The worlds is not the problem its the fact other events are behind Comment from : Otaku Logan |
Before even watching the video I'll answer this one NO! It's not too heavy It's the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP! It should be heavy I couldn't give a damn how well you did at Players Championship XX All most people care about is how well you do at the Worlds If you don't like it tough luck Work harder to get there next time Comment from : bigbad123321 |
Got the 170th like 😂😂 Comment from : Austy Van Austyman TV |
Sponsors and TV pay most for the World Championship Probably Player`s Championships are paid better than they should be related to the sponsorship deals Comment from : Möchtegern Milliardär |
NO it's not to heavy Comment from : Mark leighton |
Personally I think the earnings are too heavy I think they should take 100k off it and spread it out over the other majors I get it both ways but taking a little off it would help manage the playing field instead of having roller coaster rides with players Comment from : Jon Bucz |
Yes, without question Comment from : gynandroidhead |
The thing is, for the viewers and for the players, the World Champ is THE tournament to win It's the event we always refer to when talking about a player's achievements So the prize money is actually the result of all that hype behind the World Championship imo Comment from : Vinci Davinci |
The size of the prize money makes sense for being a world champion as it is the flagship event of the year but the benefit to their ranking I think is too big Do away with money being the ranking system and change it to points so prize money can remain high Comment from : Glen Wright |
I agree with MVG There should be a point system that is not directly tied to the prize money Comment from : Stinger Bee |
How about make the worlds open to all 128 tour card holders so they're all guaranteed a crack at the big money? At the moment there's only one premier event (The UK Open) that all 128 card holders are guaranteed to play Comment from : David Whiston |
It’s right that the World’s should pay the most, but needs to be brought slightly closer to the other Major’s It doesn’t seem right that a player could play consistently well for two years and have a couple of bad World’s, and be behind the rankings of a player who offers very little but has a good couple of World’s I know the first player is more likely to remain in the top 64 because of the rolling system, but the second player may get the opportunity to play in bigger tournaments based on their higher ranking which will also provide them with more prize money Comment from : Ian Greaves |
Same for everyone and it’s huge money that comes off in month 24 if you drop your standard Comment from : Damian Leah |
Aspinall Comment from : bazellis |
So, you gotta be sure you're peaking for the WC Comment from : Sean Santos |
Who did the percentages? Jose De Sousa?? Adds up to 110 Comment from : G Man |
hahahahaha player moaning that an event that saved his tour card pays out too much, is this video for real? complete lack of self awareness, edgar Comment from : Dumb Questions |
you counting one or two world champs prize money in your calculations? Comment from : Chris Mason |
I think it's a little ridiculous that in a two year order of merit system, I, a non-card holder, could win one event and be in the top 4 in the world Comment from : Mad Viking |
I liked Wayne Mardle’s idea Deduct 1/24th, as in 24 months, of the players winnings each month rather than wait 2 years This would require consistency on the player’s part to stay high in the rankings Comment from : Timo Saareste |
It's not too heavy The other tournaments are too light! Other big tournaments should be 200-300K and pro tours should be 15-20K for the winners Given the huge numbers, I think there should be more prize money in general (but keep the Worlds at about the same for now) Comment from : Clive Dickinson |
I think that the prize fund of the WC isn't too heavy regarding the fact what immense marketing potential this event generates and how much money the pdc earns from this event it's not more than fair than giving the players their share of the whole thing What bothers me more is the huge impact on the order of merit this event has Been said that Players who just only perform good in the WCs constantly stay in the top 16, Top 10 doesn't matter if the rest of the year they just play "rubbish" This leads to a world ranking which doesnt really reflect the players strengths in comparison to each other So in conclusion i'm fine with the prize funds i just think the ranking system should be reformed to a more fair system like a point system, similar to what is used in Tennis and other sports, so that wins in smaller events have also an impact in the rankings and giving constantly good scoring Players the opportunities to participate in Major Events Comment from : Jan Ole |
