As a 58 year old Aspergarian, I would like to respectfully suggest a video on the experience of autism among the elderly Almost all of the focus is on children But coping skills I developed in adolescence are now failing me

If you want to speak to people with ASD You should organize your office a little more, Very distracting

I am not sure if is Autims or ADHD But I do have the OCD ! Although when I was sad I had a mess in my apartment that is why I am not sure which one Also I don’t like to speak in front of a lot of people but I can make videos 😅 so I don’t know I hate certain sounds but love music I don’t know but I know something is going on I always knew I was different And yes a lot of people my age seemed dumb I am always thinking how I can make more money or learn more and more things I hate to waste my time in regular activities that people would enjoy

As a child no kids ever had autism Everyone knew everyone in the neighborhood All the kids knew all the other kids, and their were lots and lots of kids outside and everyone knew of all the siblings Very, very, very few kids were ‘mentally retarded’ (term used loosely at that time!) So what the heck happened? What is it that is causing all these kids to be diagnosed with Autism? What is the cause of Autism?

Currently when I hear “high functioning autism” I just feel pure rage Like they know anything about how is to live in my skin I’m semi nonverbal and even when I force myself to speak it sounds like gibberish and I never can express myself by talking, I really struggle with sensory overload like almost everything can cause meltdown, mental and physical pain, sounds (using loops earplugs + headphones on ears every day), lights sunglasses every day but nothing can help with flickering lights, skin is painful, shower is painful (both sound and feeling), but staying dirty and sticky even worse, wind on my ears painful, hair touching my skin painful Living in a constant burnout and meltdowns Not understanding society and neurotypicals at all But yeah sure I’m high functioning because I gave from myself more than I can bear and thinking every day that life is just one miserable suffering and to … yup great I really don’t know what to do anymore, meds don’t help, I mean abify helped with sensory but the feeling was so bad that I could only lay down in embryo pose
Comment from : Layla Tow

PVW
Having to live in a world full of judgemental people and expectations and lack of understanding makes it hard

Voltaradragoness Edits(FatesVoiceVA)
The lack of being able to detect sarcasm and jokes makes so much sense to me (i have ASD) as when i was in school, i would always take so much offense and immediately assume that any joke at my expense was an attack which didn't make me super popular as you can imagine xD
Comment from : Voltaradragoness Edits(FatesVoiceVA)

Quite simple We have already recognosised who we are and deal with it for social interactions Can take a long while, especially with kid of two almost certanly autistic adultsShe is mostly fine and doing well at school even with friends etc Will try and help her with social schizzle more

I'm currently in this research phase where I'm spending weeks plowing through video after video, article after article on and on I have to say when I come across a video where the person is just talking in a calm manner it really helps So many of these videos have horrible music playing over it or swooping camera effects or loud voices I dunno maybe I am on the spectrum
Comment from : Ridimix

〖 Macrooniix 〗
I honestly don’t know what to think right now After putting in a bit research and finding out what autistic actually means (after my mom mentioned it a few times bc of a tv show we were watching) I feel like I relate to a lot of these things But I don’t know if I’m just ‘faking’ to feel special Things like TikTok and instagram have so many kids faking things or trying to be quirky Pointing out small things that probably most people did and calling it a disorder And I just don’t know what parts are real and what is fakebrbrIt’s hard to separate things and I don’t know if the parts and things I myself relate to are fake If I am delusional and trying to be special myself I’m still young and in no way do I know how this works, I am not an expert And it’s hard to know or understand To see the difference in people faking and people actually spreading information I don’t want to tell my parents either, since (once again) I don’t want to come off as a ‘wannabe’ I really don’t know what to do, so I just keep watching more videos and confusing myself even more brbrI know this video has been made YEARS ago, but does anyone maybe have any advice or suggestions?
Comment from : 〖 Macrooniix 〗

I really tried to watch your video for more than 3 minutes, but couldn't It's so boring and cluttered with irrelevant reference Get straight to the point!
Comment from : Thomas

Charlie Kopp
3 minutes in and I already resonate with EVERY SINGLE POINT that she's making Sadly, I don't feel comfortable enough with my parents to talk about it and possibly go to a psychiatrist(doctor?) don't know what they're called Also kinda scared that it may just be me either looking for attention subconsciously or a false "internet diagnosis"
Comment from : Charlie Kopp

