Good stuff! I'd always suggest people think about what they want to do with the camera brbrI wanted a budget rig for street and travel photography: so for me, low cost, light weight, weather sealing, autofocus speed and in body stabilisation were most important So I got a second hand Olympus OMD E-M5 with the 12-50 f35-62 kit lens, all weather sealed I wanted to do morning and evening shots, so also got a prime lens: 25mm f17 Panasonic (not weather sealed but cheap) The whole rig bought 2nd hand from MPB with spare battery and 2x fast memory cards came to £500 plus shippingbrbrBut I would say while it can do low light, landscape and portrait shots, a Nikon D610 with a 50mm prime would be a better choice (full frame but heavier, no image stabilisation - but if you are working off a tripod all good) But the 610 is not a run and gun thingbrbrAlternatively if video is your thing, a 4k Sony camcorder might be how you roll Pretty good photos too plus fab zoom lens, stabilisation and autofocus OK for street/travel but not a portrait/landscape camera for surebrbrIf you want all three sets of capabilities, at a high level, in one device get your cheque book out But best to start cheap for sure with the photography you want to do

I am looking for budget camera that is capable of recording hq video 15km/1 mile away for target shooting so need to be able to see the small marks on the white board and also to be able to film close the players the talks so need to be ll in one and looking for the cheapest and also to be compact don't mind if it's even Chinese brand but on other hand modularity is something I love do you know something good for that purpose Maybe those all In one cameras with motorized retractable lenses would be really comfortable to carry couse you don't have to deal with detachable lenses but nikon d1000 looks a bit pricey of 600$ I was hoping for a 100-250 range I have a few tripods but might get separate

Thank you so much for this, very helpful tips Consider me subscribed I use the S23 ultra (along with the hohem isteady 6 gimbal) and specifically got it because of the camera I get superb quality videos and photos I however would've loved to get a traditional camera My fear here is, I can't go above £1000 for the camera and lens (and needed any accessories) It would really suck to get a camera who's quality is less than that of my phone I felt that way when I got the GoPro hero 10 and only kept it because of its durability and stabilization with good lighting What do you think?
Comment from : HarmyMD

Andrew Klafter
This was a very helpful video I recommended it to a friend who wants to start studying photography The only thing I'd add is the best camera for someone who is very oriented toward artistic photography and who will therefore me very interested in learning the ins and outs of manual camera settings may be different than other shooters I think that people are very art oriented would benefit from getting a used Fujifilm (X-T2, X-T20, X-T3, X-T30) because they are designed to make manual shooting much more accessible Or the Nikon ZFC would be a similar choice I think that the mechanical controls for manual mode make these cameras better teaching instruments, and you can find really good deals on used models

Great stuff Marc ! I live in the States , in the South were boating and fishing are a big deal People invest a lot of money in boats and fishing gear! Often times they hardly ever go boating or fishing The same can be true in Photography You go out and buy an expensive piece of kit , the same kit the pros shoot , you have the great glass , carbon fiber tripod , fancy backpack etc and your photos are average ,dull snapshots or eveything you go out on a shoot ,you have charge your batteries and try to remember how to turn the camera As Spyros Heniadis would say, get out and take some damn photos!

I've an ebay business and I used my old workhorse fujiflm HS30 EXR but needed to upgrade it for 1:1 aspect ratio I have gone with a Canon EOS 60D along with a kit lens Once I get a feel of it I will buy a prime lens for macro and full body shots, maybe a Canon 100mm EF F28 macro USM I got my camera and lens for £215 and yes it is older but I don't need one with all the bells and whistles
Comment from : Geoff Duke

RealHouseMouse2
The only advice I can give is:brIf you are starting in photography and thinking about buying your first DSLR, don’t spend all your money on a body and lensbrBuy something cheaper than your budget and spend the cash you saved on some basic photography cource

Dana Pushie
Really well articulated overview of the main items to consider when looking to buy a camera I went through the process about a year and a half ago Decided on: Mirrorless, APS-C sensor, Canon On the matter of budget I think one should examine the full range of gear wanted or perhaps needed ie bags to filters, extra batteries, etc But don't forget items like editing software and will you need to travel to pursue you interest not to mention taking courses to help you learn? Great channel Thanks Oh, and lenses might be as important as the camera body
Comment from : Dana Pushie

UNARMD
people always forget the term "The right tool, for the right job" Everyone always seems to think they need the most expensive gear they can buy to make them the bestbrbrBut lets be honest, yeah the newest cameras may have better autofocus or snr but a 5D mk ii is still a photography workhorse by todays standards and for what was once a professional grade camera, is still now an affordable full frame for a beginner Same can be said for the 6D mk i or the Nikon D600 Not to mention the huge list of lenses compatible with both the Canon and Nikon right down to vintage film glass
Comment from : UNARMD

Bill
I started with an old Praktica many years ago no metering system of course, I still have my old Weston meter, It wasn't an easy way to start, you had to learn the hard way, The Amateur Photographer Handbook was all there was really It's much easier these days to get some sort of decent photo almost immediately there are tons of people who have no idea how a camera actually works, they're just guessing most of the time you must learn how a camera works, you need to understand what's going on It will make you a better photographer at the end of the day

Great video many thanks! I am planning to buy my first camera, I will be using it for family and nature photography , and want to get printable and high quality photos from our new born baby I have looked at different models and short listed Canon D2000 241 MP (440€), and Kodak pixpro astro zoom az425 digital bridge, 20MP(270€) Which one in your opinion would be more suitable for my purpose? I believe KODAK's lenses are not interchangable, but it has Zoom and image stabilazation Would really apperciate your help!
