The only possibility of making a profit was a valuable wheat cent in the roll One time I read a description of the wheat cent version of a grab bag and it read on one line "we rolled the collection into rolls" and a couple lines down says " we opened a few rolls to get an idea of what's inside and found so and so" 🙄

I'm pretty sure these aren't designed to make the buyer money I think its meant as an easy introduction to coin collecting for someone new to the hobby If the seller gave you equal value or greater than you paid that wouldn't be a very good business model I agree however that including counterfeit items is scummy

I bought several pounds of old Roman coins over a decade ago sure, you can easily clean them via electrolysis which makes them shiny and is fast but the best way is to just soak them in distilled water for years yes, YEARS changing the water every few months It'll help them maintain their patina and the biggest thing you want to avoid is bronze disease since it can spread among old bronze (aka Roman etc) coins If the coins have that green or blue hue to them, they have it so separate those out of the rest of the population Those are just prolly best being electrolyzed which kills the bronze disease and reveals all of the remining details (lowering value as being CLEANED) but, ehh, shiny 2000 year old coins still sell brAs for the soakers, scrub them with a toothbrush every time you change the water One bronze disease coin can spread it to others, especially soakingbrEventually you will get some beautiful old coins with patina and details but DO NOT ever expect to find silver or gold in 'ancient roman coin' random lotsbrExpect old bronze coins you need to clean and hope for some Caesar that is worth $$$
