After using this amp live for several months now, I can honestly tell you that the best tone you can get out of it is to run a multieffect unit into the power amp in and basically use it as a PA speaker

Line 6 dropped the ball on the Catalyst series Look at all the big price drops these days ! Only 1 effect to change, how stupid and short-sighted of line 6, if you want to compete in the Boss Katana arena I would be happy to pay € 100 extra if they just put the guts of the Helix Pod Go in this amp, including the lcd screen, and make it fully compatible with their FBV 3 for people who like to use that That would have been a lot more successful, in my opinion

Intially bought the Catalyst 60 for bedroom practice & loved it Thought it sounded much better than my Katana 50 EX However, Ive now bought the Cat200, which I use at home on the 0 5W setting & it sounds so good with it's two speakers 😅 🤟

I’ve owned a Katana 212 for a few months and there’s just something about that doesn’t click with me I think it’s cool what can be done with Tone Studio, and I can dial in some pretty good sounds, but it all seems to take too much work for the end result The UI of Tone Studio is awful, and makes patch editing slightly unpleasant at best I don’t like that you have basically no idea what the effects knobs are set to without the computer attached, and as cool as the configurability is, the poor interface makes it all feel overwhelmingbrbrI ended up picking up a Line 6 Pod and I’m just loving it The sounds are top notch, and the patch editing interface is totally intuitive and a breeze to use brbrSo, unhappy with the Katana, I ordered a Line 6 Catalyst I think the sounds and simplicity will appeal to me; and if I need more in the way of effects, I can also run it through my Pod Go using the FX loopbrbrThe Katana is great but Boss really needs to work on the UI Like, seriously …

It’s a decent little modelling amp brbrIt sounds ok brbrI do have some constructive feedback: the indicator light to show your voicing could be much more clear brbrNo compressor? Seems like a big omission for someone that might want a lead tone

Did you actually just test out a Line 6 amp without testing out the hi gain settings? That's a pretty essential part of the amplifier, I'd think I don't really have an idea on whether or not this amp is any good for me at this point

This amp has good clean and boutique sounds, and works very well with the Helix and Pedals I like the Katana, but I prefer the Catalyst for clean I got one

As a gigging musician, I use the 60 watt on clean with no effects as a pedalplatform for rehearsal and on stage through the PA Hardly use my tube amps anymore It's light, silent, affordable and you can throw it around It's perfect

Nice review The Catalysts are an attractive package and sound good I understand why Line 6 decided to limit options on this design just really wish they hadn’t dropped the effects choices down to just a single effect + reverb If you want, say, the popular combination of 2 effects such as any modulation and delay …I guess you’re bringing pedals brbrAlso wish the 2x12 combo was a stereo configuration…or that a stereo config was available at a higher price pointStereo is an awesome sound Some Helix users are plugging into Catalysts as a live monitoring solution More would do so if stereo was available

I wonder, if you used a certain combination of settings to play a "clean" line on the Catalyst, without showing it in the video, and said that you are playing on a blackface Fender amp, how many would rise up in righteous anger and call you a liar? First of all Darrellthank you for not spending time showing off your guitar playing skills, of which I'm sure they're great, and rather, spending time showing us the features , tones and sounds of the amp As a professional musician and guitar player for many years, too many times I watch a review only to get the reviewer spending all their time showing off as opposed to actually reviewing the product So again, thank you! You hit on a point with Line 6 that has always made me kinda grumpythat is the effects on say, the Line 6 Spider V 120, of which I have one and play through on a semi-regular basis are not easy to understand, or put to practical use And you pointed this out with the Catalyst Although there's a pretty big difference in the two amps, it still spills over into this ampand counterintuitive is an appropriate term in this regard The original set-up you used with the delay and reverb sounded almost perfect, a sound that a lot of professionals look for right off the bat as it seemingly covers a clean sound and tone, as well as when bringing on the distortion I've been looking for something I could use here at home that would cover all my bases, as I have a home recording studio and I pretty much stick to recording here at home The Spider V 120 has become tiresome as it requires too much monkeying around with (so to speak) to get the exact tone and sound I want depending on what I'm trying to do at any particular moment I'll be giving the Catalyst much more thought after your review, which by the way again, was very good and very much appreciated!

I use HX Effects + Catalyst 100 in 4CM with MIDI to change the amp model and turn the amp boost on/off It works greatbrbrWhile the onboard effects are good, the lack of visibility and control isn't good I keep the amp effects off Also, getting to the amp presets from the amp control panel works, but isn't user friendly especially on a gig because you will need to adjust settings for the room, and throughout the gig At the very least it should have a bank display (1-6) IMObrbrI'd much rather have a Crunch 2 than the Dynamic / Kinetic amp model A classic crunch and a modern crunch would be sweetproviding a few more amp models allowing users to change amp models in the 6 slots with the Catalyst Edit Software would be nice too brbr I use Clean, Boutique and Chime mostly for cleans, ambient, and crunch for edge of breakup brbrThe crunch is definitely in the '70s, if you want earlier or later, you'll need a pedalbrbrThe Dynamic/Kinetic is my least favorite so far, but I may revisit it because it's there taking up usable spacebrbrFinally the Hi Gain is usable but not versatile, I find using an EQ in my HX Effects at the end of the signal chain really lets me dial in what I want (this works on the other amp models too)brbrAll in all, for the price, features and versatility it's very good Adding the HX effects takes it to another level brbrIMO / IME

I noticed we didn't get a sound sample on the high gain setting! lol I have this amp and I agree that the high gain setting is the weakest of the six Very good amp For a beginner it's a no brainer I also have the similar Boss Katana I'd give the Catalyst about 7 out of 10, and the Katana about 9 out of 10 The Katana sounds a little bit more organic to me, and it has the dedicated acoustic setting But either amp will totally get the job done and give you hours of inspiring sounds

I think it sells it short to refer to it as a "practice" or "entry level" amp It does too much You can gig with it, you can absolutely record with it The App is way better and offers more options than using the panel It's actually a little complicated at times, which doesn't say "entry" to me Great video though, just my thought I think you're right about what it does well and where it could be better

I have an older Line 6 Spider IV amp It turns on, but there’s no sound, though it buzzes when the Jack is pushed in, or out Many people seem to have had the same breakdown problem Trying to get support for me, was impossible A guy on YouTube said he could show people how to fix it and just produces a few diagrams that nobody knew what to do with That’s fixed it, he said, but didn’t show anyone a video of how he supposedly fixed it (everyone was in disbelief)brI wouldn’t venture to buy one again

I have a katana 50 mkii which allows multiple types of boost/overdrive with separate mod and delay The Catalyst seems to only offer 1 boost mode and you can only do delay or mod but not both at same time based on the reviews I've seen But great sounding amp and the 60 comes with fx loop which katana 50 does not unfortunately

For the price this amp sounds really good! And it would sound even better with a good quality 8 ohms speaker 4 ohms speakers don't sound as good as 8 or 16 ohms speakers But with an 8 ohms speaker, this 100 watts solid state transistor amp will drop to 50 watts which is still quite powerful
