"dispensers are an USA thing" I've never saw one without the dispenser Comment from : DerivativeOfLog7 |
Great video How do you feel about washing nonstick pots and pans in the dishwasher? Comment from : slimon8 |
The stuff about the dispenser not being a thing overseas is just not true And powder detergent works better, partly because there is an auto dehardener build in with dehardening salts and an ionic exchanger Comment from : The idiot said: |

My Kenmore sanitizer is amazing, heated dry the coup de grace Comment from : calculusentropy |
Don’t forget to clean out the filters inside your dishwasher! I just did and it was crazy how much build up of old food etc was clogging everything up! Make sure the holes are clear where the water shoots out of the rotating blades too There are videos on YouTube that show you how to do this Comment from : naznow |
The plastics gum up the machine over time as well as your Garbage disposal and your house pipes The plastics are very, very bad for the actual piping and can damage either a pumpbrIn the motor or the pump for the drain I replaced both and they were gunked with the plastic The powders are the better bet Because they do not damage the machines nor your sewer system Even our town is asking, it's citizens not to use it Because the sewer system is being impacted by these gel packsbrbrYou also did not talk about citric acid and the maintenance on the machines Comment from : Jordana S |
I keep a 1 tbsp scoop in the DW powder, in a big container A quick scoop into a the pre wash and 1 into the wash Easy and works perfectly Can easily scale up or down as needed depending on how grimy the dishes are Comment from : Michael Robison |
According to my appliance repairman, powder Gels gum up the machines Comment from : L A 70S |
I learned that I shouldn’t store my powders under the sink Even if I’m hiding them from the police Comment from : Christopher Anderson |
A couple things as well - Gels excel in quick wash cycles They don’t need time to dissolve unlike powders Also, rinse aids don’t get rinsed off from your dishes which is why the machine dispenses it during the last rinse cycle That’s why when you bring a drinking glass to your mouth, you smell the fragrance of the detergent, and your essentially eating and drinking off your dishes and glasses that has a chemical residue on them Really not good for your health! Comment from : Edouard Chehab |
Toxic waste that sewer plants can’t deal with Enjoy swimming in your local river! Comment from : kurt housh |
Oh no, I stacked 2000 bottles of liquid detergent 🤣 Comment from : SigneDeLaCroix |
I found that powders left a red stain on my plastic cutting board and inside the dishwasher (no tomato/red food present) It disappeared when I switched to liquid Comment from : jbahur |
I've found as long as my dishwasher sprayers and filter clean, the type of detergent doesn't really matter Comment from : John Ellison |
Using liquid gell, has no bleach My dishwasher is definitely 30 years old, trouble free! Never missed a beat 👍🇦🇺 Comment from : jlmackey 7 |
Love the reference to @TechnologyConnectionsbrbrThe gel packs do add plastics into the surface water That's why I stick with powders Also in Europe you'll mostly find dishwashers with dispensers Comment from : Marcel de Jong |
Anything I need to be aware of using a dishwasher with a septic system? Comment from : BreadAndGatorade |
Enzymes don't "eat the food" they break the long chains of carbon and proteins into simple compounds of amino acids and simple sugars Bacteria can "eat" Comment from : reflectionsdetail |
Excellent video I learned a lot from this Thank youbrbrOn a side note, what is your opinion and or have you done a video on, washing hats in the dishwasher? Comment from : JME R |
I've been using gel and it has worked well, but will try the powder now Comment from : Matt |
Thanks for the informative video I guess I'm was not also educated on dishwasher detergent but also made aware that I'm at that age now damnbrbrAlso I didn't know that water was getting that much expensive in the US that it would be worth even to discuss it It's pretty cheap in GermanybrbrOne thing though I've never seen a dishwasher without an dispenser in my lifetime (born in 1986) and I was purchasing them for one of the big 5 online shops for 2-3 years We bought from everywhere in the EU (ie Poland, Luxemburg, Austriaetc) Comment from : Iwonttellmy nametoamachine |
I put my Seventh Generation pods directly in the basket on the top rack Sometimes if you put the pods in the tray, they might not fall out when the door automatically opens Putting the pods directly into the basket that the pod is supposed to fall into assures that it’s being used and I like having it dissolved in the beginning of the cycle Comment from : HarmonsHarbor |
So much great information! Thanks so much for the detail Comment from : Sandra Gostanian |
I’m officially 35 years old 🎉 Comment from : bun boi |
I don't mind spending extra on the pods, but I really do hate the amount of plastic packaging that usually comes with them (thinking of the bulk, resealable packs) I tried using powder, and it worked well at first But like a dingus, I stored it under the sink, so that's a good tip to be aware of Comment from : Jason Howell |
We use Cascade and it works quite well We really should start using a rinse agent Cheers! Comment from : sherlock1895 |
I use Costco Kirkland packs that are powder filled Also use finish rinse aid in tandembrbrI lightly rinse them in the sink to get the big food particles Comment from : Martin Lopez |