Of course the World Champs is way to heavy! A player could win the World Matchplay, Grand Slam, World Grand Prix, and UK Open in the same year and still not earn more than the World Champion brHow do that make sense?! Comment from : Jamie C |
nice video Comment from : Laste |
The amount of money at world is heavy and over 2 year calendar can potentially cause too much rise and fall in rankings Think the non ranked events like grand slam should be ranked to count towards prize money and that way the winner of UK open or other events get invited to grand slam and have potential to add to their earnings (otherwise the lesser players in rankings are always going to be up against it as top 16/32 getting invites and guaranteed money) Comment from : Buster |
Great video that matt the world championship is fine where it is I mean 96 players is a lot but it's so awesome to see players do very well in it especially Ryan searle you sharing with ryan in mk Comment from : Daniel Vernon |
You know that the WC is very heavy (in prize money) So if you train hard towards that event & you got a good run you know that you are save for your ranking (ex 32 or 16 of the world) Or maybe they should up the prize money of the other events PL shouldn't be more than the other events because it doesn't count for your ranking money & you get picked out Comment from : Dave Vleminckx |
The money should be spread over more tournaments aka leave the WC as it is and increase the prize funds of other tournaments instead, especially as the winner’s share for a world title has reached the milestone of half a million Comment from : Will Bates |
As a player you know that this is an important tournament If you lose first round its your own fault That also brings the pressure and you got to be able to handle that Comment from : Steyn van Halteren |
Bitch to defend a big run from two years ago! Comment from : Nguyen Dai Lam |
Need a 11 leg game with you-when are you free Comment from : Alan Collins |
'Too' not 'To' Comment from : bazellis |
I think they should develop a point system similar to golf Based on prestige of event and strength of field a point value is given to the event You could still have worlds and other majors weighed heavily but not have the world's at almost 50 just due to prize money Comment from : adanac67 |
The percentages add up to 110 percent other than that yeah a 110 agree with u Comment from : Mark Yuill |
Maybe it should be the case that rankings aren't linked to moneybrbrThe great attraction of the Worlds is that everybody knows that the players will be more motivated than for any other tournament The prize money is part of thatbrbrIt's a bit like snooker I'm not generally a fan and I can't get the thought out of my head that the players are a bit bored (probably not helped by O'Sullivan saying as such) however I will watch the Worlds because I know they want it the most Comment from : MaxDecimus13 |
Really interesting thankyou I think that they should have points for results and not rank on money earnings Comment from : Gary Mayes |
Other events there should be more money in it but the world championships is all about performing on the big stage over the longest format and the amount of money is deserved Comment from : Liam Anderson |
Why don't they make all tournaments points based instead of prize money based Surely they can devise a sliding scale from the world's down to a pro tour which would make it more balanced than using the massive discrepancies of a couple of major's prize funds Comment from : Jim Newlands |
Paul Nicholson also spoke about it, i agree with him that darts should make rankings similar to the tennis rankings where ranking is based on the points and there is tournament hierarchy, bigger tournaments give more points World championship must have more prize money and with implementing points it wouldnt matter so much as it is now Comment from : Ivanvrb017 |
Yep I've always he that thought as well I'm sure the pdc knows how to balance the money out for each event Comment from : Brandon |
This is more like a video: is the uk open too light 🤣 Comment from : Quinten de Rijk |
What about a points based system instead of an order of merit like it is in tennis, you can keep the prize money the same however instead of reducing prize money from the world championship make it so the points that are received aren’t massive compared to the other events Comment from : unclecuddles |
Too Comment from : Catman |
I’ve always found it strange that the ranking system in darts is tied to prize money Why not separate the two? That way the Worlds can still be a massive prize, but the PDC could give it a more appropriately sized weight for “ranking points” compared with other events Comment from : Jim Wismer |