Stephan von Wolf
I would like to thank you for your video however as it really Shores up my argument that Asperger's does not belong lumped in with ASD And I can assure you I'm not the only one of us that holds that position or viewpoint As far as us needing counseling, perhaps? But we aren't the ones out there causing the wars and destroying the planet are we with greed and Corruption and lack of foresight? That's all on the neurotypical mind 100 But I do believe that anyone and everyone can benefit from some form of therapy or another, self-improvement and efforts thereof are always a good thing All of us have room to grow But please don't put the entire weight of it on our shoulders when the neurotypicals are the ones that caused the major problems in this world, while the high-functioning autistics and people with Asperger's come up with the solutions to almost every major need or problem of consequence

I had an autistic awakening yesterday, and today I watched your video and it was just lightbulb after lightbulb of years of wondering what I was doing and what it all meant I'd researched having autism before as a possibility but I didn't take it very seriously, as I thought a lot of it was just the "OCD" I'd been diagnosed with as a kid (probably just autism now that I look back) I haven't gotten any kind of diagnosis and am still in the early stages of research and self-discovery, but thank you thank you thank you for this video and aiding my journey

Thomas Warnders
everything you say is without exaggerating, the truth You say that high functioning autism isn't a diagnosis but in the Netherlands (where i live) we have a cut-off score, that means that if the comuputer (the system that makes the diagnosis) i am not autistic, but the whole psych team (also people that do not treat me) wil see my file and would determineif i am autistic or not Because my social skills the computer will say that i am a normal person but the the team says i am definitley autistic You can say that i have a diagnosis of high functioning autism

Ryan Weaver
This is really well done, there are many very professional people in the world who identify with the concept of high functioning autism I, personally, have a giftedness and experience a good deal of empathy and connections It can be exhausting at times, but not because it is hard for me to limit or experience; it's more about making large amounts of information more usable and accessible brbrIt differs from autism, but I can see how there would be confusion It's actually kind of weird for me to be so "streetable" and also gifted And, sometimes, high functioning autism folks may feel that same way sometimes WE are all people ya'll neurodiverse and imperfect and somehow beautiful brbrCaring helps some folks are so unbelievably heroic by living lives of caring and good work it's something to think about
Comment from : Ryan Weaver

kettch777
I wish more people understood that "high functioning" does NOT mean "not disabled" I am high functioning but I just can't manage to hold a job or take care of myself like I'd like I get overwhelmed very easily, and now I have PTSD from trying to work and fit in for almost 2 decades without even realizing I was autistic Now it just feels likelike my brain was being overclocked for years and burned itself up It takes so much energy to do anything anymore I just don't know how to cope It's hard to describe and even harder to get help since I can't really describe it well

In my personal oppinion APA did a very bad desition to include Asperger in the Autistic spectrum If before it was hard to detect undiagnossed adults now with this is even harder and it leave them by their own More difficult to know what is what they have and struggle internally with their mental issues The phrase "But you don't look autistic" is now what those undiagnostic ppl often hear

Comment from : JOHN SCHIRLOFF

Bl00ster
There's no such thing as "high functioning" autism and functioning labels are used to deny support for those labeled "high functioning," while those labeled "low functioning" are denied autonomybrbrAutistic people are often labeled as "high functioning" just because they aren't fully non-verbalbrThe term "high functioning" isn't even a clinical term, and isn't used in diagnosis And in fact, what used to be commonly thought of as "high functioning autism," Asperger's Syndrome, has been removed from the DSM and instead is now combined with autism to become part of "Autism Spectrum Disorder" Specifically, doctors determined that Asperger's wasn't distinct enough from the rest of autism in order to be considered a separate disorder (Also, Hans Asperger was a Nazi who sent many autistic people to be systematically murdered during the Holocaust He'd weed out the disabled folks who weren't useful to the Nazis and sent them to be killed, while those who could be used were allowed to live Another example of how functioning labels are bad)brbrWe're all a mish-mash of various traits, strengths, and weaknesses There's no straight line going from "high" to "low" I was always called "high functioning" as a child and a teenager, but the label has never served me well I would have panic attacks, hide under tables (EVEN AT AGE 17!!!), would have days where I had meltdown after meltdown brEven today, at 32 years old, sometimes I function pretty well, while other days (which are more frequent than I wish) I can't leave the house, have constant shutdowns, and become fully mute

