Thank you for sharing that and I appreciate how candid you were I still go to AA but I understand how you feel - you make really good points and yes sheit does still happens in the fellowship that's why it was so good to hear you expressbrThanks again and may the force continue to be with you!
Comment from : @stanleylouis402

@KLHJ
Comparing other people's outsides to your insides is never a good idea I never got better listening to what I wanted to hear Taking mind-altering pharmaceutical agents or cannabis is NOT Sobriety, it's being STONED! Good luck with getting sober!

@kaylameck1506
It disturbs me greatly when I hear of people not feeling welcome in AA AA saved my life 33 years ago by being a program of identification It was and is refreshing to know that many people think and have suffered from alcoholic thoughts and behaviors I try very hard to work and inclusive program My home group is an inclusive program, or it would not be my home group AA is the same as many groups in society whether it be the ladies auxiliary, a church group or the hospital board matters not All groups have people who think they and their ideas are the best I love the ladies I sponsor enough to let them go I want what is best for them and that might not be me I feel the same way about my patients If you are looking for imperfection, you will find it If you are looking for perfection in AA; you will never find it I would have never gotten sober by taking prescribed drugs My mom was from the generation of housewives being addicted to prescription drugs I would not go near a prescribed drug I would like to add that I have sat in many meetings and heard from some afterwards that they felt like they were being talked down at and that they would not be back I did not see that at all in that meeting I saw my fellow AA's sharing their experience, strength and hope and if you take that personal, so be it, I heard the same thing in my church, " I know he was preaching to me and I am not coming back to this church," The preacher was barely aware of who they were We do have folks that come to AA and just cause chaos and mayhem I believe this guy and some of the replies here were most likely of that description I also believe that this program is not for everyone A friend of mine is very happy with a group from his church The truth is that alcoholism kills people I will not put down another group because I would not want to give anyone the impression that AA is the only way It is not It is my way I love the fellowship that surrounds me w/ love and grace In 33 years I have been able to build a wonderful life and a successful career No one would have made that bet prior to my going to AA
Comment from : @kaylameck1506

@rickysimms51
Haven't been to a meeting in 4 years I'm so glad I walked from AA

@matthewgattone9893
There's a lot I love about aa and a lot that I think is really sick and twisted Sober 8 years still hit meetings but don't have a sponsor just accountable to a few guys Happy you're sober
Comment from : @matthewgattone9893

@Adrian-yi8fl
AA is a cult Their success rate is dismal AA is based on exactly 0 science whatsoever
Comment from : @Adrian-yi8fl

@Jenniferhowe36
The book suggests try controlled drinking if a person is unsure if they are alcoholic or not!
Comment from : @Jenniferhowe36

@keithhults8986
Program above personalities Some are sicker than others In my 35yrs, I don't push Program on people Everyone makes their own decisions The 12 steps are the simplest way to remain sober There is so much more enlightenment beyond AA I don't have a set meeting schedule If I don't leave the basics, I will never have to return to recover again
Comment from : @keithhults8986

@tubo1639
Great video, I agree 100
Comment from : @tubo1639

Men are fallible Book says work with others Doesn’t say give another alcoholic control of your life

@Csidimeback
13 steppersfrom my experiences in aayup it not only goes both ways with men going after the womenive see that women in their testimony of poor me all but openly give out their ph # looking for a contactgreat idea yup my life is screwed up and i need a sugar daddy whose both my friend and sponsorand lately ive noticed that this approach has spilled over into gays trolling the meetings looking for lovers
Comment from : @Csidimeback

@waynelscheurer5453
People have turned the twelve steps into a cult And it kills people

@DAClub-uf3br
I had 5 Sponsors in 2 years I didn't fire any of them They gave up on me

@user-yo4jp8rv6b
How the hell did you get prescription valium? Id kill to get that
Comment from : @user-yo4jp8rv6b

@bryanfish4495
Sadly, I mean this genuinely, this is another example that people can attend meetings, have a sponsor and still have no idea what the AA program is
Comment from : @bryanfish4495

@user-fe9qi1ic1r
I couldn't do what you did with grass, Valium etc Any drug - including booze - rapidly becomes all of them to excess Having said that, at the other end of the spectrum are rigid step types who seem to want to gain a still-point in all circumstances and that doesn't suit me either Keep on keeping on brother
Comment from : @user-fe9qi1ic1r