A real thinker! I agree that on the face of it the Worlds prize money seems too heavy and something like the UK Open seems too light, but I think on the whole the balance of the prize money is about right The Worlds needs to be the biggest and by a decent amount, that adds to the drama The Ally Pally venue, the crowd, the hype, it's the end of the season, tour cards at stake, the massive prize money is a big part of that The UK Open is a big event but the reality is that it's an open draw, it's a lot harder to win the Matchplay or Grand Prix than the UK Open, or at least it's easier to go deeper in the UK Open if the drawing is favourable The prize money reflects that Comment from : Blair F |
My first thought is what if you have less players at the worlds this makes the money more available to go to other events Comment from : Nathan Illsley |
I think the two-year-ranking system should be reformed in general It doesn't necessarily change to a one-year system but it could use some changing Money won two years ago shouldn't have the same impact on the OoM as money won last week Maybe ranking money should half itself after one year For example the UK open 2020 winners money should only count as 50k and not 100k anymore, since it's older than 12 months Comment from : Oliver JaJaDo |
if next year makes the PDC good money, they should just increase price money in the other majors and leave the WC as it is Comment from : Haja Klar |
Just goes to show how well someone like Rob Cross was done over the rest of the events to still be in the Top 5 (with the Match Play being a big chunk of that) Comment from : Lee Collison |
Worlds prize money should remain the same for the players however only half of what the player receives should count towards the rankings !!brMight help to balance it out Comment from : Kieran Kilkenny |
Think a years based points system is much better 2 years is a long time to hold on to points Comment from : Big Johny |
I think it should be as is with regards to the world champs but others should have a bigger prize fund Looking at it other than just weighting for the order of merit do a lot of players rely on getting to the world champs to make up their personal earnings from the year? If so although possibly damaging for lower ranked players to climb up the ladder does it not have value in sustaining players cash flow for the following year of events? (I'm clueless but just a thought I had) Comment from : Darts with Johnno |
Spelt too wrong in the title of the video Comment from : Big Johny |
Should darts be in the olympics? Comment from : Adam Lam |
That is the problem with a Money based order of meritbrThe price money for all events except the UK Open is about rightbrBut the massive paydays at the worlds can give players unfair disadvantages or advantagesbrDevon Peterson was always guaranteed a spot at The WC because he would be the African qualifier even if he wouldn’t qualify via the Pro Tour OoM That would be 15000£ on the ranking money guaranteed That is about a third of the money needed to keep the tour card That gives someone like you That is fighting for his tour card a disadvantage be cause you can not count on making the WC every year Luckily he is now in the Top 32 and the advantage is gone brBut the heaviness of the WC in Terms of Price money can not be fixed If you offer less price money it is bad for the sport If you change the order of merit to a points based system it makes it more confusingbrThe only thing I would do is to only count the money towards the OoM if the player wins a game If you lose you get the money but it doesn’t go towards the OoM Comment from : Justin Ress |
Bunting's getting a decent extension this year 😂 Comment from : Alex Shill |
Should never be done on Prize money imo but just on a point based system Comment from : John weight |
I think it should be that heavy, considering every other event is growing each year Comment from : Nikola Đokić |
I don’t like the ranking system being dictated by prize money, I think each tournament should be weighted and given a certain amount of points eg if you win the worlds you get 150 points on your rankings, if you win the Matchplay you get 80 points There shouldn’t be such a wide gap between certain tournaments Comment from : Jordan Sollof |
I think there needs to be a biggest tournament and prize money is what contributes to how big a tournament is, but winning one game in a world championship gives you more money than winning a pro tour, so i think other smaller tournaments need a bit more prize money Comment from : Krishan |
I don't know I think it all evens out I mean these players who had a good run in the worlds may not have that kind of run the next year They may run up against Edgar when he is having that run Comment from : Dan Greene |
I think some of the other events aren't heavy enough I think there needs to be more prize money in tbe earlier rounds of majors, particularly the UK open Comment from : Wayne Gordon |
