My issue with cameras is the alerts come through too slowly I've got a Google Nest Cam on my front porch as well as a Google Nest Doorbell The alerts come through 60s - 3-4 minutes after the actual event Are there any brands that don't have this problem? Comment from : Dan Warne |
|
This guy seems intelligent so I’m 100 certain his bias is formed selfishly Until you have facial recognition and every single American citizens face in the database, video surveillance does NOTHING to protect you if you’re away from your “screen” Ok, let say you hire a video monitoring service Burglar walks up, motion alert sent, he breaks in, monitoring service calls police… How is that any different than an alarm system? Not to mention cameras require internet, so all the thief has to do is cut your cable or fiber line and they’re in At least alarms have a battery and cellular backup This dude knows all these things, just talking in his own self interest If you want protection get an alarm AND video surveillance Comment from : Jerad Vaughn |
|
Millions of people have cable for internet service All it takes is a pair of bolt cutters to cut the cable and your fancy camera system is defeated Comment from : rebel7254 |

Comment from : Phil Ralph |

Dog + 12 seems to have had the best results for me Bird buck buck buck And your right, alarms are useless & overpriced can make 1 yourself for a tenth of the price Comment from : Flailmail |
|
Because burglars don't wear ski masks and/or enter through entrances where there are no cameras The chances of identifying the burglar through a camear image are near zero I'd rather frighten them away with a louf alarm than have a video of a masked person rummaging through my house Comment from : g_man |
|
So why not like adt which has the old fashion and at the same time the new google contract so it has the video doorbell and camera system etc with the two way auto and everything all together Comment from : Zack K |

As a security professional installing Alarms for 23 years I have seen so many cases where a Alarm system would have made a big big difference in the outcome of the break in Cameras protect property Alarm systems save lives It's that simple These days bad guys don't care that they are on video Comment from : Alex Quezada |
|
Question: if someone is breaking through my home security system when I am gone, how can this be done and the security company can't track the activity? What should be my next action? The police can't do anything because the system was armed What do you think? Let me know your take on this Comment from : t williams |
|
See but I'm looking for who set up those solar tower security systems not home security systems for 1 because I want to be hired by them because I have ideas and experience and I'm willing to learn Comment from : Keith Morse |

I think you got good points but not great Pros n cons tho As a person with a past life I'd say alarms 100 impact criminal mindset & how long you linger Comment from : TheGreenWorld Ch |

An alarmsystems tells the intruder, that he has been detected + it tells the owner that his house is being robbed That is what i'd like to know as a home owner + when the alarm goes off, the burglar has limited time to find most valuable things, minimizing risk of valuables that has high affection values brbratleast thats my opinionbrbrBut i also think, that the sooner you can alarm both the burglar and yourself the better The less time he has, the less traumatizing the burglary will be i thinkbrbrI know that even tho you have alarm system a thief can break into your home, if he's like " Yeah well they have an alarm system, but i can break open the window, cut the wire to that designer lamp and run" Yes, that is very much true! But How much would he have gotten away with if you DIDNT have the system 🙂 I believe as a family, it's "easier" to get over losing a lamp, and coming home to a broken windows and a lost lamp, than coming home to a house where every got damn shelf and drawer has been emptied on the floorbrbrThat is why i sell alarm system myself to minimize the damage and the trauma for both the home, and the home owners ( + all of the smarthome features which follow along with our system ) Comment from : Nikolaj Brandt-Mosegaard |

As a retired security engineer who designed, installed and serviced alarms, cameras and access control systems, I couldn’t disagree more Your reasoning is based on a false premise that all burglars are professionals and have the same mindset, statistically this is not true Further it’s about layers of protection Good lighting, trimmed bushes, 3 inch screws on strike plates and locking hardware, good locks, alarms, and yes cameras We have air bags in our cars but we still wear seat belts and maintain our brakes and auto insurance It’s all about layers of protection An alarm can do things a camera can’t It can monitor for smoke, CO2, sump pump, freezer, and Medical Emergency just to name a few It is not an Either/Or proposition, it’s a Both/And proposition Comment from : Tom Koll |