@backatya-df1rr

@elsasmum6005
HiI so agree with you so much when you say that the only requirement for membership,is a desire to stop drinking I have been sober for 39 years in AAI am happy and freeI did not do my recovery through the big book and had to tell a fellow AA recently, that came around the same week as me,that more or less said I was not sober,as I had not joined the big book thumpers group Definently a division hereWe are still friends but it saddens me that I am frowned upon by these AA policePeople who mind dont matter,and people who matter dont mindLoving kindness to me matters
Comment from : @elsasmum6005

@adamy3834
Good for you! No shame!
Comment from : @adamy3834

@davidevan4461
AA is great for quitting drinking, that’s why it’s called “Alcoholics Anonymous” not marijuana anonymous, not pill poppers anonymous
Comment from : @davidevan4461

@ShannonFreng
AA is mostly comprised of the unsophisticated, mentally ill lower classes, many of whom are sociopathic (or worse)
Comment from : @ShannonFreng

@sharroncocker401
Its surrender to AA and all its suggestions every day for the rest of your life a big commitment there are many types of abusers there it saves lifes and it can improve lifes but it can also destroy some peoples lifes
Comment from : @sharroncocker401

@pariacanyon
@7:40 I don't believe that story You can't deny anyone to attend AA meetings
Comment from : @pariacanyon

@faysmith7248
Bravo 👏❤
Comment from : @faysmith7248

@vladdyydaddy
This is funny because my sponsor dropped me and said I don't want to recover I love the steps and the psychic change it brought about in me I relapsed and now my sponsor is being a dick It's ok let people be we r alcoholic suffering from a spiritual malady Only a daily reprieve doesn't matter bout time God bless you all
Comment from : @vladdyydaddy

@TrishCanyon8
AA saved my life Actually it inspired me to save my life And, I have encountered many other things that have inspired me to change and develop myself I do notice if I don't share in a prescribed maner, the "correct" speech in AA, there will sometimes be someone who will share condescending, their disappointment with my share (I have 45 years sobriety) So I sometimes attend secular meetings and also some Lifespring Even in Lifespring I get dogmatic feedback They expect me to co-sign their ideology of "they/them" but will correct me immediately if I make a statement not "I" 😂😂😂😂 Apparently they are very careful to never let anyone's feelings get hurt😢 UNLESS you share outside of preferred statements/vernacular I swear they are as bad as AA😂😂😂
Comment from : @TrishCanyon8

@walterrau3724
I am an AA Member since 6 years and believe in the program But I stay away from meetings where the members are too much of Big Book Stumpers, the same I stay away from churches that are full of bible stumpers EVERYTHING taken to the extremes is bad!! We in AA are NOT professionals and Cannot override licensed professionals orders and prescriptions Good Luck!!
Comment from : @walterrau3724

@tim6385
AA is not in tune with today's world The people at meetings have taken over and they create new revisions of the same old program The program is diluted and cannot be saved Why do you think Bill W GAVE AA back to the members? Even he was done He also asked for a whiskey on his death bed but was refused fyi He did LSD also in his recovery--that's how he had his spiritual experience
Comment from : @tim6385

@suzannefernandez470
God bless you AA is not for everyone But unless you paid your sponsor you can not fire him! I got a laugh out of that tho
Comment from : @suzannefernandez470

@CharlesHippe
I went to AA the first day I quit drinking and it felt like a cult
Comment from : @CharlesHippe

@mikemontgomery1163
Your comments make it astonishingly clear you have never read or absorbed the Big book lol Good luck out there brother!
Comment from : @mikemontgomery1163

@Sanity333
I would assume getting high and being sober are opposites 🤔 so I could see how the “m&m” thing could be harmful if it was seen as an alternative to drinking alcohol to others attending AA meetings trying to be abstinent
Comment from : @Sanity333

@Chungustav
So you think you know better than AA huh? Good luck with that
Comment from : @Chungustav

@user-oq2lh5sx5s
Maybe you should try doing some cocaine or meth that’s not drinking either
Comment from : @user-oq2lh5sx5s

@user-oq2lh5sx5s
Just move on and smoke weed forget AA Sounds like you’re crying about AA 😢

@shawnmendrek3544
AA is going to save me I just need to pick right I do not think all problems will end up like yours I like how our meetings are around Jesus/God I am responsible for my sobriety, I need to listen to my elders in these meetings Thank you for your feedback
Comment from : @shawnmendrek3544

