When we got engaged in 1972, my ring set was called the Love Bug Special, and cost $100 Tiny stone that required illusion to make it look bigger Forty seven years later, my rings had worn thin on the palm side and the prongs of the Tiffany style setting were worn off When we went to leave them to be refurbished, my husband surprised me by buying a larger stone to replace the old one, and we had the little stone set into his wedding band OTOH, I've known several divorces after the engagement started with a two carat diamond

I sold bridal jewelry for awhile several years ago If you want to know the cost of the item divide by three If the tag on the ring says $3600 the cost on it was $1200 That is why there has never ever in the history of jewelry been a ring that has sold at the suggested retail and you will always find at least a 25 discount Even at 25 off the price is $2700 with a whopping $1500 profit Lot's of room to negotiate don't be fooled and don't buy on credit Jewelry stores are notorious for pushing credit

Who cares if the ring increases in value? When do you plan on selling your wedding ring? It is the biggest waste of money It is supposed to be meaningful not expensive Who are you trying to impress? I own a precious metals and diamond buying business Since I got into this business I have learned one HUGE thing about jewelry stores Their job is to RIP YOU OFF and they're very good at it! Their mark up is any where from 800 to 1000! Don't do business with these people unless you're so wealthy you know you're being robbed, played for a fool and you simply don't care I recommend you shop at pawn stores, consignment stores or estate sales where you can negotiate the price Take a diamond expert with you! It amazes me how people hear the word diamond and think money, value, wealth Not always true

I picked out my ring, small and inexpensive, we just wanted to get married, I didn't care He ended up getting the slightly bigger/nicer version, but still only spent about 2 weeks of his income at the time I love my ring, and its a constant reminder of our values and goals we've set together So silly to spend so much I know a couple that spent $25,000 on just the diamond and not the set, and another with a $60,000 ring unbelievable! And no they don't have THAT much money All I think about is all the things I could put that money towards! lol