You have a good company I think I will say though that sometimes 911 is busy and after your wife has tried them for over 30 minutes because the frat-boys two doors down have shot you with a 9mm in a drunken rage, but can not get through There are times that a digital way into 911 that monitored system normally have is helpful By the way I think you have some of the best camera system installations I have seen in Omaha Comment from : Bryan Smith |
|
Banks have alarm system Businesses have alarm system If the owner is out of state it’s hard to call the police but the alarm system definitely works in such scenarios I would say have both alarm system as well as cameras, dogs, guns and neighbors (proactive) Comment from : Elsa&Annie |

So I’m glad I watched your follow up video first and not this one first You started out on the downward spiral brbrFirst off: yes, people who break into your home can still break in and steal stuff According to the FBI, when alarm is going off the burglars are out a lot quicker and can get away with less of your stuff than if you didn’t have a home alarm brbrAlso home alarms are something a lot of burglars look into Not every one And some are smart and have found ways to bypass (especially the older ones with no encryption on their sensors) But it’s not the number one determinant (cameras are - which is a fact YOU SHOULD of mentioned here) brbrBut I like your videos I like where your heart is at Keep up the good work and I hope you keep getting better Comment from : Allen S |
|
Agree Comment from : Naomi King |

I think having both is best I want to be woken up at 3am by the alarm so I can react In addition, I will have the camera system Comment from : Peter Young |

Traditional burglar systems (with smoke sensors too) are great, work well, adding cameras (layers), is smart too Quick story - we have both outside cameras, and a traditional alarm system which has door, window, glass break, and smoke sensors Our traditional alarm system is monitored, we do pay the monthly fee Just yesterday, our alarm system sent me a text and a push notification (to my smart phone) that one of our smoke alarms went off, my wife and I were out-and-about, just enjoying the day The central station called me to let me know, and I asked them to send the fire department, which they did Long story short, our 19 year old grandson was home alone, he smoked a cigarette in the bathroom (totally against the rules of our house), threw the lit butt into the trash can in the bathroom, and of course a fire started The fire did not get out of control, but it could have We were alerted, the central station dispatched the fire department, I've got the whole thing documented via my outside cameras, and the events registered within the traditional alarm system Nobody got hurt, this is #1 There was literally no damage to the house (we lost the one small bathroom trash can) This one event makes my years of paying for the monitoring system worth it I'm a big fan of both traditional alarm systems (installed by professionals), and cameras too Comment from : Bob Shackelford |

Thank you! You mentioned real world issues and I agree with youbrIt’s hard to decide what is what for security system, cameras etcbrNew sub!👍brbrI worked for a high end home builder and I was trained on many different security systems/cameras brPlus every year there’s something new out so it’s hard to keep on top of systems that are good brI appreciate your time posting this and the other videos I plan on viewing brbrI need to get a security system/cameras asap The crime around here is getting bad Crimes are no longer “hidden” People will do what they will in plain daylight with people around and the police have a slow response due to cut backs etcbrbrSince I can’t ”carry” and protect my property outside of my actual house, not even ON my property where I live, a security system/cameras is my only option for protecting me and my home and it’s hard to figure out what is good out therebrbrAgain, thank you for your postsbr🙏🏻👍🇺🇸 Comment from : Susan A |

I recommend Street justice my self Comment from : BigJon 62 |

Are you security cameras and security systems so that in case somebody is breaking in I can still hear the alarm going off because the camera alerts don’t wake me up Comment from : Dinosaur Park and such |

Best advice I've seen on the YouTube about security systems I our area there are no charges for false alarms, but a cop told me they will not respond after so many false alarms I doing what this man's model of security is for years There are so many camera systems that will go right to you phone, use one Comment from : Computer Freedom |
|
Thanksespecially for the "skip the monitoring feesthat way I can pay for MORE good perimeter protection!! Comment from : Jay Santos |
|
My biggest problem with security alarms is like when I received a letter from the installation company letting me know one of their former employees had left with Al their customers information 😮 Comment from : Anna |
|
I think you need both You need the perimeter cameras to see what you're dealing with, but you also need the burglar alarm to physically alert you and the neighbors there is a home invasion in progress You need a vey loud siren and strobing lights at the point of entry you need to make the crooks feel disadvantaged, a strobing light keeps blinding the eyes and prevents the crook's eyes from adjusting A very loud siren will hurt their ears and keeps them from hearing each other So what you want is confusion outside whilst you get ready for them inside Comment from : Gilbert Oviedo |
|
Algorithm Comment from : Mike Hunt |

can I have this video in my website? Im not recording or reposting anything Comment from : main account |

