Hello T, thanks for sharing this accurate story, the more important news channel at the time, they did not report any of that massacre, the main news that day was ( its a sunny day), most of the Mexican remember that day as one of the most painful day in Mexican history The president at the time Gustavo Diaz Ordaz ( donky face) is one of the most hated ex president's Comment from : Onzas de Plata |

I just got into coin collecting And this 1968 coin was on my "must have" list I just bought it I'm from 1997, and I was told of what happen in Tlatelolco in 1968 by my father It's a sad, tragic story, but by me having this coin is like having a piece of history Me having that coin is like immortalizing these students and their movement Now every time someone asks about my 1968 Olympic coin, they won't be getting the story of the summer Olympics, but the story of those who lost their lives to make them happen Comment from : Topivilla13 |
|
It's sickening, and a story that needs to be told and lessons that need to be learned You tell it well, and I appreciate that! I think most Mexicans, while not proud of corrupt goverments and definitely sickened by the events of that day, are proud of the fact we hosted the Olympic games and are proud of the design, and designer of the coin (the one-and-only Don Lorenzo Rafael) But I understand where you're coming from and that's fair Comment from : The Coin Box |
|
Why is so much corruption in México? Wal-Mart wanted to open a new store in my city, but at the best location was a fire station They bribed the local politicians to remove the firemen, and didn't had them a place until 2 years later What happens when politicians say no to big business? Banana republics Comment from : Ernesto Glez |

History and coins go hand in hand I love old movies from the 30s I always grab a walking Liberty half dollar from the same year as the movie holding it throughout and thinking about that era and who may have carried that coin at that time? Keep the history alive💪🏻 Comment from : Just Add Silver |

Hi, T So where is the largest Plaza? I guess Tiananmen Square Am I close? After my "State Seal Debacle," I am restrained in citing Mexican history, butI have read that players of those ancient games did not fare well if they lost that game The consequences were brutal I separate the Olympics from local politics in intention I have that coin, and I can look at it as celebrating the athletic achievements and leave the politics and that unfortunate event to history The coin does not commemorate the political event It is about the Olympics If it was celebrating the massacre, I would not have anything to do with it I don't think today's Olympics should be associated with covid and Japanese politics, even when it affects these games brbTYU/b Comment from : Donald in New Mexico |