Disagree with not pre-washing by hand For certain foods like starchy rice or eggs, a normal cycle doesn't always clean the dish (IME) Comment from : MadLadsAnonymous |
I got the best dishwasher ever made her name is Charlene didn’t cost me a nickel “YET”🚰🤰 Comment from : Captain Truth |
No Dispensers are not "a USA thing"brAll European brands have it In fact, I have never, ever seen a dishwasher without dispenser in my life! Comment from : TheAllMightyGodofCod |
I like powder the most however, in my country, I can only find Finish classic powder or classic powder from other brands They have the weakest cleaning abities Switching to all in 1 max gel or pods, they work noticeably better due to higher amount of cleaning agents, but still not 100 clean Comment from : Dang Khoa |
MIELE ULTRA TABS are all I use AMAZING!!! worth every penny! Comment from : Dennis |
I like powder, genuinely couldn’t tell you why But I do and i’m in my 30’s, so now I can have a harsh opinion on a home care thing without reasoning for it Comment from : AJC |
Great Video! Just one thing that made me think, what? I am from Germany and our Dishwashers have Dispensers too, I work in an electronics store for 15 years now and have never seen a Dishwasher without one Comment from : Stefan Kropf |
Use white vinegar as your rinsing agent leaves everything spotless including your dishwasher, leaves it looking new every time and only costs 2 dollars a gallon Comment from : Rick Smith |
Yeah, I'm gonna go with powder and using the pre-wash cup (or sprinkling a little extra in the tub before you start washing) I don't know about the dishwashers being sold today, but my 5 year old top-of-the-line LG has a proper prewash cycle that lasts around 15-20 minutes, so plenty of time to get the surface food off of the dishes Plus, the vast majority of dishwashers out there are not brand new, so I'm sure that they have a long enough pre-wash cycle to use the detergent Comment from : Doug Perrenoud |
That’s nuts I have tried them all and so far loving the gel in AZ water works great for me 😮 Comment from : Kevin Mengus |
Whoa whoa whoa brWe’re rinsing milk tomato and egg yolk‽ these are exceptions to the DO NOT RINSE rule? Comment from : paulec252 |
never in my life have i used rinse aids nor prewash I have also always quickly just ran my plate/bowl under some running water to get rid of the worst parts, no scrubbing or soap, just a quick rinse Never have i had problems with the dishes coming out dirty, wet or any problems with glass ruined or water droplets leaving marks, nor would i care, it's just water But i also dont live with "hard" water Comment from : Royal Republican |
Im confused on why you say that gel packs won't etch your dishes, from what i understand, dish etching occurs from using to much soapbrbrIt would seem to me that alway being forced to use the maximum dosage every time would be the most likely to etch dishes Comment from : KUR0N3KO-5AMA |
Buy the cheap aldi pod It's cheap it's clean Comment from : Anubizz slayer |
Awesome discussion - well presented thank you Comment from : Tony TBD |
1 Capsules are the most convenient because they have it allbr2 If you use detergent, you also need dryer liquid That's way to much inconvenience, plus more expensive Comment from : Gandalfwiz2007 |
What’s best for a short wash? Comment from : Samuel |
Just get the cheapest powder detergent All the detergents are basicly the same Pods are the same as the powder, but sold with higher price and packaked seperately Comment from : Manuzki |
Technology connections fans rise up! Comment from : CampfireCrucifix |
I prewash because my landlord put a piece of sh*t washer in my apartment I'll use less water when someone buys me a f*cking house Comment from : Prax Zimmerman |
So I usually use cascade packs in the main wash but there is a pre wash divot and I usually use cascade liquid gel in that area What do you think about that? You said liquids are the worst but when they say prewash (it’s a fairly new washer too) does that mean adding a liquid? Other things like powder and packs won’t stick to that spot anyway Thanks! Comment from : Ken Guie |
This man doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Modern dishwashers have a water softener built in, even in Europe ( in fact I think they were the first to introduce this) Dishwashers were designed to use power, that’s why they have a main dispenser and a pre wash dispenser, also a compartment for rinse aid, You can also add salt for the water softener It’s not rocket science, come on !!! Therefore pod etc are just a gimmick Comment from : Derek Holmes |
I tried not washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and my wife got mad at me Comment from : Srow |
This is his job, and he does it well His wife still argues witih him that he is doing it wrong Comment from : Jason Wojcik |
Great information Thank you! Comment from : Debra Sampson |
I've sworn off powders ever since I've had to beat out years of powder detergent buildup in drains, drain pumps and spray arms doing appliance repair They also absolutely love to attack heating elements I've never had issues using enzyme liquids for a while Comment from : DGTelevsionNetwork |
I use either pods or powder for the main container and liquid gel for the pre-wash I've got surprisingly good results doing it that way and now I know why Comment from : Master Shake |
