The second picture wasn't actually better than the first It only had more detail, but still sucked The proportions are wrong and there is no talent underlying it

The Blinking up of „the Secret“ at around 1:25 when talking about a book that tries to put so little information into a big book is just Gold! ❤

1 Metalearning - Mapping out your Journey, why, what and how, starts in beginning but repeats whenever (5-10 of total time)br2 Focus - how alert you are, focus and avoid procrastination br3 Directness - do what's important directly, and asses what you need the skill forbr4 Drill - Identifying and removing bottlenecks (what are not good at, and what's key to progression)br5 Retrieval - Keep testing ability to make brain properly process information Feymam Technique, writing out what you can remember, flashcards, rephrasing what you've read or making challenge questions while readingbr6 Feedback - Whenever you test yourself receive feedback ASAP, you have to attempt to ask questions and access feedbackbr7 Retention - How not to forget what you've learnedbr8 Intuition - True understanding of the topic, being honest with yourself and what you know and don't know, don't give up on hard problems east, prove things to understand things, concrete examples > abstract one, don't be a dunning kruger, use Feyman, (Write Concept, Write an explanation, go back to the book when stuck) explanation grants intuitive topicbr9 Experimentation - as skill develops educational research diminishes, at the peak of performance, experts develop unique styles, experiment to find own part

the examples portrayed, such as van Gogh, is a real disappointment brHad you actually given a SKILLED artist as an example, such as Bernini, one could consider your arguments worth more For the example is better Van Gogh is recognisable, regarded as unique (even though it isn't), and has a tragic story But the dude didn't master actual skills Most of those 'qualities' are actually a result of his incompetence those are qualities, like water is wet, or rocks are hard They do not convey a high standard or anything of a elevated school of thought his incompetence does actually add to his tragic story in a way and also adds to exemplifying the ridiculousness of modern art and the idiotic standards one uses nowadays to measure 'high quality' and 'skill'
Comment from : thieverytree

thieverytree
Van Gogh actually is very bad at painting don't even mention his use of 'proportions' BUT, he does manage to capture a certain passion and appreciation of color and texture I do like many of his works, even though I also dislike many of his works But one cannot refer to his works as 'skilled' or 'technical' NOR as 'the greatest paintings in the world' with those qualities in regard Those works of his are only 'the greatest' because that is what benefits the pricetag the most He didn't really learn much nor mastered much he is simply: recognisable (and exclusive with a tragic story) and that sells
Comment from : thieverytree

thieverytree
there ARE styles considered better than others by ACTUAL artists who are worth their saltbrOne should not compare Andy Warholl to Gian Lorenzo Bernini For one was a mediocre graphic designer that managed to play the marketing game well, all the way up to becoming the prima marketing tool himself: his 'modern' persona and his 'quirkiness' and such And the actual artist, Bernini, was ACTUALLY very very capable of making fantastically difficult works that one CANNOT produce without years and years of practice and experience and perhaps even a touch of something immaterial, be it the perfect genes for that specific task or 'a devine hand' at play Andy Warholl sells for way more but that price-tag shouldn't depict the dept, or lack thereof, of real world brilliance
Comment from : thieverytree

thieverytree
Scott Young learned to draw les bad in a month that's not remarkable the drawing still stinks to be honest coming from a dude who actually can draw photo realistically

Sinx
I disagree with one thing While it is true that native speakers of most languages will be able to understand a learner despite having bad pronunciation, it’s also true that vocabulary is inherently tied to pronunciation Most language learners neglect pronunciation which leads to them solidifying bad habits, and having to unlearn bad pronunciation is a lot more difficult than learning good pronunciation early on In this case, the main bottleneck when talking in your target language is still vocab, but if you’re ever planning on getting to a proficient level, you’ll save yourself a lot of trouble in the long run by focusing on building good pronunciation habits

What if you do all it says and you are still not achieving? Is it like faith healing - 'you didn't believe hard enough' (Love your work by the way and beautifully presented as always) Just need to be a bit careful with this kind of stuff as it can be extremely harmful to mental wellbeing

Comment from : Manny Bernabe

Jay Banks
I'm an audible junkie and have been scoping out Ultralearning for a while now I have a small stack of audiobooks on learning and memory To date, "Make It Stick, The Science of Successful Learning By," by Peter C Brown, tops my list as the best book I have listened to on the subject It seems to contain a lot of the information covered in Ultralearning From what I gather, it seems to have been published years before Ultralearning, too I may still pick up Ultralearning, but it is going to have to be really good to top "Make It Stick" I'm open to giving it a try, though

Turco949
One of the most essential keys to learning is often overlooked or not even mentioned at all: genuine interest or desire to learn If you are not fully committed, uncertain, unenthusiastic or daunted in anyway, you will not likely to succeed or it will take more time and effort, and retention will likely to fail much faster

Explaining difficult concepts to someone in order to learn them is so incredibly powerful at creating understanding in your mind, it has it's own name in the computer programming world - rubber duck debugging brbrIf you can't figure out a problem with your code, explaining it to someone, even if they have no understanding of coding, will help you discover the answer about 85 of the time You know how to code, but you're stuck in your assumptions brbrIt works so well that you don't even need a real person - a rubber duck works the same way

The first thing I notice about Scott Young from your description, is that he is evidently independently wealthy, or otherwise does not have to work for a living, which give him a lot of extra time to do the things you described So any advice he offers is completely suspect, because most people aren't going to be able to do that, solely on the basis of resources This also supposes that you are not a naturally curious person and pursue things solely for predetermined purposes, specifically, that you lack a plurality of interests
Comment from : Pengalen

Scott
This is frankly a lot of bla bla bla You learn through failure And the way you learn is unique to you Some people learn via reading text books Some learn via doing Some a bit of both But the one UNIVERSAL requirement to any form of learning is the desire to want to learn If you don't have any interest in learning something It won't happen
Comment from : Scott
