Good-quality online courses are as good as in-person courses - I think it’s even better for certain subjects that need to be demonstrated on screens brSelf-learning ability is really important If I have a choice, I would only hire people with self-learning capabilities I’m tired of lazy/dumb hires who cannot follow instructions to work independently/accurately despite with plenty training sessions and materials provided Comment from : Ly L |

You can actually take a lot of free online tutorials and courses that can give you basic structured introduction to many topics You can also take paid online courses for free through your public library These can be good and are a nice alternative to courses presented by novices The courses presented by novices for pay can also be good if they are giving you information that is not widely known Comment from : R |

Before starting a mechanical engineering diploma at my local polytechnic, I smashed out a heap of maths courses on Khan Academy Gave me a really solid foundation in maths such that I was the top student in many of my diploma classes On the other hand, I started an SQL Data Apps course in Udemy, and it was utter garbage Online learning can be great, but some courses are better than others Comment from : 2bFrank |

Very good advice, thanks, TechLead I found that a combination of paid courses (preferrably with exams or assignments), book reading and own practice is the best for me The next step is to create a project from end-to-end, with all documentation, version control and using good coding practise Comment from : Dirk Müller |

I had 2 different experiences with 2 different courses, and the course that had more flexible return policy and way lower price, changed my life way more than the one that had almost no money return policy and was costing way too much brThat better version course of a bit less payment (around 50eu) changed my life for the better forever for surebrSo if i would say anything about my experience, it would be that you can find an amazing course for a decent price and price does not equal qualitybrSo if you want to learn something, bigger price will not always mean that you will learn better, sometimes if the price seems too big for you you will end up regreting, don't be manipulated into bigger prices Comment from : Atlantean Energy |

I think the best thing about online education is that it is accessible to everyone Earlier a lot of information was only accessible to corporates or multinationals employees or institutions and very few would have access to them Now, if one knows where to look, they are not really dependent on being within one of the corporate houses or institutions to access that info The only info the corporates get to keep is IP, and that's ok Comment from : Mittu s |

I get this "poor people are afraid to spend money on things that can better their life" they would rather buy good food or playstations to fit into the crowd, (Rich people will take money or time to spend it in a way to better their lives rater take 200 and invest it than buy a months take away foods) this is more focused on "RICH MIND SET" VS "POOR MINDSET" Comment from : marius eybers |
|
I was/am one of the people that buys a lot of online courses and for a long time ( for about 2 years) I thought that it wasn't worth it BUT when I look back at my old self ( not investing in myself) and compared to my colleagues I am far far ahead, you really don't notice the progress until you stop and evaluate your past compared to now! Yes, online education is really good Comment from : Alex Silva |

The real question is when will official universities be removed Absolute waste of time while gatekeeping people from careers Especially when it comes to engineering You learn next to nothing about all the subjects you study and come out uselessbrAnd school is just as bad, for 12 years you can produce experts in a field and the fact that they are kids and have all the time in the world is even better The official education system wastes 12-20 years of people's lives and produces useless people Comment from : IIIRattleHeadIII |
|
It has nothing to do with knowledge and coursework It is who you know Period Comment from : Michael Wilson |
|
The point is that free courses are in many cases better option than paid ones Especially if they are being made by community and anyone can improve them If it comes to academic knowledge - many professors share their pdf for theirs students but not restrict access, so anyone can read them If it comes to pay for a course that has no additional value beyond the psychological obligation of doing what you paid for - in my opinion, it's not reasonable to put your money into it Comment from : losiu998 |

well for me invest on yourself is not paying for a course, I see so many people who paid their tuition fees end up playing cell phone during college classes You gotta really spend your time and energy on the knowledge! paying is not learning the entry fee Techlean mention is not necessarily money, you need to sit down and learn Comment from : benjamin yang |
|

You absolutely SMASHED the people who hate on online courses And rightfully so One type wants to be negative and get everything for free while the other type values investing in themselves and their abilities through a variety of different business coaches or mentors or mastermind groups that (can) accelerate their success if they’re willing to put in the work required Comment from : Adulting Shouldnt Suck |

There is also a third category of people Those that do not feel that online courses provide any real benefit for you I am not saying that they should be free My colleague went trough some of them and said that he forgot about these topics It is said that programmers forget API after 5 years, so all in all if you are interested in any form of course, attend to one which you will be using in near time Comment from : kolegakolegi |
