Wow lots haters on here lowrance won simply due to a narrower cone angle which gives more details All of the image issues the others are talking about can be adjusted with the gain for perfect images This video is about effective ranges This type of settings would not necessarily be used in real life My bet if you were not focused on range but instead focused on image quality the lowrance would still win Smaller cone angle equals better images Most on here are Garmin live scope users and just hating because they just got beat by lowrance Yes Garmin was first but as of right now not the best Comment from : Mark Drown |

The Garmin looks much cleaner, more clear As for how far you can see them the difference is very small Comment from : Swimbait1 |
I have a Garmin I recently bought but haven’t bought the correct transducer yet to show the forward facing I do plan to purchase very soon I have to say to me the Garmin looked cleaner but maybe since I’ve never used on the water I may be wrong Comment from : David Harris |

bLooks good even in daylight /bbenjoyablefishing/bb recommend it was exactly what it was described to be , works awesome , overall happy with product/b Comment from : intira yakho |

Garmin clarity by far To much interference in lowrance but both good units Comment from : SmallTown Outdoors |
Did you purchase both units with your own money or were these units given to you? Comment from : Jason8 Arthur |
Thats messed up they made my boy Jacob look bias becuz he's sponsored by Lowrance Lol 😆 Comment from : Big Kou |

Just in the process of trying to decide on the big three I have been a Hummingbird user for a long while now Thanks for the comparison video here After looking at many videos I think the Garmin has better clarity Probably gonna purchase my first in a week or 2 Thank you for your input and videos Comment from : suzanne taylor |
Garmin owns the forward sonar technology The other brands only have what Garmin lets them have That means Lowrance and Bird pay Garmin! Comment from : cjr4497 |
I live on lake moultrie on santee cooper lakes in sc,,am 65 and have fished lake all my life,,i have finally convinced myself to spend some of my kids imheritance on a forward looking sonar unit setupi have glaucoma so i need something clear and easy to see,,,i fish mainly shallow water areas of lake for bass and breamcrappie etc,,which is best for me lowrance or garmin,,i love the idea of being able to scan a cove and see if there is any fish and if do where they are ,,,some friends say pan optix is better for deep fishing,,,your expertise is welcomed,,also WHERE is best place to buy,,i cant find a single palce offering any discounts even for military or retired law enf Comment from : Charlie Smith |
If ur sponsor by the little bro (Lowrance) you have to turn a blind eye on the King of live scope (Garmin) Simple said Comment from : Arthur Vang |
Mega live beats em both Comment from : Riley miller |
These units make me not want to watch tournaments anymore Definitely not fishing any tournaments where I’m fishing against it Taking the fun out of Bass fishing Comment from : Troy Holley |

