I started playing piano about 2 months ago, back in 2017 i took classes on the theory of music But the teacher made me less inspired to play So about 3 months ago I bought my first key board The keyboard I bought is a casio ctk-3500 I know it's not perfect for playing on but it really is perfect for me

Based on my experience, most of the money you spend is really on all the extra features If you just want to learn piano and you have a mid range budget or even a high budget and want to save a lot of money or if you do not have a lot of room or live on a second story or higher apartment or even in an RV or mobile home, I would go for something like the Yamaha P125 All you need is the full size fully weighted keys, and a pedal You do not need all the bells and whistles if you are only using it to practice and progress at playing the piano

Sharing my own decision as a beginnerbrI took a piano before finding this videobrInstead of the regular trademarks (Casio, Yamaha, ) or the expensive ones (Roland), I chose a Woodbrass XP2 (88 weighted keys)brbrI checked many videos before picking this one and I picked it from the sounds I heard in the youtube reviews, especially compared to cheaper pianosbrbrI also had first to eliminate:br- lighted keys piano ; even if I thought lighted keys would be nice to learn songs (because they can lighten to show which keys to press next) ; the ones with lighted keys did not have the sound I looked for and I thought that lighted keys would be more of a bobo effect later and an extra not important at all after all, I have to build my awareness of the keys I press without looking for any light!brbr- foldable pianos ; because actually, even if I like the idea to fold and transport a numeric piano, all of them I heard in videos had a worse sound ; and its not actually important because I don't move around ; I prefer when I move to test another piano I'll find somewhere than using my own!brbrAnother reason for a XP2 compared to other trademarks at same price is because:br I also like the bluebooth (allows to connect it to learning apps and synchronize touch) and double headphonesbrBut most of all I picked this one over other cheaper piano (including the foldable piano) becase of its sound it was my first reason having a bluetooth piano was a second reasonbrbrBTW thank you for these videos, your channel is very inspiring, practical, and your videos very well made I am a new learner thanks to the accessibility of your videos

I generally agree with yor choices But I do have a few comments:br1 You can't beat leaning on an acoustic But even if an old upright is free and portability isn't an concern, than there are some issues You can't practice silently with headphones And you will need to have regular tunings, which cost money Also, an old piano may require some keys to be fixed or even more serious maintenence, which can get very expensive Be very careful, if you choose this option on a budget Taller uprights are much better than shorter "console" pianos, which use an indirect drop action and have very short bass stringsbr2 I love the RD-2000 and owned one Compared to the RD800, it has a physically modelled "V-Piano" engine which allows for adjustment of the sounds and unlimited polyphony It also has a mixer section, which allows internal and external sound sources to be easily mixed and layered But it's really a professional instrument and might be overwhelming for a beginner Also, the additional sounds (besides piano and electric piano), while usable, are not all that great The strings and pads are fine, but the organs are not very good and other instruments could be better, at least for a professional If you're buying in this range, you should also try a Kawai MP-11SE, which has an even better action, and a Yamaha CP88, which is also excellentbr3 If you aren't performing on stage and don't care about portability, than a home digital console piano like a Roland HP or Yamaha CLP (Clavinola) might be a better choice You'll get internal speakers, so you won't need an amp and you'll get a proper music desk for your sheet music These are available quite cheaply used, especially slightly older ones I wouldn't get one that's too old, but a Roland HP-203/HP-206 or HP-508 would be a great alternativebrCheers

I don't know if I'd advise a used acoustic for a shoestring budget It has to be moved, tuned, might need repair, etc, and all of that can cost substantial $$ Tuning in particular can be costly depending on where you live

Liked your video I checked out a new key board from my local Library I brought it home and it’s 61 keys but not weighted and I really didn’t like that But it was free for 2 weeks and I found out I have zero talent I thought I was going to play quick mainly cause I went to a BILLY PRESTON concert and he played “ Thats the way God planned it” guess I have a talent for listening Thanks 🎹

Hey I'm a beginner and short on money I'm not looking for any special effects or connections to pc or stuff like that, but I will use headphones mostly I'm thinking about the RockJam88 or the Alesis Recital 88, do you think they worth a try? For mid budget - and buying new, why get the years older P125 model when for $150 more, you can get an up-to-date 2021 model Yamaha DGX-670?brExact Same keyboard action, much better CFX grand sound (like the high-end P515), and way more than all the extras Including one button that turns off all the extras and just makes it a piano

