Here in the South Eastern US Police Officers are paid less, but at least they aren’t treated like total garbage by the community they work for and MOST of the politicians working above them (also, cost of living is pretty low so it’s not like “Low Pay” is really that big of a deal)

I worked in South Florida for 20 years I retired as a Sergeant in 2009 at 40 years old The last year I made 95k salary 20k in overtime and 15k in off duty detail The pension when I left was 80 of your highest 2 years including overtime with a 3 COLA every year While working it cost me 13 a year and I bought 4 years of military time for 150k but all in all it I feel truly blessed

the dept where i grew up, the Tahoe/Truckee area, the town was recently hiring for $35/hr minimum, to START i almost convinced a friend of mine who is a local cop where i live at now in NC to apply for a spot in that dept lol the only thing that stopped him was that he didnt want to "uproot his family" and move across the country for the job that was seriously the only reason the dept was even gonna buy him a house too, but ultimately decided to stay here in NC i cant say i really blame him though even though i loved Tahoe/Truckee, i hated it too
