This is so true I became a police officer in the early 2000's and absolutely loved it Policing started getting really bad around 2018 I couldn't do it anymore I took a job as a school resource officer at an elementary school and I absolutely love it I work by myself at my school and get to make my own decisions The last City agency that I worked for used to be super hard to get on Now they cannot fill positions and they will hire almost anybody They begged me not to quit and even offered me a promotion to stay but I had enough They haven't lowered the standards in my state but they will send people back through the academy when they fail A lot of agencies used to not do that but they're doing that more often nowadays Having said that, the background investigations for agencies has gotten a lot more lenient

13 years ago, while in my prime, I enthusiastically applied for my local Sheriff's Department; I passed their exam with flying colors, only to be turned away because I had just over $300 dollars in debt I couldn't afford to pay off at the time That turned me off from law enforcement for good, and I chose to serve in the military instead Nonetheless, it's lousy to see the profession hurt this way
