i was actually pretty impressed with the sound from the digital pianos being only $500 and less, but the difference was obvious when transitioning to a real acoustic instrument I would ague the best value digital pianos are really in the $2k-$3k range

If I had money to buy a grand piano and a place to put it I would in an instant brGiven the chance and opportunity I prefer a ‘real’ piano over digital or virtual brBut space and weight are usually issues Certain plug ins and stand alones have really caught up in recent years Can’t tell the difference depending which company you go with— I’m not plugging anyone for freebrbrA laptop, controller, and a socket is about all you need to ‘play the piano’ today

What is the message here? I used to get tuition from a concerto pianist who is also a very good jazz pianist and has made many recorods When we discussed this issue he said like me, that "a good digital piano is better than a lousy acoustic piano" When you live in an appartement as i do, a digital piano is necessary for practise and also works fine for recording at home, but when i want to record a classic piece i can rent a finely tuned Steinway grand piano in a church So there is really no conflict between acoustic and digital pianos

Any real (classical) pianist wouldn’t be caught dead with the digital The touch is absolutely wretched in those DGX models, because it’s incredibly light and not the graded kind of weight (heavier in the lower keys and lighter in the higher keys) Makes playing uneven and messes with your control and facility I had piano professors who were embarrassed that they could only afford to have a keyboard in their NYC/Boston apartment because that’s all they had space for Digital pianos weren’t made for classical playing, but other genres where virtuosity is not the main priority/exposed in the piano

A better way would be to do a blind test "Pepsi challenge" style as we will have biases I have a $250 88 key Alesis digital piano that I use paired with an Akai mini midi controller I can run software that offers SOOO many options I can get a plethora of very decent piano sounds, but also do all the things keyboards and synths do as well The possibilities are endless It's extremely versatile, portable, and the whole rig computer and all is around $1200 Won't need to be tuned and maintained like a real piano does it's not going to have the tone and resonance of a 5 figure grand piano of course but for me is far superior and suits my needs better than an actual acoustic piano can

A digital instrument will never sound like a real one Real wooden case, the hammer with felt, real strings All that vibrates and sounds much warmer, the more expensive and better the wood, the better the sound A digital piano sounds good in today's time, but against a real expensive piano it sounds like a tin garbage can

No caso do piano digital, a sensação que eu tenho é a de que as teclas estão batendo dentro da minha cabeça, é grosseiro Já no piano acústico o som sai suave e dá até pra perceber a reverberação das cordas Mas o piano digital não perde em tudo, a música fica com qualidade inferior nele, mas não significa que fica ruim, e ainda tem uma vantagem: no acústico a música fica enjoativa e dependendo do que é tocado dá até sono Eu diria que o piano digital seria melhor pra tocar em um Saloon com todo mundo bebendo, cantando e dançando, visto que a música nele fica mais animada, enquanto que o acústico ficaria melhor para música clássica

I loved the baby grand I have only seen two in real life, once in the 70's and once in the 80's They were both walnut and owned by classical pianists I was only 9 years old the first time, and my best friend was taught by her grandmother

I am a little shocked at just how different each of these pianos plays, they really are poles apartbrDespite the advances made in digital pianos they do not come even close, even to an upright pianobrThe baby grand is miles in front of the lot, however, so is the price, and as decerning ones ear might be i think the wallet plays a big part in what we play, having played what i think was the longest of concert pianos its a real come down to go back to a digital piano even if its supposed to be one of tbe bestbrThe amount of work that goes into building a piano is incredible so you can see where the price comes into effect, still, doescnot hurt to dream????

Teniendo en cuenta que cada piano suena diferente yo claro que lo adivino y con los s ojos cerrados el piano es de cuerda y el eléctrico no aunque uno bueno suena bien no es lo mismo yo tengo uno de cola otro de media cola un eléctrico uno de pared y la joya de la corona un Yamaha que me costó mucho dinero y no lo toco fue una inversión ya me daban el doble de lo que pague yo y si alguien hace eso ya me dice que vale mucho más

Just wanted to add - with digital pianos, you get what you pay for unfortunately As you get higher in costs, the samples get much, much better Would be interesting to see the same video, but compared against the sounds that come on a Nord, Kawai, or similarly priced digital piano

To be fair, quality digital pianos should sound very nearly identical to acoustic when they are recorded and played back through a speaker (such as for this video or for any recording project) But what about the experience of the performer and live listener? Actual acoustic sound waives reverberating from a soundboard, mixing in the room and hitting you in the chest FEEL different from any digital piano sound waives from a speaker To me, the acoustic feeling helps me emote, it inspires me when I play it That is the real world test that matters to me But when I'm recording and mixing piano, I can certainly make a VST sound perfectly real

In this order of preference: 1st place grand piano, 2nd place modern upright shared with 2nd virtual piano 3rd old upright, 4th digital, this last by a large difference, it was a very cheap digital, so the difference was very obvious