A $30000 piano is JUNK! $300 for the piano, $200 - $300 to get it home that's $500 6 months later your "little darling" doesn't want to play the piano "IT'S TOOOOOOO HARRRD!!! So now you have a crap piano in the house it's only function is to stop the dust getting ton the floor and it's a place for cockroaches to procreate and die Advertise it, AND NO ONE WANTS IT! So, you pay the the trash man $100 to get it out of the house Your excursion into music, not including lessons has cost you $600- $900 dollars If you had instead bought a 2nd hand keyboard as suggested by Zach and "little darling" tells you 6 month later they don't want to play piano You CAN SELL the keyboard! I actually went the shoe-string route back in September 2020 by snagging an OLD stand-up piano off from a neighbor (for freeeee), and started teaching myself using your videos Been absolutely loving it, except when I try to play along with something I can REALLY tell how out of tune this old piano is, lol

Hi everyone a couple years ago, I found a Casio Privia in a thrift shop for $50 Nothing wrong with it except that when I play I do a lot of sweeping across the whole keyboard and when I get about 2/3 of the way across, the thing "forgets" the lowest octaves I just played ( I trained myself, so excuse me for not knowing the right terminology) No one notices it but me, but it is quite disconcerting :) I can't find a setting that gives me a real grand piano sound either, but again, people say I sound great I downloaded the owner's manual to try to figure out how to make it remember more and sound more grand, but couldn't find anything Any hints besides buying a new one?

Nice job and explanation on your choices I'm more partial to the Yamaha line (Motif, Montage) for sounds - I have the Roland Fantom X and while there's some great sounds in the board, the EPs are my least favorite For feel/touch, love the action of the Korg Kronos with the RH3 keybed - just feels like I'm on the real thing! Sounds are excellent as well, for me it's better than Roland's flagship But neither of those boards are cheap I recently purchased a Casio CDP-SP150 (never thought I'd buy a Casio, LOL) Rationale - wanted to get away from heavy gear (that Kronos X is not fun carrying, and neither is my backup Motif ES7) so needed a lighter board Looked into controllers (that would be a great topic for you to cover!!!) and bought an Arturia KeyLab Essential 88 based on reviews Hated the feel (fake semi-weighted) so took it back, but swapped it for this Casio just sitting there minding its business Played it and loved the touch - it's not my Kronos, but I could live with it! It's equivalent to the Privia line you mentioned, so we're on the same page there Sounds are ok, but I wasn't buying for that - have a laptop and tons of sounds at my disposal so the key beyond the feel of the board, was that it had a USB port and could control the laptop and DAW It's a win-win where I get the weighted keys, killer sounds (from laptop), and lightweight for travel Thanks for the comparison, good stuff!

Thinking I had done my research, I purchased a Casio Celviano ABSOLUTELY the worst choice I could have made The lower registers are not tuned properly (How is that even possible, given how they are made?) and the keys "clunk" It's maddening,brand there is nothing I can do about it Too much money for a very disappointing purchase I would never purchase ANOTHER Casio product, and I do not recommend it

I recently bought a "Pearl River V-03" digital piano for my son He is happy with it It has 88 weighted keys and the sound is good Just the lower register is a little bit too loud Unfortunately it doesn't have an equalizer to compensate that An advantage is that it has three pedals As for other extras -- it has MIDI / USB / Bluetooth connections, recording, reverb, chorus, metronome

Roland came out with the Roland FP-30X which is brand new and upgrade from the Roland FP-30 Only comes in white color and looks beautiful, 88 fully weighted keys and hammer action escapement like a real piano A fantastic keyboard for only $750 I will order one next week

The rd800 is nice but if you want a good live board you are gonna struggle with the menu diving I use a Nord stage 3 and it’s about the same price and is made for live settings on top of that, the samples are on par with Roland and Yamaha PLUS with the sample editor you can load cost on sounds easily to the board

I'm currently playing a Yamaha YPG-235 -- a older, 61-key model It's served me well and I'd recommend it I've seen some used that seem very affordable I'm looking at upgrading to an 88-key, as I sometimes find the range rather limiting That said, it's got some great capabilities and was money well spent!
