The Bobo doll experiments demonstrated only that learning doesn't require reinforcement With these experiments Bandura was proving a limitation of behaviorist models that relied on reinforcement to account for learning These experiments, along with Chomsky's withering critique of behaviorist models of language acquisition, ended the American behaviorist project Bandura himself has said that these experiments do not demonstrate much of anything about aggression and that if that were the intent the experiments would have necessarily had a different design A better contemporary didactic use of the Bobo Doll experiments would take their popular exposition as an example of the persistence and utility of misleading narratives Psychology certainly has gotten a lot of mileage out of this one See Ferguson or Bandura for comments addressing this particular example; Koch and Uttal for the problem in psychology generally; Tremblay for actual aggression research See the APA reports (1993-2017) on video games and social violence to understand the uses of misreading Bandura Comment from : robospective |

I'm a young man trying to nurture my inner gentleness after a childhood of watching my drunk dad abuse women, and the bobo doll theory hits home for me My father was beaten by his stepfather, and as an adult he taught me that domestic violence is ok It's been a hard chain to break but when I look at my partner and see the love in his eyes I appreciate how far away from that life I've come Frustration is completely natural, using it as an excuse to hurt anyone is just flexing how tiny your self control is Comment from : Macaroni werewolf |

This is bullshit these old theories no take into account the hormonal control of the body Without oxytocin people mostly males become extremely aggressive because they cannot empathize with others Oxytocin is found in all mammals during birth as it creates the bond between the mother and the baby, even if the baby is sick or deformed Also emotions were not controlled will take over a persons life The more you let out the more out of control you become That is because your body is in fight or flight and full of cortisol and adrenaline Most aggressive people have zero control over their emotions and believe that their emotions should dictate their life Comment from : alice coppers |
