I was diagnosed with Adult ADHD Combined last year I've always thought I may have NVLD too Comment from : Tudor Miller |

I do think NVLD is a real thing and should be in the DSM I am a prototypical case and this is the best description of how I am, with my Asperger diagnosis filling in the gaps around severe social problems and routinised behaviours, sensory, theory of mind etc But my learning issues are best described my NVLD This is at heart a spatial deficit combined with excellent verbal abilities, at least for literal language As a child I couldn't do even basic jigsaw puzzles and struggled with self help skills like dressing and shoelaces I had no number sense, and maths remains a difficulty although I compensate through using my excellent verbal memory aided by my synaesthesia I have no maths qualifications and have dyscalculia I had severe directionality problems as a child but this has got better over time My organisation has always been poor, and I can't read normal maps but can use google maps and verbal mediation - my rote memory is excellent, which helps, and despite visual spatial organizational issues, my long term visual memory is good- I struggle with organizing the visual info however, but can cement good memories through rote rehearsal and enough time My short term working visual memory is not good I struggled writing essays at school, but my parents helped me a lot and I can now write good essays Comment from : Autisms individual |

I am a very classic NVLD case but also have Asperger's I have or had all the symptoms in these slides, my verbal was high average as a child but now as an adult it's in the superior range, but performance still depressed Difficulties with maths, fine motor, severe spatial difficulties, problems with puzzles, social issues, all present Being autistic I also have need for routines, intense interests, sensory, and very significant social interactive impairment As a child my non verbal IQ was only 58-72, but my verbal was 99-111 As an adult my verbal is 131-142, but my performance is still only in the late 60s to early 70s range I also have severe slow processing deficits and a working memory deficit My reading comprehension as a child was poor but my word decoding ability was very good Comment from : Autisms individual |

I wonder if it is possible to have both Autism and NVLD Comment from : Camellia |
