Thank you Ali I always get at least one key takeaway from your videos (I also liked the term neccessaties and NICEessaties) I want you or other views to give some deeper examples of purchases written off as 'work expenses" you gave the examples of a watch/suit however I could see these as 'self investments' to help you manifest who you see your future identity as I'd love to hear more insights on this the example I have in my mind is a new car - it enables you to commute farther for work and more reliably but also ties into your life values if trravel/road trips are important to you Comment from : ClaytonLJenkins |

I've just finished the book "Happy Money" by Ken Honda and he also mentions how important it is to only spend your money (and energy) on things or people you really love because of not it's just useless for that specific casebrAnd thanks for sharing another great book with us Ali! I walked away from a job that was draining me to fulfill living The downside is now I'm homeless and trying to find ways to make money for basic needs So how does one change a mindset when they are on survival mode most of the time Sure one could say get a "real job" but wouldn't I be back to where I started or have I never left? I want financial freedom but honestly what I want is not to stress about the things I need Comfort has always been by end goal Shiny has never been my thing but exhaling has I work gig jobs more than my passion because basic necessity is there Comment from : S Nicole |

I just wonder about one thing Why the hell is it so difficult to live a normal person's life, go to work every day, even enjoy it, and still not be able to buy a house without a mortgage after 20 years of work and saving? Such a basic thing like owning one's own house (not even a fancy one!) without being a slave to the banking system for tens of years is for the great majority of normal people simply impossible :( That's one of the most depressing aspects of life in today's world Comment from : Dariusz Spiewak |

It’s so very true - it’s a mindset I’ve used for a few years Before I make a purchase, I walk around for a bit imagining how much joy it really will bring as I’ve wasted so much money before on frivolous purchases that brought mecan you guess? Zero fulfilment Great post & great book! 😁🙏🏼 Comment from : Parks With PJ |

I once worked as a supply teacher The pay was average but it was done by day, and sometimes it was fun but most of the time it felt like a direct swap of time for money I saved SO much money in that time because I was just so aware of what the price of something really meant - eg a takeaway on average was the equivalent of an hour of dealing with kids Would I deal with kids for another hour in order to have a takeaway? Nope Comment from : Jenny |

The point about spending money to impress peers is so true I have been working from home since March 2020 and I have spent way less money on clothes than I usually would It's as much to do with no feeling that I have to 'dress up' for work and wear something different every day as it is to do with not being influenced by what my colleagues are wearing Just seeing heads on screen certainly helps with shoe envy! Comment from : Dianne Sullivan |
|
Just watched this now I do more with Minimalism these days When I decided to buy a new caravan one of the things i did was in a spreadsheet calculate the amount of time I would have to be in work in my life in order to buy what I wanted I am trying to persuade my wife to let us move into a smaller house to clear our debt Comment from : Rolling with The Robsons |

75K/yr but working how much? there's an enormous difference between making that kind of money working 10 hours a day compared to let's say, 5 hours a week! Comment from : samuele sala |

Hey Ali, Do you know if the $75k/yr is per person in a household or for an entire household? The ambiguity of this number always distracts me when I hear it used Comment from : Make Build Modify |

Ali read Das Kaliyah, it will change your relationship with money for sure ;) Comment from : Haris Khan |

This book, even though holding truths for a elite fraction of the population, is actually almost perverse in its take brFirst of all I would highly debate the claim defining ourselfs through work is a new developement Look at the surnames smith, miller, baker ect where do you think they come from? brEven in the animal kingdom the main activity of a majority of species is gathering ressources to either a) sustain themselfs or their offspring or b) impress a mating partner brSo I think to struggle for material success is built in us as a corecomponentbrTo be able to even think about whether we should be working less to gain more happieness is a luxury only the wealthiest percentage of human population have brThe average human being has to absolutely work his a55 off to stay afloat brWhat percentage of human population earns 75k a year? brI am working a proper job in a middle european country and I make half I dare not think about how many people in Africa or Asia even come close to thisbrThat take on money is for the richest I guess Comment from : Takeiteasy |

"Enough for fulfillment is around $75k / year according to certain studies" - what a joke, that is pennies Enough is when you can be free of the rat race and do what you want without having to slave away daily To truly experience freedom Which takes way more than 75k a year Society is delusional Comment from : Vinny Chiarelli |
|
So a good way of usinh that money is not to buy the ipad for enjoyment and rest from work but to invest in ourselves to presumably get a better work and / or understand life better which in return pays more Interestingbrbrbrbr(I still agree with it though) Comment from : Jonttuf17 |

Ali when you referred to money as "life energy" it reminded me of a interesting action/sci-fi movie released in 2011 that I'd highly recommend watching It's called *In Time* In it the world has been transformed to one where all transactions are time-based I found the alternate world it presents helped me better understand our own world & money a bit better Watch it and do a video about it!
