Graham Mitchell
What a great video It's clear to see how your family love you and learned to sign for you As you always say, so many families don't sign so you're very fortunate that yours do If you do another Q&A, I'm curious about what skills your sisters have gained with having a deaf sister, apart from signing? And do they use ASL in other situations?
Comment from : Graham Mitchell

Hyghly Defyned

TO be honest, sign language is useless Most don't even know it Just write what you want down on a paper and show it to people

I hope that one day your family will see you as someone independent who doesn't need them (but who wants them in your lifejust not the same as always; growth brings some changes and that doesn't mean anything lasting is taken away) Loving each other, being part of each other's lives as adults in the same family, wanting to share precious, God-given moments togetherthat's all possible without them continuing to believe that they have to somehow knit you in and "do" for you It is possible just to enjoy each other I pray they let you flourish as someone they adore, admire, and love to the ends of the earth, but will never fully understand bc they won't get out of their own view of you It's not your job to accommodate to everyone's feelings under the label of eternally patient I know you love them and they love you It's ok to grow God calls us to it

As someone who just recently found your profile and I'm learning about you (and from you), I appreciate to also learn what your relationship with your family is and how you all communicate The relationship with your sisters warmed my heart cause you all get along so well and also are able to communicate (and understand) perfectly There were moments were you all laughed cracking a joke and that was so wholesome, I often see and hear this misconception about people thinking hearing and deaf not able to have fun together or understand each other's joke and things like that but you prove them all wrong here And I'm glad!brThank you for sharing, this was so interesting!
Comment from : Irvory Syaoran Biksey

Taylor
I love this video I watch it every once in a while I wish I had siblings!
Comment from : Taylor

tj1990
they can sign as fast as they can speak and thats pretty impressive
Comment from : tj1990

El Harr
Imagine signing while talking becomes a norm We'll see people casually do sign language instead of just moving their hands randomly while doing a presentation
Comment from : El Harr

Mo
Haha! You three are so awesome, this was so fun and interesting to watch Love it
Comment from : Mo

Rohan
Hey, Ashley, is there a specific sign for your personal name? I couldn't quite catch it when your sisters did it It was very fast
Comment from : Rohan

YuBeace
Whoa, you three really look alike I thought Ashley was the one sitting in the middle for a second, but that wouldn’t have made sense!
Comment from : YuBeace

While there might be discrimination when it comes to jobs, I'm thinking most people just aren't familiar with interacting with the deaf No doubt a deaf person can have the exact same qualifications and abilities as a hearing person to do certain jobs, especially in a professional setting However, I wonder if a setting like fast food would be more of a challenge for the team, due to the language barrier I'm curious what you would consider an appropriate response to a deaf person if you were an owner of a burger establishment where no one knew sign language
Comment from : Violet Joy

Jessica G
14:10 Surprised to know hard of hearing is different from deaf I was told by my teacher that it's rude to say 'deaf' and we should use the term 'hard of hearing' instead
Comment from : Jessica G

Rokh &Roll
I used to play Cricket with a group of 4 deaf guys and they would have the music so loud in the car, when I asked why? you cannot hear it they would say we can feel it and they loved it They where really fun to be around always up to mischief
Comment from : Rokh &Roll

Zion Thomas
This is cool but, please talk while your siding
Comment from : Zion Thomas

unicornmadness
You know what's funny/sad is you would think that's what a parent should automatically do when they find out their child is death, they should immediately learn sign and teach it to their children so they'll be able to communicate with that person who is deaf but unfortunately that's not the case I know someone who has four kids and the only kid that knows sign is the teenager who's 15 the rest of the kids ages 4, 7 and 9 don't know sign at all Sadly it's the teenager who disciplines her siblings the parents can't even communicate with their own kids and it really surprises me, you would think this is something that should be common sense teach your kids the language so they can understand what's going on in their own home Very sad, glad your parents took the initiative
Comment from : unicornmadness

fuzbcuz
So correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that they are all signing in the grammar of spoken English Is this common? I'm learning ASL with an app and it's taught with ASL sentence structure For example: "your-name-what" instead of "what-your-name"
Comment from : fuzbcuz

Comment from : David Barban

Aditya Vaishy
It's actually so beautiful of a decision of their dad to make it compulsory for everyone to talk in sign language so Ash is not left out br♥️brAnd that he scolds/reminds anyone who talks without using signs
Comment from : Aditya Vaishy

kar oma
god was being lazy making this family like a teenager plagiarizing Wikipedia and changing a word or two -god:"see! it's a new one!" -people:"you copy pasted the same girl!" -god:"ok i'll tell the first one to bleach her hair :)"

Comment from : Alana Johnson

Hi, its me
A girl I grew up with was deaf Her parents did not want her to learn sign language but wanted her to read lips and live in the hearing worldbrShe used to sneak signing books into church and wanted to learn They wanted us to just write what the teacher was saying down on a notebook for her It was a very frustrating situationbrWhen I went to college I took sign while I was getting my degreebr I ran into her at church when I went to try out a deaf session She was there and had fully immersed herself into the deaf community It was a beautiful thing to see her happy and communicating brASL is a beautiful language
Comment from : Hi, its me

Raz M
They are so loving All 3 Does seem unfair to the hearing children to do the interpreting at church That must be exhausting & if children are old enough to understand what’s happening at church, they should be able to attend without having a job
Comment from : Raz M

Jorge Sanchez Tarango
I 🤟🏻 this video so much!brI’m learning sign language but I need to practice with someone!

Dodge Crockett
Ashley, I've had the privilege of working with blind students When I would enter the room, they would say "Nice to see you" And that's not considered facetious It's a commonly used phrase, even between two blind students By analogy, I was wondering if someone (whether deaf or not) could be referred to as a "speaker" while they are signing ("Signer" doesn't sound quite right) Also, I noticed that while you're signing, your lips move but there is no vocalization Is this primarily for your benefit or for the person to whom you're signing?
Comment from : Dodge Crockett

Jaiden TMR
is Ashley and her parents, and her sisters a christian? please let me know i want to know please! (it would be so cool if she is!!)

I’m hard of hearing in my left earHave to wear a hearing aidI find it hard to hear with background noiseI also have a learning disabilitySo found it hard to learn if there was background noiseIn the classroom if there was background noise, so I found it hard to hear the teacher or my aidSame for when I was workingIf my manger was giving my instruction
Comment from : Kims Book Corner!

Fu Qiu
Just a tip: there are 2 ways of signing «ask» the sign when it is a question as in someone is asking a question is you make you index finger in a hook shape and depends on who the question is for so you move the sign to the person The sign they you used is still ask but as in you are requesting something or begging
Comment from : Fu Qiu

UnderSouthernStars
This is one of my favourite video’s on YouTube There is real love between these three sisters I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting any of you in person but I’m thankful to have an insight into your lives through this medium Your deafness Ashley, while certainly bringing some complication to your life, has also brought joy to others and in return I’m sure to your life The Lord certainly works all things to our good for those that believe in Him!

In our school some of the students who are deaf have parents who are not English speaking They are learning English and they don't speak English so they can't go to the ASL classes which are taught in English it's rough! And heartbreaking Sometimes they try but learning two languages at once is really hard
Comment from : April O
