So everyone keeps mentioning the various issues plaguing the original Xbox, but I don't know if my brother and I were lucky, but the only issues we encountered with our old console was 3 controller ports no longer working and some games being unreadable Other than that, it still works really well Though recently we bought a crystal limited edition OG Xbox from a local retro store and it feels like it's brand new

Back in the day XBMC had plugins to enable content from streaming services like YouTube, News Channels, Apple Movies, Shoucast, and many many others Depending on the codec used for downloaded content 1080p video with 51 surround sound was done flawlessly DivX 4 I believe, but it was a newer format requiring more compute power like h264 and h265 you were limited to 720 or 480p content and obvisouly the older the codec the better it played such as MPEG2 I used the Media Center Extender remote and app to connect to my home PC to watch DVR content caputered on my PC using a HDTV tuner card This allowed for a Full TV Guide, internet app support such as MSN Chat, Yahoo Chat, Google Chat, Email access, Webpage browsing etc all on the XBOX, basically any content that you can access on the PC via the Media Center app was streamed to the XBOX

I’m one of those weirdos that likes physical media still, so I bought a replacement laser on eBay for the disc drive It was about $20 and only took 30 minutes of work to get it installed Very little soldering required, just some patience Great to see the modding community is still going strong with this awesome console!

Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 are always used at the first examples for a console that "can emulate n64" because they always run smoothly when the rest of the n64 library will play at like 8fps Same for the PSP, Pi Zero, etc

Don't know of any good fully homebrew games but Freefall 3050AD is pretty cool Nuon game with xbox port planned but cancelled fairly late in development MVG got the source and finished it a few years ago

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was deathly afraid of the og xbox boot animation and home screen when I was little lol It feels so alien and other worldly, which I think is why I was so scared of when I was younger, defiantly the best home console ever made though I have fond memories playing lego star wars and battlefront 2 when I was about 6

going from the SNES to the xbox must have been devastating The SNES library blows just about anything till 360/PS3 gen out of the water Games on Gamecube/Xbox (PS2 is fine) have all agred horribly and completely failed the transition to 3d with their small and clunky worlds Some stand out like first party nintendo games but on the whole anything on the SNES beats xbox games anyday easily

That CRT at around the 0:18 mark kinda looks like mine I have the Sanyo HT30746 HD CRT I got for free I got it mainly for older game consoles, the PS3 and SNES specifically Going to be connecting the PS3 to the only HDMI input and the SNES to S-Video One of the Component Video cables once they arrive, will be used for my DVD player I use for older movies and TV series that look like garbage on my OLED, as until I get a Panasonic DP-UB9000, all I had for watching physical media is my Xbox Series X which has piss poor upscaling of DVD’s, especially older ones like North and South from 1985 with Patrick Swayze Plus DVD’s just look better on a CRT running 480i anywaybrbrAfter connecting the SNES, PS3, and DVD player, I’ll have one Component Video input open Anyone have any recommendations for classic consoles with great games and the ability to properly and or natively run Component Video output? I’ve been thinking on the N64 as I never had an N64 I didn’t have a Nintendo of my own until the Wii U As there’s games on the N64 that I would love to play again, as I played them on a friend’s N64 The games I did play were Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Goldeneye 007 However I’m open to just about any older consoles especially if they have really good games I’d also would love a genuine NES, as my CRT has in total, 1 HDMI, 2 Component Video inputs, One Composite/S-Video combination input, and 2 RF inputs So I could legitimately connect a NES to the analog RF input like we did back in the 90’s

5:47 I remember trying the hotswap method when I was like 15-16, 12+ years ago, this part gave me such nostalgia Ended up locking the drive and giving up lol Still have it somewhere, not sure if the drive issue is fixable without a backup image
