This was always my favorite song in girl guides because of the backstory A young girl dying of an illness sat at her window everyday watching the barges wishing she could leave This song has stuck with me for years and once i have kids i will sing it to them

My mom was a girlscout and learned this song, she taught it to me when I was a kid Now, so many years later, I still use the line about the lights to jumpstart my memory about lights while I work in the Coast Guard

So sad The leaders of my girl guide group told us the story I forget her name but she a young girl who was sick with cancer I believe I think she ended up dying bit she wrote this song because she would watch the barges out of her window wishing she could sail away from her troubles I'd start to cry when we would sing this song, however it was still a top favorite of mine
