Thank you for this beautiful video It spoke to me so much I just came back from a vacation in Italy and I already miss it I got a little emotional when you talked about a slower pace of life and how badly I want that living in a big Canadian city The part where you mentioned just making do without also hit a nail on the head brWishing you and your family all the best

I lived in Italy for 4 years and coming back to the states is beyond horrible No culture, low quality toxic food, clown haired angry people, everyone is mad , high racial tension and expensive The only thing better in the USA is that you can actually go from $0 to a infinite $ if you have the right understanding of economics which they actually don't teach in schools The only bad thing about italy and Europe as a whole is socialism and high taxes that come with it
Comment from : Giak

This is exactly why I loved my 5 year tour in Italy I really miss the slower pace of life there

Although I agree with your reflections on life, this is a totally romanticized view of life in Italy I have lived here for 30 years and can assure you that, in the north, nothing is closed People work just as hard as in the US and there is no minimum wage This is a vacationer's view

I'm 69 years old living all my life in America (Jersey) & it didn't use to be like this We rested on Sundays, (For Christians that was like the Jewish sabbath) every business was closed till the next day, now nothing closes, never Now we are just consumed by our pursuit of more money, verses quality of life

Bening born here in Italy (and living quite close to the locations You have mentioned) I must thank You first of all for your very nice and touching video and impression of this landbrbrBut, a word of advice: the places You have shown are beutiful and special indeed, but are an "exception" and are considered "a bit secluded" even from those who live in nearby, a bit bigger, towns (not necessarly being "big cities" like Milano, Firenze and Rome, just to present an example) brI mean: while still very beautiful (on the rocky small hills on the seaside, breathtaking landscape and views, a lot of gardens and "green" and very nice and tasty food), those towns and cities do not present such "limited options" in everyday's life choices (like "one-room shopping places" and so on surely we are not used to huge malls or "hopping centers" like Target, Walmart, CostCo and so on), I assure You that the "typical italian" does not need to live in Milan(o) or Rome to be able to acquire lot of different products: maybe he/she will not find them all in one "gigantic place", but definitely, even in my "not so big town" I can find also japanese ingredients (not just preserved foods) and many other "not so local" things, beside "0 mile", very fresh and rustic, local food 😅

If you are foreigner and want to live in Italy it’s not gonna work for you if you are ambitious about your career May be good place for vacation or retirement The reason why I said that is Italians not mixing with other people you are not going to see any other race in professional jobs like doctors, engineers, lawyers etc , unless they changed the law and include other race Italy will still not good for foreigners to start a life stay away for now and better go to England or France
Comment from : Political philosophy club

But how do you earn the money it takes to live there? 'menu items' coffee shops' housing??
Comment from : Joan Mayfield

Alessio Seawolf
Sorry to say, this video is a bit superficial That's not how everyone lives in Italy If you are in a placid touristic place of course life is really relaxed, if you go to Milan you won't find the same We all grew up, as you, thinking about the future and the carreer We also work hard, maybe not as much as you do, but quite hard The only difference is that, generally speaking, we have a better quality of life
Comment from : Alessio Seawolf

Akane Tendo
Siesta? Girl youre not in Spain lmao I hate it so much when american think that Spanish and italian are the same language or the same culture Also for anyone reading this PLEASE note that 99 of people in Italy don't live like this (as in the video) day by day, this is a vacation video If you live in a normal city houses are different, streets are different, very few people live in these houses because they're very expensive to buy/rent, they're usually tourists spot If you're in a city, most shops are open all day except restourants Supermarkets are open all day even in most villages On Sunday most places are open This video is a FANTASY of Italy by a tourists not the actual reality
Comment from : Akane Tendo

Mario Pontremoli
You are comparing apples to oranges It's like I compare the lifestyle of a small village in Alabama with Milan What you showed regards 10 of Italians unfortunately Locations for tourists nothing to do with how 90 of the population is living

It’s not difficult to understand US is one big Marketing machine Everyone needs to have the newest technology, all the new things But does this makes you more happy? This doesn’t exist in Europe, even if I can easily afford a new IPhone I use my old one until it’s broken, because material stuff mean nothing to us We don’t need fancy bars or unnecessary luxury , we are just happy being surrounded by our family and friends and our life is far from being boring, because we are able to enjoy the little things in life

Good morning, your videos are very interesting I discovered them today and I was delighted to see two of them As regards your trip to Italy, you saw two very particular places, Manarola and Sardinia, which are an oasis of peace compared to the frenetic polluted cities of the north and where we run all day between work and shopping, the supermarket, household tasks, etc, etcand so you have an idea of Italy as if it were a paradise But we who live there and who were born here have many more problems to face such as lack of work, disorganization, corruption, scandals, injustices, taxes very high, the lack of work, low wages compared to Europe: things that tourists normally don't experienceTherefore I do not advise anyone to come and move to Italy but simply to come for some time on holiday so as to experience only the positive aspects, there are many negative aspects and this is said by a person who was born and raised in Italy and has toured various European countries to realize what life is like in the so-called pigs like Portugal and Greece which still maintain higher growth than Italy and even Russia which before the Ukrainian stage was in full economic development and now by reorganizing its resources it has not suffered any damage from the sanctions given by Europe instead, Italy has been worsening economically in terms of living standards in recent years, due to the increase in prices, the increase in raw materials and the cost of energy resourceswith the start of the Defense of Ukraine and the sending of weapons and the economic resources that we have dedicated to this country have produced a very important crisis in Italy and in which the funds to be dedicated to health and economic growth of the country and to send them to arms our young people do not have encouraging prospects for the future and have been forced for more than a decade to go abroad to find a job suited to their studies in Northern European countries the elderly are abandoned with their low pensions and find it increasingly difficult to live a dignified daily life while the middle age is used to produce wealth by constantly working with salaries that have remained fixed and firm for years and much lower than the European averages This is not the Italy of dreams! This is the Italian reality today Of course visiting two places like Sardinia and Manarola which is a place for rich tourists and with absolutely high prices for the 4 goods they sell and doesn't give a real insight into the age at this time You could have visited Milan Venice Florence or an important city like Rome or a very normal region like the Marches which is certainly less backward than a remote place like Sardinia or an elite area like Manarola And you would have had a real impression of what happens in 2023!