Gel pacs take away the user’s ability to avoid etching in all but the hardest water conditions as it’s always the maximum dosage The inside of your detergent dispenser has three lines in it representing the different amounts of detergent you should use depending on the iron content in your water Low iron or soft water requires the least amount of detergent to perform and if too much detergent is used for the hardness level your glassware and the glaze on your dishes will etch over time and the damage cannot be reversed It will also leave a haze on stainless steel flatware and cookware which may require a metal polish to remove It’s best to use powder, start out with the lowest line in the dispenser and move up to the next level if needed to avoid damaging your tableware Comment from : Bruce Solomon |
Only Powder and gels allow you to add detergent during the first rince part of the wash cycle That's what the indent or second receptacle is for Tablets and packs do not So they have to compensate Comment from : DJ Arvandus |
We are on a well, so we have very hard water The second your dishwasher ends, drape a long towel in the door, this will catch the hard water steam from settling Comment from : KAW |
I have that dispenser in the video & was wondering how to tell how much rinse agent i used in the last wash and how much I need to add Theres a little window there but i still cant tell how much fluid is there Comment from : Danny D |
Will someone be kind enough to post a summary here? This video was not made for ADHD folks Comment from : Kimia |
Thanks for the video! Very informative Comment from : Chrissy Anderson |
Powder is the no brainer It's cheaper by a great margin and you can manage easily how much you want to use for the prewash and main wash Comment from : Austin Michael |
I use Finish Powder for my dishdrawers The cost savings is significant $469 for a 75 oz box I use a medicine cup to measure about 15-20 grams/load I also use a dishwasher cleaner monthly to ensure the dishwasher stays clean and in good working order That, snd cleaning the filters and spray arms are a must!!! Comment from : Glazier DC |
The elephant on the table here is that recent dishwashers have an 18 month lifespan Comment from : Whiteboytripping |
Can you clarify that aside about dishwashers not using pre-wash cycles? Seems like most folks in the comments share my impression that the pods’ weakness is not supplying any detergent for that cycle If there’s an actually good reason for the industry to switch to pods other than profit motive, would be good to know Comment from : Jamie Sandel |
What is an appropriate amount to use for powders? Comment from : YoSpiff |
2:00 or you can just put powder detergent on the bottom of the dishwasher for prewash Comment from : Andrew |
Oh, right, I'm in my 30's now, this is now peak entertainment Comment from : JackFisher |
I get to snake the drains when the lines backup If I don’t pre-rinse will the food particles from the dishwasher require me to snake my drains more frequently? Comment from : Love your enemy |
i was looking for someone to explain me this because i am hating all the manufacturers , most of the pods i have been buying a lot come together like glue and i rip them apart trying to separate them , this is plain robbery , is there any indications on what enzymes they use? i want to search for the ingredient and try and make it my self Comment from : boxfabio |
Every other video I've watched about this say the pods are the worst Comment from : Michael Jones |
Can you do a similar thing for front-load) washing machines? Is it the same? Comment from : Red |
Using pods skips the whole pre wash cycle of your dishwasher The liquid detergents can be placed in your pre wash and main wash Thus, your dishwasher does a full wash with detergent I used pods for a long time and the dishes come cleaner using liquid because it actually does the pre wash Comment from : myriadcorp |
So this guy is being paid off by the detergent companies Makes sense Comment from : computerkid1416 |
Most of the newer machines don’t have soft food disposals anymore so therefore all the food scraps go nowhere so the dishes need to be scraped Comment from : MIKE STANLEY |
What would you recommended for people who have water softner Comment from : joe m |
This is the best summary I've ever seen on this topic I love the level of detail he went into Comment from : Gary |
many thanks Comment from : Ethan |
Dispensers are not "a US thing" Comment from : Erik Eriksson |
My experience is the exact opposite of yours Pods/packs are the worst by a country mile or 10 for several reasons:brbr1 Way too much detergent - always leaves residue on dishesbr2 No pre-wash separation means my dishes aren't as clean as with gel or powder (Tried both)br3 More expensive Comment from : RedBeardedRabbit |
I've lived overseas for over 20 years and every dishwasher I have come across has a dispenser This was still great information though, I appreciate it Comment from : MixedCrunchy |
Very informative video, but the background was music distracting Comment from : TheMrleo007 |
I use Finish Packs, and rinse aidI sold appliances for 8 years and told folks it depends on the machine, the maintenance of the machine and your water qualityI clean the filters and use a cleaner once a monthI have probably the hardest water in the country and my dishwashers stainless tub is just as sparkly and clean as day 1 almost 6 years later Comment from : Nobody |
Enzymes aren’t alive What are you even talking about? Bacteria? That’s not the same thing as an enzyme Comment from : Akompliss Gaming |
I switched to Lemishine recently and I love it Works just as good as the 2 big expensive brands and costs less Also, supposedly better for the environment Thanks for the video Comment from : KnotSlip |
