhase20 |
@Inritus618 Gold is also used in sim cards for your mobile phones Comment from : Tom Coops Broad |
Granted you wouldn't have it very long, but alpha particles aren't very penetrative and can be stopped by your skin so it wouldn't be very harmful at all, unless you ate it Comment from : Tom Coops Broad |
Gold is used in some electronics (mainly, I believe, in plugs) because it is malleable and can form a more complete contact At least, that's why I think it's used Comment from : ArchdukeTyler |
But they are transition metals, I didn't learn about them Comment from : Tony Ching |
It's not a coincidence, elements that are similar line up on the table Comment from : Objects in Motion |
"Congratulations! You won the Olympics! Here, have some radiation poisoning" Comment from : blackcat19 |
what a coincidence that the three elements are lined up in the same column Comment from : Tony Ching |
a medal made of Roentgenium would be badass until it killed you ;-; Comment from : Ford Prefect |
YE, CANADA Comment from : Jason MacPhee |
i love these videos but really it shouldn't take like 6 minutes to show that the atomic mass rises down the group Comment from : Gimp Doctor |
"You can't tell anyone!" 74 thousand views Comment from : RubyGoldberg |
Also, there are professional video systems (2K and 4K resolutions) using 75Ohm coax cable to transfer an HD-SDI video signal, and where there isn't enough bandwidth, a second cable or even four cables are used to transfer the necessary amount of data And that equipment has about a 50ms delay from signal propagation to projection It is just a matter of equipment reliable and sensitive enough to combine those video feeds into something intelligible Comment from : Thor214 |
Nope Copper is more than good enough for video signals If such a high data rate is needed, it will likely involve optical fiber Comment from : Thor214 |
Kawpah Comment from : RiaRadioFMHD773 |
Yah, it will be a "one in a lifetime" event for the winner, the loser, the judges and those conducting the medal ceremony Comment from : ShiroiKage009 |
No, Brady made an edit, so the second one is actually 30 Comment from : Ragnhild |
it sounds like he counted 13 twice because he missed one Comment from : waldosan |
I think manufacturers of high-end electronics and cables that use gold realize it's not the best but it has high appeal to people because of how gold is valued and looked upon Most people just assume it's a great conductor since it's used in "high-end" electronics and listed as a "feature" Comment from : AluminumStudios |
"So now, we need 118 neutronswhew" Comment from : Brandon Fisher |
All science is either physics or rock collecting? Comment from : Verandure |
@SuperShiningSun Yea, the common ones, motherboards and other high tech stuff use gold Comment from : surferboy36O |
@SuperShiningSun Ok, it makes sense for contacts that suffer wear, but in a mother board for eg there's no need cause all the tracks are protected against moisture, why not use silver instead?? It's cheaper! Comment from : surferboy36O |
I thought gold was more conductive than silver!? That's why it's used in high tech circuit boards and contacts Comment from : surferboy36O |
What is with the cross at 2:48 next to the bottom number of the copper and silver elements? Comment from : DarrylG |
@SSJkiller f***ing trolls!!! Comment from : Matt C |
Why the dislikes? Comment from : Dopamine |
@dynamltedoug I figured that you don't have enough replies on this
He missed the beaker It just bounced off the rim Comment from : Caphits |
Roentgenium medals is something I considered before Now I know I'm not a weirdo Comment from : Mystery Ranger |
@jcyeahful Depleted uranium is U-238, which has a half-life of billions of years So there's no reason to worry about a medal of it decaying any time soon Comment from : WeaselWJ |
it will be good ven 1 place wil have aloy of gold silver and coper Comment from : Ivica Nastic |
Some special edition Canadian maple leaf gold coins are actually 9999999 gold (5 nines rather than the usual four), I'm Canadian and quite proud we make coins with the purest gold in the world
Actually that would be an interesting video to have showing how Canadian gold is made so pure and why other countries don't bother to make their gold as pure I have heard it involves chlorine or cyanide I'm not sure which, I think it's chlorine Comment from : David Hughes |
@dynamltedoug he missed the glass :) Comment from : hanzithaking |
@dynamltedoug hahaha well maybe he just didnt drop the rock? Comment from : Syphillips |
@dynamltedoug oh shit! (only he would say sheet) Comment from : Midnighter169 |
@Sakamachi25 lol :D Comment from : KoolKidKarl2k8 |
@1993gandy cept for hydrogen, but that would suck as a medal Comment from : Ricky Lahey |
@dynamltedoug he counted thirteen twice because the first rock hit the rim and bounced out Comment from : HighlordSarnex |
@twilight1138 yes indeed once in a life time because your life is about to end after receiving it XD Comment from : ben c |
me want one made of ununtritium :D fits to mah name ftw Comment from : Ethernet3 |
yea TO SUFFER FOR THEIR FAILURES! Comment from : toonyiesttoons |
Onions are yellow (in their skins), and the other name for roentgenium is unununium So yeah Comment from : MattOGormanSmith |
