Actually you need a DI (deionized) resin stage for pure water next to distilled water Regular RO typically at best will bring it down to a single digit TDS, while a DI stage will bring it down to 0 Reefers use DI a lot Comment from : aigomorla |

Just got neons Looking forward to breeding them My tds is 60 from the tap and 1dGH, 3dKH pH is 7 but drops over time or will stay 7ish if I do water changesbr I get why you suggest RO water, for consistency, like if I give my water time TDS will increase while pH dropsbrbrAnyways rain water is my likely solution I will try once my fish get older I'm not going to get into RO water when parameter are fine and I can get down to >6 by not water changing for 2 months with my tap water and letting the KH deplete I think this can work Comment from : Sparky Jones |
|
does this work the same for cardinal tetras? Comment from : Dustin Tinsley |

Hello, I have seen your videos on Youtube and I was fascinated with the techniques, I am currently trying to breed neon tetra, I am on my 5th attempt, I have not been successful Today I will try it again and I think this attempt will be the definitive one since this morning I noticed my tetras very active and I could swear that they were courting each other, I also got 40ppm soft water The water in my fish tank is somewhat exceeding tds since I had a problem with parasites and fungus for not quarantining a ramirezi that I recently acquired and they recommended me to add halite salt and increase my tds from 127 to 700 ppm, I know this is counterintuitive but it worked very well, my fish are free of ich and fungus, I notice them very active and healthy, now I will progressively lower my tds to return to normal now for me 5th try I will use water with a tds of 40 ppm, it is the lightest water I could find, I added 4 cattapa leaves in 8 L, I am going to place the mesh that you mention and since I do not have java moss I plan to use green yarn My question is, if the changes in hardness and temperature could negatively affect spawning or something worse, I share the parameters of both containers ∆parameters of the community aquarium pH 68 tds 700 ppm (salt addition) temperature 29°C capacity 210L ∆parameters of the spawning tank pH 57 tds 40 ppm (osmosis water) temperature 21°C 8L capacity The only thing that worries me is if the tetras could suffer some thermal shock due to that drop of 8°C, but I suppose in or in nature this happens in heavy rains I would like to know your point of view, what do you recommend me to do? |
So you are telling me that a neon tetra survives in water absent any minerals or salts necessary for the fish to function? You need Deionized acidic water and these fish will thrive in it? So the Amazon River is actually deionized pure water with a ph of 58 so they can breed there and that all the other fish in the Amazon have around the same requirements? Neon tetras do require low dkh and gkh but having zero will be eventually cause the fish to die Dkh of 3-5 and dkh of 3-4 which is about 70-90 ppm not zero I think you messed up somewhere😂😂😂 Comment from : Buck Hilton |
|
love it thank you, is it same with other tetras ? please kindly to let me know Comment from : ali iwan |