I have ADHD, I suspect I have autism but, I am not sure if I have it because I don’t necessarily have a difficult time picking up on other people’s signs while socializing, but it can feel awkward But I also feel like everyone stares at me and judges how I look in big gatherings I’ll also feel very depleted after socializing, not because I have a hard time socializing, but I suppress my opinions, and I also want to make sure everyone feels that we are all having a good time, for example I laugh when I don’t feel like it Does anyone know if this could jsut be my ADHD, or if I could have autism as well

What has ability to be highly social, but the next day, or day prior, all of it drops, what is extremely rational, selfish, even ego centric, yet the next day, or day prior, its more emotional, no critical thought, etc? What is smart and stupid at the same time? What is a motivated person one day, and another no motivation at all, no strength, to the point person doesn't even wanna shower or eat What is a person that wants to be alone in the dark confines of their room, yet wants to see and experience a world?

I'm not diagnosed but I can already tell you autism is bs I used to have a friend who was autistic and all I did was treat them like they're special and they loved it Now it's possible I'll get diagnosed for autism just because I voted for Donald Trump and have religious beliefs that are traditionally Catholic Think you know everything about autism? Think again The Devil really loves treating our natural emotional field as a commodity rather than sacred and those of opposed are being treated like a pos for what we can't control always gets thrown out due to a lack of understanding of the supernatural God gets the final amen

Is there something LIKE autism that has the awkwardness in socializing but not a fear of it, you just dont read people well and say things that come across differently than you mean them to? I'm far from intellectually challenged but the worst part of every job I have ever had is dealing with people That being said, i am naturally an extrovert, even though I have become withdrawn But i have no problem talking to a stranger or on stage in front of lots of people, as long as it goes well I do tend to "lose it" over little things that are not the way they are suppose to be but that has gotten better since i found an anxiety pill that works I did have a very abusive childhood, so maybe it's just all that?? Thanks

I have manic-depression/bipolar, mood/anxiety disorder, OCD, C-PTSD, and have tested positive for High Functioning Autism There is a link also between ADHD with Autism AND BIPOLAR disorders People with manic-depression also have some form of ADHD, but because the symptoms are so similar, it is hard to determine the severity of ADHD Learnning all of this about myself has been a true eye opener, and has been helping me get a better grasp on why I do the things I do Thanks for your video 👍

Schlock Meister
Sooo much co-morbitity my head feels like a mish-mash of 5-10 personality disorders, yet the only official one given was schizotypal PD I'm probably being called anti-social and/or a lazy bum (I can't work anymore because I'm all over the place, very impulsive, get bored fast and I'm 50+ of age) by people who don't know what they're talking about (and sadly, most don't) but I chalk this up to fear of rejection That's why I find social interaction boring, mentally exhausting, a huge waste of time and pretty useless because I know it'll end with yet another rejection anywaybrI can't even imagine how it'd be like NOT to be rejected, and I'm not fishing for sympathy eitherbrOk, I guess I'd better sub and bell Thanks for the video! 👍
Comment from : Schlock Meister

S Fritz
The term "high functioning autism" is ableist and should be replaced by high masking Also, autism isn't mild or severe it just affects people differently
Comment from : S Fritz

CrazyBee
I was diagnosed originally when I was7, but my mother forgot about it till I was in my late 20's I have learned to mask most of my struggles I can understand obvious sarcasm and most jokes I do depend on tone of voice, facial expressions and words to match Its so frustrating when so much of life is being done online these days Text messages and emails are the worst because I can't see and hear the words as well Thank you for posting this video to help explain ASD better than I can Now I can just send this to people who don't understand me

They convinced us that we were autistic! Everyone has autism today It is normal to be more shy, more introverted, and slower in speaking and socializing Don't believe everything they convince you! Iggy Shuler
the only "miracle" aba works is making autistic children perform the way neurotypicals want them to many autistic people who have experienced this type of therapy have come forward as adults saying that this therapy was far more traumatic than helpful instead of being patient-led and allowing autistic children to find ways to support sensory issues, it rewards them when they ignore mental and physical pain in order to perform tasks in the way neurotypicals expect them to I URGE parents to look into the writing that autistic people have done on this subject before considering ABA for their child
Comment from : Iggy Shuler

I bet a lot of people don’t know they are on the spectrum The gov doesn’t want us to know who really is on it Bc we might be shocked and question why
