I agree with you on the cash advances I have never taken any cash advances on my credit card and don't think I ever will unless I have a dire emergency and there is absolutely no other way around it If you use discipline in your credit cards, the credit bureaus will see this and your FICO score will go up brbrThe second thing I never do is carry a balance 5 days after every purchase I make on this card I pay off a balance so that I never carry over a balance to the payment date, now this will not make a difference to the credit bureaus as far as raising your credit score, but it impresses the credit card company and the bureau's look at it too brbrBut I would like to add one thought before I finish If you do need the money, and there's no other way out, a cash advance on your credit card is much better as opposed to a payday loan you will pay less in interest fees for the credit card

I've use my Discover card to get what they call "cash over" Basically when you make a purchase, they let you take some cash, up to $60 at some places, over the purchase price I haven't read the fine print on what interest they charge on it because I always pay off the balance every month I've checked my statements and as far as I can tell, I've never been charged any fees or interest on the cash Should still be careful though I never abuse it and take out more cash than I need And I'd advise ONLY use it if you pay it off completely each month to avoid interest It's convenient and I hardly ever have to make a special trip to the ATM to just get cash

Like almost everything in the financial world, cash advances CAN be used strategically For instance, I remember I needed 3k 3 years ago for personal reasons I took the advance from my capital one credit card which charges a 3 fee up front I immediately transferred the balance to my Chase card that was offering NO FEE and 0 interest on balance transfers for 15 months I paid the 3k 5 months after I was back on my feet Total amount paid for the 3k? $90, which is not bad at allbrbrWould I recommend it? Not if you're irresponsible and don't know what you're doing Just wanted to share my little story regarding cash advances :)
