Great content RS Nice step-by-step process for better amp tone controlbrbrHow do you go about overall volume while also achieving the desired tone on amps, pedals and guitar simultaneously? It seems the point is often to turn the volume up - but high volume can be very impractical brbrWould be great to hear some thoughts on volume levels on guitar + pedals + amp (+ mixer when miced up) Preferably in different situations like studio playing, bedroom, band practice, concert, ectbrbrAny reference to other videos on this topic? Comment from : Emil Muff |
Your opener had a great mix Comment from : choim dachoim |
Interestingly, the eq on the lead channel makes the amp sound more like a Marshall as you turn the tone and mid controls clockwise Certainly versatile! Clever design! Comment from : morbidrockerdude |
Just what I needed to see, thank you Comment from : Jeff Xanders |

Thanks Rhett, I have been playing guitar for 4 years now I use a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, and I am trying to find a blues(SRV/Buddy Guy) tone I will apply this to my amp soon Thanks again! :) Comment from : Michael Stinson |
Part of it is that beautiful break-up, but the rest of it is a perfectly intonated guitar It really does make all the difference If you can play up and down the neck and the guitar is intonated well and there's a little bit of gain breakup on the output, it's the holy trifecta Comment from : dedballoons |
So basically adjust until it sounds good Awesome Comment from : RED CHERRY 69 |
Great vid, with tons of info!! Comment from : Marty Davis Davis |
you might be suprised at the metal tones if you have a good distortion pedal Comment from : Music is Fun |

Great intro song! Comment from : drumbyte |
I play thur a 80’s HIWATT DR504 I use both volumes and have tried this method and it really made a difference in the tone I was trying to get in my head Pedals also sound richer and are easier to dial in now that I’m starting with a cleaner Slightly overdriven tone When I’m doing a indoor or outdoor gig I now just have to adjust the volume and tweak the mids a bit Overall this method I find really works so thanks for sharing with us Comment from : Greg Bronson |

Just picked up this same Amp, in the combo with the same CME-exclusive (to the US) lacquered tweed, less than a year old, in like-new condition Likely cured my amp quest for a good long time to come Scratched the BF and Tweed itches in the right places for my wants Comment from : Les Caster |

Hi Rhett Currently laid up at home with a broken leg and I have been catching up with your great informative videos and repeating some of them You have a really good approachable presentation style Don't change it's all good I am a new but old budding rhythm type guitarist who jams with a really good drummer playing my rhythm chord based version of the old classics Hendrix Santana JJ Cale Fleetwood Mac Briefly I struggle to get a nice clean tone for singing and a meatier tone for more driving songs without that muddy tone from my Blues Junior amp A Mex Strat HSS with tone control on the back H pickup A USA Tele custom Humbucker at the neck Happy with my gear but my inexperience marginalises the sound I have a boost and inexpensive overdrive Keeping it simple Rhett could you give me ball park settings Bass Treble and Mids for a clean tone sound and meatier tone with my boost pedal How long is a piece of string right? You understand the strengths and weaknesses of that amp Any advice would be wonderful I do jot expect a lengthy reply you are a very busy guy with your top channel Thanks again Rhett Tom UK Comment from : Tom Bain |

Thx for sharing and well explained Haven’t read thru all 1K+ comments so may be repeating this which has already been said but this goes along with the saying ‘Use your ears; not your eyes’ Listen to what your amp has to offer and not just turn the knobs to where you think they should go or where so and so has their amp set at Thanks RS ! 👍🏽 Comment from : CoachP7 |
Try the same with your guitar’s (and pedals) tone controls too Particularly with single coils It will tame that extra brightness you might have when the amps treble control is dialed in Comment from : Reuben Solly |
how to dial a Fender blues jr 4? Comment from : Robertas |
Question to Rhett or anyone reading these comments:
brHow and when do you set the the tone on the guitar?
brWide open?
brmid way?
brDo you adjust it once the amp is adjusted, or before?
brThank you Comment from : slefou |
what an intro ! wow Comment from : The Moaning Carper |
Nice riffs Rhett Comment from : Al DiTo |
An expansion of the old adage "set the controls with your ears not your eyes" Though think his amp sounds best with the gain cranked He's thinking classic rock and I'm thinking Black Sabbath Comment from : Crunch2 |
Great sounds you're getting out of that Tone King Looks killer to with the tweed tolex I'm loving my Deluxe Reverb which I got recently Just attenuating the Volume at 6 ish and drive it with pedals But man they didn't lie about those Jensen speakers being bright Comment from : Eugene Blommaert |
Where do you set your guitar tone control when dialing the basic tone of the amp? Wide open, or do you roll off the treble a bit to give you room to adjust? Comment from : Rocky |
Lovely and useful video! I learn to play with a Fender solid state amp wich was good for the time (20 ya) but never could get a decent sound from it Nowadays I play at home and rehearsals with a head and cab Epiphone Valve Jr, with some mods: a tone pot, which activates a booster, a volume pot and three gain positions in a switch Its an amazing amp and it gives to me all I want! I also have a vintage 71' plexi (its a weird history, it was a gift) and to the moment I didnt use it so much Too loud and quite delicate This last week I also got another vintage amp a class A from the 60's with two speakers, the big one is elliptical (20x10 cm) and the other smaller, for the trebbles Its a 4w amp with two tubes and is really lovely, just one volume pot, which also works as an on/off! All of them are quite different and I love them all Anyways, if I had to choose, the Epiphone is my all in one: kinda low to practice at home, but loud enough to play with drums, small and portable (the plexi is a monster) and a really lovely sound It crunchs so hard with a fuzz and sounds perfect with some delay for the melodies Its all what it needs and all what I want! Comment from : earan |
I have an Ashdown Little Bastard 30W that does not even have a gain knob Very analog and highly variable tone based on the EQ Great very pure amp but it requires a lot of experimentation Comment from : David |
"Full transparency, Tone King gave me this amp and didn't ask me to do a certain video" Yeah? you think it's OK? Yeah? You think Mozart is a decent composer? Yeah? You think Einstein was smart? Here, have a Lambo and see what you think?brI don't think Ali needs us to confirm he's a decent boxer That's how I feel about Tone King They're pretty good and don't need anyone to tell them so 🙂brNext time, try to do a video on how to make a Tone King sound bad That'd be interesting Comment from : Brent Arnesen |
Awesome dude🤙🏼 Comment from : Diego Poses |