Take the "many brands of pasta sauces" You think you have choices in the US (I lived here for 30 years) but they are all crappy pasta sauces, same for cereals or other useless products There is no real variety in the true sense It is theater Americans live in a fake world It is fake choices and fake freedom Americans think they are unique individuals and it is one of the most conformist countries in the world

The only thing: do you know that in italy you have the eldest parents (when there firstborn is born) And a lot of young people will never have a child Just because it is to expensive! You have to work together as a couple fulltime just so you can buy a house And parttime isn't mainstream in italy Also the workschedule with the siësta is not workable for young parents So after all, Italy has really a problem Even that the more easy going lifestyle sound and feel great (especially when you are on a holiday)

This video is a complete fabrication from someone wjo clearly never met a real Italian and spent one month in a touristic location: my experience as Italian is that's the country where people work hard, usually to achieve very little I never worked less than 50 hours per week in Italy, in many wprking places you are also supposed to work on Saturdays without being paid overtime And yes, I worked in the US too, I would defintely confirm Italy is an harsher working environment overall, that's the reason why I moved abroad ten years ago I would suggest the lady who made this video to plan the next holiday in Milan and see what happens in the metro about 7:45
Comment from : Alessandro Cerioli

Susi Siebert
Well done you for questioning the over consumption of your American life I am from Belgium 🇧🇪 and we lived a much slower paced, sustainable lifestyle Now the Italians take it to a whole other level but also other countries take Siestas’!! But seeing how much walking you and your family did ( hubby not loving it so much ?! Lol) was wonderful And shopping daily instead of massive Costco shops, mind blowing? You’re way ahead of the curve

Before the war with the name of "trofie" were called gnocchi alla genovese, generally seasoned with pesto alla genovese In the fifties in the hamlets of Sori they began to prepare fresh pasta that you threw in the pot, calling it "trofie" or "trofiette" In any case, Sori's trofie should also be seasoned with pesto, possibly adding boiled potatoes and green beans Tomato sauce is stuff from Southern Italy (Naples and so) In Genoa, "o tucco" (the touch) is used to flavor ravioli (raieu in Genoese)

Please, no more Americans to Europe, and especially Italy You have no culture other than consumerism When you come here you turn everything into consumer tourism: you are destroying the housing market by raising prices because of your hunger for airbnb, you are lowering the food quality in restaurants because everything tastes great to you after a lifetime diet on american s**t food, you are destroying the soul of small towns by turning them into shopping boutiques Everything and everywhere is crowded because you can't drive and you can't even properly walk on a sidewalk - you just need to take 1000 pictures of every church!brPlease stay in redneck US! Two weeks in Italy is not going to turn you into a cultured person You will still not be able to speak any other language and you will still eat Mcdonalds and drink water mixed with coffee when you comeback

For all the Americans out here saying they moved to Europe or are thinking about moving to Europe: great for you, but please also think of how to bring this european rythm to the US Leaving this country makes sense, but it would be great to change it from within (especially regarding global warming which is linked to our way of living)

I am happy you had a nice trip in Italy All that you say it's correct BUT just for holidays If you really have to live here, you need to work and to do lot of things more In this case the life can't be so quite and relaxed Obviously nothing compared to USA, i think, because you want too much and this is not free you pay it with time of life, yours or of someone other (Just in my opinion, i have never been in USA)

Yes, bye ! this absolutely does not apply to the countries of the North! The siesta, the 2-hour closures, the slower rhythms in the North are a mirage! Luckily you only saw the "best" part in quotes of Italy! The Rhythms in the North especially in Milan are comparable to those of the big cities of the United States! brWith the cock that you take a "Siesta" in the north !

You call it "siesta" but it's "pausa-pranzo","lunch-time" It's normal in small town for shops to close like 2 or 3 hours for lunch and, yes, maybe a nap 😄 But that's not true in big cities and in "ipermarket" (the biggest supermarket)
Comment from : Nerd 89

Luca Lindemann
Thanks for this video You made the point, but it's not like this all over Italy In big northern cities like Milan where I work (born and lived, I moved to Lecco on the Lake of Como 3 years ago), we're much more "American life oriented" 😁brLife is fast, work is fast, we never stop and you can get everything you want at any hour But you're right, most of the people in Italy live in small/medium cities, where life is differentbrIn the 90s I lived for a while in LA (Santa Monica actually), and I travelled a lot USA (wonderful country and very nice people) I fell in love with Utah (Moab) and the great deserts, Canyonlands landscapes and spaces in Italy we don't have I dreamt to move there, some day but now that I'm 55, I appreciate my country back again, probably for the reasons You listed in this wonderful video Actually, I don't know if I would fit again in the "American way" 😁brThank You again for this video, it's a wonderful advertising for Italy! ❤

I've benne 18 days in the US this year from the death valley to yellowstone through Page Arizona The food choise there is limited Reataurant have hamburghers and steaks (the best meat I ever eat) but that's it the only places to buy food are gas station stops full of junk food or fast food the best you can expect is the smallest salad full of creamy souces The only limitation in italian food are the cereals boxes 😆