I just now stumbled upon this video and how ironic I've been thinking about should I get a security system company or get those cameras that alert you when there's activity After watching this it's helped me understand the differences and will be getting cameras instead of going through ADTbrbhad to edit because I forgot to ask a question/b brWhat cameras do you recommend using or do you have other videos explaining pros and cons with different cameras? I need help with deciding what I should get Comment from : Blue Neptune |

Layer your security system, have a gate, perimeter sensor lights, cameras, alarm, exterior PIRs connected to alarm, warning signage, know your neighbors and their neighbors, have good locks on doors and windows Keep your kit locked up and look up not down at your phone Comment from : John In NZ |
|

Deterrence is the first step, just a sign can send an amateur burglar to the next house Cameras or fake cameras can do the same thing Only the dumb criminals are caught Get you a gun and take care of business when the need arises Comment from : DB COOPER |

I wholeheartedly disagree with this opinion What if someone wearing a mask walks into your backyard, comes in through a window, and hauls your stuff off to a buddy ready with a U-Haul in your driveway You get the notification on your phone that someone is walking around the side of your house but don't see the notification because you're busy trying to make sure your 3yo isn't walking into traffic After 30min or so once the toddler crisis has been averted you notice the alert, and now what do you have? Video footage of someone violating your privacy and security It may as well have been spiderman that broke inbrbrLet's paint another picture You first secure the interior with vibration sensors on your windows and doors that will go off regardless if the perp breaks the glass, opens an unlocked window, or even strikes the glass in an attempt to break glass but fail The alarm goes off before the perp can get into the house (some might just leave) and the monitoring company immediately calls you (not just 1 of 100 notifications you'll get that day) because the system is armed and the home owners don't usually enter through a back window When you confirm with them that you are not home they contact authorities within the min maybe two if you don't answer Combine this scenario with a couple to a few well placed cameras and the monitoring company can inform police that a perp was indeed attempting to enter in through the back window Making the police have a far greater sense of urgency with a visual confirmation that it's not just another false alarm (because most of them are)brbrThe bottom line is cameras only show you what someone already did to your home Unless it's someone you know who's dumb enough to not cover their face, it's not going to help you recover anything What happens if someone uses a local power outage to ensure cameras are either off or offline to shroud a burglary or HI? Is your ISP reliable? Layers of protection help Security lights that turn on when motion is sensed A sign to deter adolescent burglars Vibration sensors that make it impossible to enter through and egress without the alarm sounding It's about the whole package and IMO cameras are the least effective Comment from : SubliminaL |

I have had ADT for 3 years and they have proven to be a waste of money Further getting hold of a representative is extremely time consuming On average it can be 30 to 40 minutes on hold waited to speak to a live rep I am actually on hold with ADT for the fourth times today and have still been unable to get a single rep which is necessary in my situation My advise is, do not ever sign a contract with ADT Comment from : Michael Jones |

Thank you for the input I am leaning towards DIY homekit sensors and cameras, but I must ask you, are you not worried about Wi-Fi going out? That’s my paranoia and makes me somewhat interested in vinvint or ADT for backup power and cellular alone Comment from : Jules |

What about an alarm system that integrates with cameras, such as the DIY ring alarm system? Comment from : Tech, Life, And More |

I disagree The security alarm system serves as an early warning when you are in the home When I'm not home take what you want Comment from : Rakhu Rakhu |
|
Valued input, and all Not sure about other locations, but the incentive structures built by home insurance and discounts provided on annual fees with a valid monitoring certificate can offset the cost nearly This is also excluding the monitoring on fire and flood Both variables that insureres almost demand with updating building codes and liabilities increasing with the advent of climate change increasing in magnitude Comment from : Ronniebby |
|
Boots on the dirt not on the carpet… you do understand security companies like ADT offer cameras and they install them, and if anything happens they have lifetime warranty so ADT will come out and if they cant fix it they replace it for free Camera’s + alarm system Comment from : LeviFit |
