g'day people, I'm an Aussie and was clearing out a deceased relatives things and found one of these 1887 silver dollars It hasn't got any of those special marks but is in pretty good condition, except it's had a ring put on the top to wear as a medallion Would it still be worth anything or should I just melt it down with some other old silver I have?

Great video Just one thing more should have been said regarding the lower grade (VF 30)1878 8TF Morganthis particular coin has a key VAM or variety to it which is a VAM 9 The 1878 VAM-9 Morgan Silver Dollar is the VERY FIRST SET OF DIES used to strike Morgan dollars! So this is the rare A1h reverse It is also a TOP 100/ WOW VAM So that is the main reason that this one sold mentioned sold for over $480 Normal 1878 8TF VF 30 have sold on Great Collections in the range of anywhere from $37 to 73 dollars There are two VAM 9 1878 TF Morgans that sold on Great Collections for $261 & $319 dollars So that is what makes these coins jump in value at the lower VF 30 grade