What brand a rig is that I would like to know Comment from : Brade full |
Are you suppose to see any fish All I saw was what looked the be weeds Comment from : Roger Rockwell |
do you think when you were tossing the a rig that the color on the screen is different as in the Garmin is a orange color compared to Lowrance is more of a red, cause I know people say different water clarities they run different colors? just a thought Comment from : Rocky Cagno |
Thanks Jacob It seems to me like you presented as even a view as possible But sounds like a lot of the folks had their own opinion before you started not really fairbrMy situation is that my boat has Lowrance HDSLive and I'm considering adding active target If I went to garmin or humminbird the additional cost would be prohibitive for a casual fisherman But it did show me that getting the Lowrance version would be just fine! Thanks to you and all the other great fisherman on MLF (MDJ, Edwin, Ott, even your boy DC) for all the great TV watching experiences same with the You tube and Instagram stuff Ding! Comment from : Dave Luhrs |
Thanks for the video! Are you planning to do an update to this and maybe include Humminbird also? Also, was the Garmin unit turned off when doing the Lowrance test? I know it was in a different boat, but if the Garmin beam was on and pointing in the same direction as the lowrance I wonder if that could be causing the static on the Lowrance unit On the cast test, might be better to use a smaller lure, that way you won't have to cast as far to get the maximum range Comment from : DaveD |
If you could only afford one witch one would you get Comment from : Crankin Tanks |
Your at Wolftever bridge haha I didn't know you were from here, cool video👍 Comment from : Justin F |
Ultimately Comment from : Chip Sammich |
Lowrsnce has a wider cone This is not good for targeting fish Bigger cone means you have a wider range to miss Garmin has a 20 degree cone Comment from : Baker Vinci |
I’ve had livescope for 4 years and have never dialed above 100 feet Comment from : Baker Vinci |
So, here's what I've gained from all these pros' "unbiased" unit vs unit reviews It goes something like this -brDear Lawrence, we're sorry we cheated on you Garmin had a sweet looking ass and had some moves you hadn't figured out yet But Garmin expects me to understand math and how frequencies work I just can't do that Ever since you got that tummy tuck and your teeth fixed, you're looking mighty fine I heard from the boys that you're putting out againsocan I please come back? Will you forgive me? I promise I will never cheat on you again Purdy please? Comment from : Cerebral Tackle |
Lives cope kinda killed fishingand that isn't one its both Killed the fun possibly and definitely killed the talent Not saying they should be illegal but they should be illegal in tournament fishing Comment from : Chris Cosby |
Which one do you feel has most detail if dishing boat docks in 5-20 can u ft of water Comment from : Shelbie Boling |
Does the lowrance always have that flickering Comment from : Crappie world livescanner |
Seems like you're trying to convince yourself that your purchase was the right one Garmin looked better to me and I'm a humminbird guy Comment from : Chris B |
Garmin Comment from : William Louden |
Garmin looked better, I like Lowrance but really jumpy, seemed like less detail Comment from : ExploziveFishing |
Can you do an Active Target image interpretation video??? Comment from : Shannon Dishner |
Seems like there is still a tremendous amount of room for improvement, lots of noise or objects that appear and instantly disappear Sorry, but it seems that one would spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the screen instead of fishing Comment from : Chris Koffend |
Doesn't matter which is bestif you have to have a video game to catch fishare you really fishing? Comment from : John Partridge |
Active target it’s inferior … #livescope Comment from : Miguel Salazar |
That blowhard should shut up We want info on the sonar, not his big mouth Comment from : Jim Preston |

