Learning japanese is so difficult it takes me like 20 seconds to read a sentence, I don't know almost any kanji, I can barely understand loose words from native speakers, I CAN'T EVEN WRITE CORRECTLY I NEED TO CHECK EVERY SINGLE THING I TYPE IN A TRANSLATOR BECAUSE I ALWAYS GET IT WRONG IT'S SO FRUSTRATING

What I did which was bad for my English and good for my non-native language was replace the words that I knew in English to the words I knew in different language Do not do this Your English will deteriorate rapidly

I learn 日本語 on Busuu and I only use Translation for a few verbs / Kanji if google say the right one (If i alrdy know it) I use it if not, I use the voice writing system (with high Low Pitch u need to use it or u get 例えばcow instat of bread😂) brbr[But dont Start learning if u dont know the Letters (for Japanese Kanji 漢字 r not letters they make ur life easier to read 😂)and dont use Romanji]brbrIf i read or listen i can understand 60 cuz Japanese has SOV and German/ english has SVObrU need to hear the full sectence to understand it brIn Busuu its 80-90 cuz i need to listen twice to it and i say the Translation loud out so i memorize it easier, i cant say for other but this helps me 👌

Hey Ruri, since this video was posted 1 year ago, I'm not really sure if you're going to see this, but I'll say it anywaysbrThank you so much for your videos; as an 18y old brazilian trying to learn as many languages that I can, your videos have been incredibly helpful in improving my understanding in English, they provide me with so many insights that I can use while learning other languages Oh, and what you said about your personality changing when you are speaking in another language is so damn real In my native language(brazilian portuguese) I'm kinda serious and don't smile too much, but when I speak in Korean, it seems like it isn't me anymore, I put more emphashis in my words and I become more expressive, it sounds really cool and crazy at the same time Until now I know Brazilian Portuguese, English and Spanish, right now I'm learning Korean and after I'm going for Japanese Again, thank you so much for your videos, you really help so many people across the world

1 There is no way u would be mistaken for a native speaker if you learn a second language after teenage years Well, there r exceptions for ppl with gift in languages For the rest, you will always sound like a foreigner 2 Being able to understand the meaning of a new word in the target language requires sufficient vocabulary in the target language to start with Otherwise you will simply be going round and round looking for explanations of words in target language from one entry in the dictionary to another Hence at the very beginning, some form of translations will be unavoidable

I'd never heard of that before, and it made me consider how my own personality changes when I switch languages I've noticed that I'm more reserved and observant in Spanish, but sillier and more sarcastic in English! I stopped watching after 7 minutes because this is exactly how I am learning Japanese I am now more and more often doing that spiderman thing with my hand because I'm getting so many things right and the phrases are looonnng I do look up the translation, but only after I have tried to answer it myself and I look at the definition and structure of the Japanese words instead of the English translation alone I'm sooo happy that I'm not being sh1t at languages Yayyy

I was in Germany for about 12 yrs I was a translator for the last 2 yrs I spoke so much German that my Brain actually flipped to where I was dreaming and thinking in German It took me about 6 months of constant English to get it back

I am Russian and I have never really learned English intentionally, however it has surrounded me most of my life because of the Internet and thus almost without any effort I know English at a fairly good level now It was a very strange and pleasant feeling when I realized that I no longer translate english words, but understand them even without it, as if I were listening to my native language It's funny how you can learn a whole language just because it's constantly spoken on the internet

I made it that thinking in another language which is Korean but it doesn’t work for eng as my mother tongue, Turkish has a completely different grammar from English and I don’t sound natural when I’m speaking English

I learned Mandarin for six years with an immersive teaching style when I was very young and even though I've forgotten most of it I can still hear certain phrases and just understand them but not be able to say what they mean in English But I still get it Now though I'm mainly learning French and Swedish and because I'm still mentally translating my brain chooses whichever language it translates to faster So I sometimes swap words between languages while speaking in my French class Which is usually okay because we're only docked points on our speaking grades if we use English

It's been 8 years and I'm still trying to find my personality in Chinese I'm a native English speaker and my personality always changes depending on who I'm talking to In Chinese, I'm mainly talking to my tutors so I'm more reserved because I don't want to make mistakes I'm sure when I'm more confident, I may adopt the more indirect Chinese personality

I have never heard the idea of different personalities in different languages, but it's true in my experiencebrbrWhen I'm learning vocabulary, I try not to equate the words to words in my native language, but to emojis or symbols, in order to allow my brain to work in just one language and not have to use my native language as well

This is what I've been thinking about Sometimes I have hard times finding the right words to translate to Russian from English or vice versa on the spot, but I have no problem describing it in the same language I even think in English separately from my native language Around 5 years ago when I started to read visual novels in English I've decided not to translate but to understand it in English Guess that's what made it like a second native to me