@jackieann5494
PITIFUL INGRATITUDE
Comment from : @jackieann5494

@alisonpatterson7539
Very healthy approach and I love this I’ve been ‘around’ shall we say AA for years and years but I’ve never totally become entrenched in it as I see the dogma and close mindedness and I flee!! Usually to another group and continue again I enjoy the fellowship, the community hate the dogma and lack of evolving I see in many ppl and lack of acknowledging there are many paths to recovery and one can use more than one set of tools in the toolbox!!
Comment from : @alisonpatterson7539

@mocean666
Maybe you should do some more research is literally in the big book lol
Comment from : @mocean666

@goldsmithstudent
The requirement for membership is all who suffer from alcoholism and I don't think u are
Comment from : @goldsmithstudent

@louiehannigan2538
AA did help me in terms of the illness being an addiction but it took 2 weeks in the psych ward with psychosis to finally make me stop for good, I got the wakeup call I needed, that alone keeps me sober
Comment from : @louiehannigan2538

@jimrose71
YOU LOST YOUR SOBRIETY WHEN YOU SMOKE POT, FOOL
Comment from : @jimrose71

@gabygabriel6016
Thanks for sharing this experience The thing with people in AA - if you tell them that you are not feeling happy, they’ll tell you immediately that its your “fault” for not doing the program enough according to them brbrAA is not the only solution, there are many options to recover It is perfectly fine to listen to your initiative instead of blindly trust these unqualified individuals in mental issues brbrI appreciate AA as a program, but it is not for everyone
Comment from : @gabygabriel6016

@nickpn23
Basically, it comes down to 'You disagree with me - how arrogant and sick of you'
Comment from : @nickpn23

@nickpn23
Does the big book even mention sponsors?
Comment from : @nickpn23

@TonyRome402
I got sober in AA 8 years ago and left 6 years ago The group promised me I wouldn't stay sober a month without AA That was 6 years ago and I am still sober and plan to be for the rest of my life AA is really good when you are in alot of pain The fellowship is the foundation of the program What doesn't work is the cult doctrine that has not changed changed In 85 years, the shaming, the judging, and hypocrisy I still recommend AA to anyone who wants to get sober; but I had to leave in order to stay sober
Comment from : @TonyRome402

@fittyleben7571
Your sponsor just shows you how to work the steps - they’re not your advisor, they’re not above you, they’re just another dude And as far as your Rx issue goes, AA has no opinion on outside issues brbrI don’t like AA jargon but stick with the winners
Comment from : @fittyleben7571

@egoebb
AA has not changed since the 1930s it's the only area of Psychiatry or medicine that has not changed since the 1930s - You have not tryed SMART Recovery
Comment from : @egoebb

@mikemontgomery1163
Sounds like you need to read 60 through 63, maybe a few times An inflated ego is a killer of man as well
Comment from : @mikemontgomery1163

@karinread5490
AMEN! Thank you!
Comment from : @karinread5490

@oven3515
Yeah, there's weirdos in every group of people basically Doesnt mean all AA is like that Theres entirely different fellowships that meet in the same building at different times The program and meetings are separate, though Just because you go to meetings doesn't mean you're working the aa program and vice versa The reason he said do more research is at one point you asked this man for help and it was agreed upon that you would go to any length to stay sober
Comment from : @oven3515

@ToddAndelin
I think some people are so big on the one way AA street is because it worked for them and now they want it to work for youbrso its their good intentions, which are commendable brHope everyone can stay sober whatever pathway they choose and what works for them brbrfor me working out childhood experiences and exercising self compassion is what im working on right now, and even though i have taken some breaks from AA, it was AA that was the catalyst and honesty forum which has led me to having the thought freedom to explore paths outside AA
Comment from : @ToddAndelin

@alreadytakento74
Treatment centers have infiltrated AA There is a pamphlet on Sponsorship, they are to take you thru the 12 steps & that's it
Comment from : @alreadytakento74

@kazkazimierz1742
I was 13 stepped by my sponsor's former girlfriend
Comment from : @kazkazimierz1742

@kazkazimierz1742
BB thumpers are sometimes referred to as the AA Taliban in my area
Comment from : @kazkazimierz1742

@kazkazimierz1742
I had a great sponsor Unfortunately he killed himself a couple of decades ago I still miss him
Comment from : @kazkazimierz1742

@doublequin
They lose it over pot whilst pouring copious amounts of coffee and huffing down cigs
Comment from : @doublequin

@kathleendinsmore7588
It's interesting to note how Big Book thumping sponsors fail to recognize there's no mention of sponsorship in the basic text
Comment from : @kathleendinsmore7588