So dumb Comment from : bope1469 |
Both are good From what I viewed, the Lowrance is improved clarity I am sure competition will continue to improve Comment from : Larry D Collins |
Garmin for the win! Comment from : jbl |
I thought Garmin looked better Not as much noise Almost like the gain was cranked higher on the Lowrance Signal blotchs appearing on the Lowrance, Or maybe its my eyes LOL Hope the settings and cone angle were set similar Both look good, incredible technology Great video Jake Comment from : Brad Alford |
When lowrance came out with this it looks like they rushed it i knew this guy was a lowrance guy before he even said it like i had been for over 20 years Not only did the lowrance have crazy glitches going across the screen with no mention, but also he doesnt how when hes looking for fish detail he didnt metion that on the garmin that the tree looks like a tree on the garmin and isnt as detailed on the lowrance Comment from : Samuel Pointer |
Which one should I get? Garmin Striker Vivid 9sv or Lowrance Hook Reveal 9" tripleshot?? Would like opinions based on features and tech and not preferences over a name Or should I get some other one? Comment from : Riku K |
Not only did the Garmin have a much more clear image, the Lowrance was blurry and image was pulsing quite a bit Even if the Lowrance picks up tiny blips 5 feet out further, the Garmin beats this hands down Anyone denying that, has bias I'm a Lowrance guy, but facts are facts This test really helps Garmin since most bass fishing is done much closer than these long distanced tests were showing so inside 70 feet where most are fishing, the Garmin would greatly outshine the Lowrance Comment from : Twin Turbo LSX |
I personally think garmin has better image I’ve never liked Lowrances images so it’s really up to personal preference They all get the job done Comment from : Thomas |
What do you think's worse livescope or Mike long snagging fish? Comment from : 84neilbone |
Furuno CH 500/180 isn’t to shabby Never used garmin products but they look good Thanks for information Comment from : Atlantic Ocean |
Looks like a Dedicated shaftt on the Lowrance and not on the Garmin Could be a 360brbrNotice everything the Garmin looks really good, he bumps the troller brbrSeemed like when the garminwas dialed in it looked better Maybe a bit shorter but 90' is a 30 yard cast and not many baits go that far Comment from : Rob Carey |
U might explain WTF You are looking at U say u saw it when it hit the water Where is the surface? I see pilings I can’t tell what’s a fish until it moves towards your lure Does it have thermocline indicator? brIf this technology isn’t oppressed it’s going to absolutely ruin bass fishing As everyone says it’s like playing a video game and I can do that from my warm, dry house Comment from : David Ball |
What I found amazing wasyou were at Wolftever ramp and bridge and hardly anyone was there Usually that place is loaded even through the week Comment from : Tn Backroads |
I have heard many people complain of interference using active target in conjunction with mega 360 On the other hand you can keep garmin livescope one inch from your 360 pod with no interference I would also say a wider cone is better esp because most of us bass guys have our live technology on trolling motor mounts (Live scope user, never used active target but im sure it works well) Comment from : DK Dice |
Garmin looks very smooth I can tell exactly what I’m looking at I prefer Garmin, and I have Lowrance on my boat Comment from : Robert Rodriguez |
No way, I’m just watching this review and I realize he’s like 5 minutes from my home in my local lake (chickamauga) Comment from : Koa Nikola |
LOL! Lowrance "MAYBE" beat 2 YEAR OLD Garmin technology 😂 Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Garmin has competition now, it was nice that the price of these systems dropped Oh wait they didn't Still waiting to see what Humminbird has coming Good video Comment from : Southern Reels Fishing |
Lol, what the hec are the bullets being fired at the fish? I thought it was a video game!!! That alone shows lack of development technology or they just didn’t finish till the end!! They both seem okeither waythe bullets being fired is too much of a distraction for me Comment from : Frank Gilroy |
Thanks for this great video Can't wait for a comparison with the new Humminbird Mega Live Imaging, when it's available Takes too long 😔 Comment from : Bart van der Hulst |
I own the Garmin Livescope and was getting really unclear images with the factory trolling motor shaft mount I upgraded to the Summit Fishing trolling motor mount, so I can adjust the transducer angle and wow that made all the difference in the world The factory Garmin Mount kicks the transducer off at an angle so it does not pick up the trolling motor foot, so at further distances the picture quality decreases big time brJacob, can you reply which mounts you are using for both units in this comparison video?brThanks Comment from : Landry Crew Adventures |
Lowrance’s Active Target will be the better unit at some point Garmin’s Livescope’s software has maxed the capabilities of the hardware They have had 3 years of updates Lowrance has had 3 weeks since they shipped Comment from : C C |
Lolnew boat has Lowrance trolling motor That tells what unit is "better" Gotta please the sponsors Comment from : Nope |
Wish you would have moved in on the bridge piling to show the fish in relation to the structure For me not being familiar with this new technology it was hard to determine what was fish on the bridge A lot of interference on the screen also Thanks for the demonstration Comment from : deanstarfish |
Once the lowrance got real close I thought it looked better but for 80 of the video I thought the garmin looked much better Comment from : Robert Johnson |
Easy decision for me, live scope just better pic hands down Comment from : Jeremy Johnston |
Hope you saw that it wanted it faster Comment from : Ryon Wilson |

Lowrance looked like shit Comment from : tom heun |
Jacob How is your noise reject on this? I noticed the ghost tree Comment from : Scotts Kitchen |
Watched this video without volume I felt the Garmin clearly was better, more clear, easier to read Turned up volume and watch again, Jacob doesn't agree When Lowrance is a sponsor I understand For me Hands down Garmin I have a Full Bird system now with a garmin 1242 now, but am getting a new boat and am wide open to all brands Lowrance is out so either a Full Garmin system, Bird with a Garmin or a Full Bird waiting on Mega Live Comment from : Steve Sigmund |
Ya I’m gonna say garmin won all day Comment from : Shane Thomas |
@Wheeler Fishing , hey J-Dub dibs on your old Garmin?? Comment from : Mr David |
I use Garmin, but I think Lowrance won But I also think Lowrance had so many years to get this right and they did finally, that was after they screwed a lot of their fans out of MONEY with LiveSight I like the competition between all three major fish finder companies I think they will all make each other better I can't wait to see what hummingbird have coming out Comment from : Mackfrizzle |
I don't like the screen scrolling on lowrance Comment from : Scott Cozart |
Thanks so much for the video Jacob!! Now can u tell me where I can buy it for the best price? Any negotiations with any place or let’s say military discount available? Comment from : Retired123 |
Garmin looks way better imo Comment from : 48Hours 2Live |
I was more concerned with that big school of crappie at 15:16 Comment from : callmecamo2 |
Lowrance has a lot of weird artifacts Are they a practical issue? Comment from : Test Boga |