hey what color would roentgenium be? yellow? :D Comment from : cheshire |
never mind got it Comment from : ssnp |
where does it say the neutrons are? Comment from : ssnp |
that would be awesome :) Comment from : ParkEx |
Faster i think, but I love unuinunium Comment from : Ze Rubenator |
It would decay in a couple minutes Comment from : Cesotoseot |
How'bout an unununium medal? Comment from : Ze Rubenator |
lol pause at 7:44 for a sick face:P Comment from : JaksProductions |
By the sound of the beaker, I think that it might have bounced out when he counted 13 the first time Comment from : radishpineapple74 |
LOL ^^ Comment from : Den Uil |
that counting rocks in a beaker thing was "really quite" boring Comment from : Joe |
No problem You can read the 'Stellar evolution' or 'Stellar nucleosynthesis' pages on Wikipedia if you want to learn more Comment from : radishpineapple74 |
The heaviest elements that can be formed in normal stars are iron and nickel, because these have the highest nuclear binding energy and no further energy can be released by adding nucleons in fusion Comment from : radishpineapple74 |
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! It's not just him, it's everyone "Really quite dangerous," "really quite lovely," "really quite nice," "really quite hard," "really quite bloody annoying that we say 'really quite' all the time"
Good videos otherwise, though :o) Comment from : ElveeKaye |
I would make a drinking game called "TAKE A SHOT EVERY TIME THE SHORT HAIRED GUY SAYS "REALLY QUITE"", but I don't want alcohol poisoning Comment from : Buoy2 |
Its not that strange, its all diffrent levels of energy really Comment from : Findulidas |
The activity series of metals Its very close or is the bottom of the series, so it does not displace other metals in reactions Comment from : Paul Beamish |
i wonder what roentgenium would look like Comment from : Michael Lewis |
I feel smarter just watching these vids Comment from : dnaenterprises1 |
Comment from : Corgin |
technically if u bombard a bigger element with particles, you can knock a chunk out of them forming an atom Comment from : hooh3923 |
You ARE joking right? People have been mining copper for thousands of years! I think you just "pwnt" yourself Comment from : Saighduir |
so interesting! you talked about many things i absolutely didnt know (i wish you analyzed/compared the three elements more chemically though) and its bond to be on my final test because of the olympics, just like you said so that really helped me, thank you! Comment from : hollymoon21 |
Cooper is a good heat conductor hence using it for cooper cores in CPU's Comment from : Shawn Buchanan |
Cooper is mined didn't you ever study the Periodic Table in High school Bronze is made from tin and cooper Bronze in not on the Periodic Table Comment from : Shawn Buchanan |
Bronze was used in weapons, armor, mirrors, and art during ancient times The process of SMELTING has been known for over a thousand years Comment from : F2L4Life |
Copper IS in fact mined You "pwnt" yourself Also, remember hearing about the "Bronze Age"? People have been long melting down copper and tin for Bronze Comment from : TheMetalhead08 |
it called melting jackass its not rocket science and copper is mined there are many old one around where i live Comment from : Tejota624 |
I hope your being sarcastic Copper is indeed an element that is mined Also, you don't need highly advanced technology to make Bronze You melt the two down and combine them Comment from : isaelia |
very interesting ^^ Comment from : Tracy H |
Huh, interesting Thanks for the information! Comment from : maekern |
Well explained, I enjoied it Comment from : KanineKruizer |

Btw Bronze was first used by the Sumarians in Mesopotamia So
Pwn't? Comment from : Ricky Pena |
playing with stones again eh? Comment from : rapster |
sonze, bilver, sold and gilver? Comment from : kester lyddon |
Try spelling Bullion and Krugerrand Comment from : Robert Tressell |
I may be wrong but I believe this sort of thing is why many computer cooling systems use copper to move heat away from a hot chip, but use an aluminium heat sink to disperse the heat into the air The copper is a somewhat better conductor of heat, but the aluminum doesn't form a insulating layer of corrosion when exposed to the air
Of course I may be totally wrong, in which case I'd love for someone to tell me Comment from : maekern |
I very much like this series, and I applaud you folks for keeping it up and adding new videos Thank you! Comment from : maekern |
@7:30
when hes talking about gold he mentions "we're all familiar with the term buliand and cruganand"
ive got no idea what that is, if anyone knows pls let me know, feel abit stupid now, i tried to do a google search and didnt find anything, perhaps due to mis-spelling Comment from : j40505 |
I think it is yes, but the price makes it prohibitive to use in wiring or electrical items etc, i think gold is the best conductor Comment from : YTEngineer |
You'd make a good highschool teacher Comment from : HigherPlanes |
welsh gold is rather historical---just like the Tree Tops practicing Kaw-Liga by hank williams just search the Tree Tops + kaw liga Comment from : Derek Kern |