@Chris-lz1fs
I parted company with AA for similar reasons after 10 or so years It's like a lot of things really, has it's good points and bad points, the dark and the light but at the end of the day, as they say in the rooms, 'the door swings both ways, take what you want & leave the rest' For me, I'm better because of it but now I'm better without it
Comment from : @Chris-lz1fs

@frankmccann29
I've seen group where certain people would give people money to get drunk Piss on people like who you're talking about The term is rigid and inflexible; the program helped me get my degree, and this is Schizophrenia I AM on the medical marijuana maintenance program and a disabled veteran 12 steps and book okay Back stabbing gossipers suck
Comment from : @frankmccann29

@visam28
I didn't resonate with AA at all A lot of them like to control people If you don't listen to your sponsor 💯 no matter how ridiculous it is A lot of these people have no business helping others
Comment from : @visam28

@anthonywhitney2374
So many different groups people and meetings in AA if you’re not comfortable with something move on till you find somewhere you are comfortable
Comment from : @anthonywhitney2374

@pauleckard319
It’s common for a Sponsor to tell a Sponsee, if the sponsee isnt convinced they are an alcoholic, to go out and try controlled drinking Not every person that comes to AA is an alcoholic and that’s a good way to tell You obviously didn’t need AA to stay sober so he was right? Why are you complaining?
Comment from : @pauleckard319

@dynamitecity9667
The sponsor I had would speak about other members behind their back and tell me who to keep away from, while at the same time would talk to them Early in my recovery he would still take me to wet places to have a coffee rather than an actual coffee shop/cafe
Comment from : @dynamitecity9667

@murphmurph2124
Nobody needs that garbage, the only thing that works is not drinking
Comment from : @murphmurph2124

@velveetaslingshot
AA would be awesome if it wasnt for the narcissist assholes that ruin it by turning it into a cult In other words you are only "sober" if you do it exactly their way and stick to their little circle of robots
Comment from : @velveetaslingshot

@realitybeneathveils5687
Why are there cuts every few seconds?
Comment from : @realitybeneathveils5687

@gabrielra5302
You my friend are on POINT!!!! We definitely know much more now about spirituality,the brain, consciousness etc etcNot a good fit for me😇🤔 Awesome growth and awareness brother, thanks for sharing!!!
Comment from : @gabrielra5302

@GradKat
There’s no proof AA has saved so many lives, as they don’t keep any records The constant references to religion really put me off, as I’m an atheist I attended many meetings, but was eventually obliged to admit that the programme just doesn’t work for me
Comment from : @GradKat

@dianemorris5816
I understand what you are saying I would of been dead tho if it wasn't for Alcoholics Anonymous I have never heard about "Christ" in meetings It isn't for everyone
Comment from : @dianemorris5816

@J-D248
Im with you The problem people have with AA is the people The program itself is very effective I've known some AA police and they give the program and name I've learned to use the program as a general guideline for life and its made a huge difference
Comment from : @J-D248

@KennyC72
Kenny C,brPurist Big Book Thumper here!brAlthough I did not agree with everything in your piece, I do agree and identify with most of it I have come along way as a sponsor, and as a Sponsee through the school of hard knocks, and I am a daily member of an AA group and my mind My relationships in my life is great today as a result It sounds like you are doing well on your path my friend and thank you for this video I thoroughly enjoyed it! brStrength love and prayers, my brother!
Comment from : @KennyC72

@haydengrady2467
AA is not for everyone but it’s a suggested program of recovery not a program of suggestions Abstinence is what is asked I have fired sponsees for balking on the work for too long Anyone is welcome, not everyone is willing to do the work and that’s ok
Comment from : @haydengrady2467

@margsme6718
I don’t tolerate the lack of anonymity and gossip at certain meetings It’s worth it to shop around and be vulnerable if you trust the group
Comment from : @margsme6718

@captainofmysoul6162
I really enjoy you and Chris Scott I was always interested also in the biochemical component and what happens in the brain I never bought into putting a label on oneself for the rest of your life How limiting
Comment from : @captainofmysoul6162

@rodb66
I never agreed with the AA mantra of once an alcoholic They seem to be too extreme and obsessed with alcohol It's great that it helps some people but those people are bound by AA's religion
Comment from : @rodb66

@garbagebinny6938
I loved your story, thank you
Comment from : @garbagebinny6938

@lisam768
I did AA 30 years ago You said it was a Christ consiencness (sp?) program; I wanted to share a Psalm that resonated with me with my recovery and was told by the group I could not share anything that wasn't big book related Bye Bye AA!
