Well, if we are heading historically correct perspectives, we should mention a few things about Arabic science of the Middle AgesbrAll of it was appropriated from Zoroastrian, Persian and many others cultures that accidentally were not massacred during the Arabic Islamic expansion The only "contribution" was the Arabic language, which made it easier to transfer the knowledge

Very sloppy writing from a mathematican'brbrMany cultures never got as far as counting to ten or writing, let alone producing mathematical proofsbrbrIf we teach history properly, let's teach the abject failure of sub-Saharan Africa to grasp the concept of isosceles triangles before colonialism and the introduction of Western thought

This a great and needed talk I am not sure that the title is appropriate, as there are several approaches to proofs even in Western mathematics What constitute a proof in mathematics is not always clear

Plus, minus, times and divide are four of the best known mathematical symbols, but what about the symbol for 'equals'? Who devised that? A 16th century mathematician from Wales named Robert Recorde and it's used in every equation and computer language in the world, but how many people knew that? Agathe Keller? Perhaps it doesn't suit her agenda to educate the public with little nuggets like that

TL;DW for people who didn't bother watching the whole thing: brbrThe modern notion of what a proof is was developed in the 19th/20th centuries discounting the diversity in mathematical thought in Arabic/Indian/chinese/greek maths This narrow definition was applied to non-european mathematical texts, and when found to be lacking in such proof was held up to mean the superiority of Euclidean maths (and by extension, Europeans) - NOT European maths btw as the speaker says there was a diversity of thought even among the Greeks with some being closer in their ways of reasoning to the Indians And even among the Indians there were some who reasoned more like the Greeks The point being, these were not homogenous

Lets consider the notion of "decolonisation" here She is saying it is colonial for European universities to focus on European history, which makes no sense, unless you realize that the people who are promoting views like that are usually just anti-European and the language of colonialism, white supremacy is their chosen way of rhetoric (I did not watch the lecture, it might be a fine historical lecture for all I know, but that is irrelevant to the point about the terminology)
