Well, that happens anywhere in the world Rental Business is where owners get their needs as a source of income This should not be a charity for some reasons that the landlord's own family will suffer in the long run because of the inflation happening around the world Here in Asia is also like that anyway Comment from : Paulie Jojo |

Australia imported too many foreign workers last 3 years Non-skilled migrants They are everywhere aound 370 000 according to news TV 9 They imported them for Corona Virus shortages of workers They are staying here now doing nothing The problem is that they have money I don't know how, but they bid and increase rents everywhere Problem can be solved but obviously this artificial increase of rents is welcome by the government The Government has issued visas to NON skilled migrants and they don't send them back after Corona virus So , pronlem is created and high bills for australian renters are not over We will see, how this punishment to Australians will end! This tenant pays for an accommodation servicebrbrIt is none of his business what the LL might do with the rental incomebrbrHe might use some or all of it to service finance conmitments of the property or he might not!brbrThe LL is ENTITLED to spend the rental income on what he wantsbrbrHe might CHOOSE to spend it all on wine; women and song and waste the rest!brbrbrIt is entirely the prerogative of of the LL as to what he does with the rental income for the accommodation service he providesbrbrWe hear it time and time agsin from whingeing tenants that they are paying the LL mortgagebrbrEven if they are it is totally irrelevantbrbrThe tenant is paying for an accommodation service brbrIt is IRRELEVANT how that service is being provisioned Comment from : Paul Barrett |

Media just hypes up issues The high rents are mainly in big cities (not cities but big cities) Other places are still not that bad brRemove big cities like London, Amsterdam, NewYork, Paris, Delhi, etc are the situation is not that badbrbrSo the governments should be blamed for letting companies be established in one area alone Comment from : firstpost commenter |

The issue is that either the renter or the owner must in some way pay insurance and property taxes if they want a "permanent roof" with utilities like electricity, gas and water Because of this, many people—at least in California, where I currently reside—are living in tents No taxes, rent, mortgages, or insurance The number of people who tell me they live in their car that I meet amazes me Its crazy out here! You choose to be what you are in life and there has to be some accountability You get leeways for being born the way you chose to be, and now you want to be what you're not in order to enjoy those benefits, too So are you willing to relinquish the benefits that come with what is perceived to be your unfortunate beginnings in life to taste the fruits? Comment from : Phoenix Swanson |
|
Well they're slaves The rich are very clever The increase in rent is a result of the mass influx of immigrants These immigrants aren't going to revolt and take down a government that has given them residency status With immigrants set to outnumber the locals ten to one in the next fifteen years, three white families are going to be very happy Comment from : Phoenix Swanson |

Notjust a london problem, there are cities allover the world like thisBut i sense many big companies buy up places and rent out to sustain pension funds and they with estate agents push the prices up and private landlords i suspent just follow the market I could not afford to live in Aberdeen back in the 80,s because of an oil boom Did not moan about it ,thats just what it was ,moved to devon ,house was cheap ,was best move There are no guarantees in life ,and if many that moan about cost owed a house or two and were making big on it ,would they be any different to the people that do Stop moaning move or get a higher paying job Comment from : Michael Benton |
|
I am a landlady owing 20 properties in Bangkok The rent is down 12-15 as tenants can't afford to pay at the same level before Covid They have no money even to pay for the deposit People are struggling with high inflation We all need to help and support one another in bad time Comment from : Supranee Benjamanee |
|
As a realtor in my opinion, a housing market crash is imminent due to the high number of individuals who purchased homes above the asking price despite the low interest rates These buyers find themselves in precarious situations as housing prices decline, leaving them without any equity If they become unable to afford their homes, foreclosure becomes a likely outcome Even attempting to sell would not yield any profits This scenario is expected to impact a significant number of people, particularly in light of the anticipated surge in layoffs and the rapid increase in the cost of living Comment from : bernado felix |

So one thing I thought of when watching this was the fact in the US the vast majority of mortgages are fixed rate and therefore homeowners will always have to pay the same amount every month (of coarse property tax can change at a few percent per year) In the UK many are variable so when the UK raises interest it also raises how much owners need to pay and therefore they how much they need to get from renters Now don’t get me wrong I’m sure there are bad owners out there who are just trying to drain as much money as possible from renters, but I think a large portion actually need the rent increases to stay afloat brbrWhy does the UK mortgage system have such a high amount of variable rates? Comment from : ShotYall |

8:07 Katinka Hill @Chestertons says "The market is driving this, not estate agents and not landlords and I think that's probably the misconception Tenants know they have got to spend over the asking price We're not necessarily asking them to do that They are coming forward with a really good offer because if they don't offer that they're going to lose out" brbrThis BS is why estate agents have such a poor reputation - you create the spin and defensively state it's the tenants' fault?!?!? brbrThe market (as you state) is a combination of landlords, driven by the market for sure, but also by estate agents and your commissions Be honest, tell it like it is You are doing very well out of this, and in the meantime there are tens of thousands of people highly-stressed and financially screwed by the very landlords you represent Greed is driving this, and companies like yours are a clear, present (and large) cog in that engine of greed Shame on you and shame on the landlords Money is important to us all, but greed is a deadly illness Comment from : Neil Wood |
|
It’s a shame born and bread Londoners are not automatically entitled to social housing it’s our right, just like when we are given our NI The properties could either be given back if we so wish or invest for our children Comment from : laura Atkinson |

It's time for a Revolution - just not some dumb right wing populist crap that's beside the point, but a truly social-democratic end to the brutalist economic inequality created by neoliberalism since the 1980s Comment from : Duke de PallMall |
|
I would think that renters massively lobbying their MPs and representatives on local councils might be able to see legislation passed that limits rent increases to no more than the rate of inflation or bank interest rates, whichever is greater The rate of inflation will be greater, but that will still be WAY less than the percentage increases these landlords are demanding They can't blame their demands on their costs, since the bank interest rates on their mortgages will be lower tha the rate of inflation Comment from : MoonlightSonata |
|
British are World's biggest beggars who looted trillions of wealth from Asian and African countries These beggars don't have courtesy to return the artifacts and cultural valuables to those countries whom they have looted for centuries and making their lives out of profit UK is most poorest country even miserable than lot of African countries Comment from : harish kumar |

The most advanced economies, the most developed NATIONS and the most qualified professionals preaching, teaching and advocating thier systems across nations are now on the verge of collapse We in INDIA do not allow rental inceease more than 10 each year Generally, tha landlords never ask for maximum increase of 10 but they usually keep the rental increase between 5 to 7 The RERA in India and UAE are very strict and protect tenants from unreasonable rental increases The housing problems in India is to a minimal when it comes to very poor and homeless people I am hoping that our country and society do not follow suit, bcos we are all learning, remodeling, adapting and implement the UK US and western world's economy and Govt policies😢😢😢😢 Comment from : MANAVTA - Mankind is God kind! |
