I am from Russia and I have seen the other side of this story, where this money comes from In the early 90s during the transition from communism to capitalism was the idea that Russian people were supposed to own shares of major industries and former governmemal oil and gas companies, steel factories etc All citizens were given so-called 'vouchers' or shares that were supposed to make them rich, boost the economy and businesses It was a time of hunger and economic collapse, many people didn't have jobs or were not paid with real money So most of them sold their 'vouchers' (Russian govcorp shares) to criminals in the streets, some for a bottle of vodka, others traded their Gazprom shares for a jar of baby formula, true storybrbrThe early 90s Russian oligarchs got their assets for pennies this way But even worse, Putin's nowadays oligarchs (2nd generation) were the second generation, who got their fortunes for being loyal to Putin's cronies, so the assets of the first oligarchs were robbed from them and redistributed to the new, loyal ones

Sure, but the UK was and is still fine accepting Ukrainian and Chinese money Most money at the top level is earned through ties to the government in some shape or another government incentives, contracts, mineral rights, property rights, legislation If you try to disparage it just because it came from "dirty sources" it also would bring into question long established UK wealth, not just that earned in the slave trade, or the industrial revolution, but also that owned by the nobility which conquered the place or was granted some dissolved monastery by the Tudors

There are no beneficial owner disclosures to any government agencies, and the banks only require it if 1 person or entity owns more than 25, and even if the company is owned 100 by another company, only the name of that other company must be disclosed, not the beneficial owner, who may own 100, of both companies
