Thanks to several people for pointing out that I was totally wrong and the Sony XD Cam DOES have a built-in ND filter I have absolutely no idea how I missed this over the course of two months, but I did The switch can clearly be seen at 15:36 next to the battery on the back of the camera The good news is that this makes the camcorder even better!brbrAs I said in the video, this isn't a review of this specific camcorder, but rather a look at modern camcorders in general I wish I would've done a better job in being aware of the ND option, but I also don't want to get too bogged down in the specifics of any one camcorder model for this video

I'm looking to record conference presentations Small conferences - under 100 people We want to have a YT recording available after the event It's for an insurance company, we don't need the best looking video in the world, just something professional Do you think a camcorder would be a decent choice for that? I'm not a photographer, don't really want to get into different lenses and the deep photography, and we don't expect cinema quality Although, maybe it would be best to just hire a company to film it Thoughts? a cam corder is the only thing you can run and gun with when your doing wild life the deer is not going to wait for you to change lenses or go into your menu for your best setting i have a canon vixia hmf 50

I really wish they would sacrifice some zoom length and make larger sensored (like apsc) versions of these consumer camcorders You take a mirrorless camera, and rig it up to have similar IO/functionality as a camcorder and it is now huge and heavy

Why aren't camcorders more popular? Because people who end up working with them, ie Me, Always need 1 more button so we can manually control settings during operation and they never have enough SDI, network or HDMI port combinations to be used for live events these days

From what I can understand, they’re good for TV and live productions, while a DSLR is better for dynamic and on demand workflow, since you can swap most things on the body

I use my sony a6400 shoulder mount with a b4 lens! It's great because it gives me 22 mm to 450 mm zoom range just need the b4 to sony e adapter and clear image zoom

Just one thing, when you convert focal lenght for an 1 inch sensor you also have to convert apperture So yeah, not a f28

Sony did have a full frame sensor in their VG lineup, which predated their first 'budget' cinema camera, the FS100 So, it can be done Other than sensor size, one of the main reasons that DSLRs and mirrorless cameras became popular as video cameras was because of their stealth prowess In the initial days, security and the general public didn't really expect 'photographic cameras' to be able to take video and this allowed a whole group of people to take video in places where they previously couldn't without getting permission to do so Also, the initial NEX series of Sony mirrorless were very small and the whole idea at the beginning was that mirrorless cameras, ie interchangeable lens cameras, were small and would become popular with more people They also came with smaller lenses As the mirrorless cameras grew in popularity and quality, so did their size and that of their lenses The stealth aspect and the size aspect largely doesn't have much of an advantage anymore In part, because parallel to the growth in mirrorless cameras, was the arrival and popularity of the smartphone Meaning that any shape of camera or even phones were all video cameras The latest iPhone even allows shooting in Apple ProRes and even in Log and even allows recording the files/rushes to an external SSD brbrHowever, I find the mirrorless, or more accurately, the still camera body, the most unsuitable form factor for video there is Okay, there are some situations where space is a premium such as in a vehicle or where the camera needs to be placed in an awkward position where the form factor works better, but for the majority of situations, they are a pain in the you know where I think it is time for Sony to re-introduce the VG lineup I don't see how it needs to be more expensive than a FX30 or FX3 as essentially, only the body form factor would change, with perhaps the addition of built-in ND filters and probably, a different battery or even the same battery Doesn't mean that there should be no more video orientated mirrorless, but it is time to offer an alternative that is not as big and bulky as the FX6 The same applies to the other manufacturers also The most ludicrous example of a mirrorless gone wrong is the Blackmagic Design 'Pocket' Cinema Camera, although I acknowledge that the latest version has dropped the 'pocket' out of its name I am talking about form factor, not the excellent internals of the BMD camera just my thoughts on the matter

I love using camcorders for my overhead cameras for the simple fact you can control everything with a remote It’s really annoying to need to physically handle a camera that takes a long time to frame perfectly Having the zoom on a remote is amazing, and Sony cam corsets never overheat I’ve had my AX100 on for 3 years straight The color science also pairs well with my ZV-1brbrI just wish there was a full frame version

I come from the era of Betacam and DVCam, 80s-90s, Camcorders they began to be converted in automatic units, very hard, if not impossible to operate manually, I switched to dslr in 2013 and dsl in 2017, tried to get back to one, mainly for the zoom, but these are now simply toys, talking about units up to 5K $, returned 5 units after trying them…

The time I wanted a camcorder was doing doc in Zambia Like jumping in and out of cars a stoopid DSLR rig is no good but 29mm is a no go Get in a car/army landrover/lift/crowd and you cant see the whole scenebrOf course the eng camcorders have 47mm at 2/3 which is proper widebrSo 29 (even 32mm with some models) means the camcorder cant do the very thing it is supposed to do Be good in tight spacesbrAgain crappy AF and a tiny screen this is deathbrBut times moved onbrTh canon 605 actually has a wide (nearly enough lens) and AF (which means a tiny screen is fine) and there is a sony too that has good AFbrFolk should very much be visiting these camerasbr24mm FOV 10bit AF, ND XLR and you are goodbrJust no camcorder offered that until a couple of years agebrLo light maybe have a mirrorless with a 50 18 too This is how it started EX1 to record the interview and the 5d2 did the art close up
